The company i am about to mention many shall still remember for their awesome games that changed the world of RTS gaming forever.

Sadly the studio died some years ago when EA bought it up but if it was still the same team as then sitting there now they would of be able to make something super sick. EA sucks for buying them out.

If you are a true fan you know what studio i'm talking about.

Indeed it's Westwood, the maker or C&C, Red alert 1+2 (yuri's revenge) Renegade the Awesome FPS where you suddenly were in the RTS!

Bethesda- The Elder Scrolls all the great gameplay translated into a MMO with skill based leveling system, crafting system, and player housing, and non combat activities please :)

Portal being only with some level of innovativeness behind it, but by mechanics it's not really any more special than any other physics or puzzle game, and it has very, very little to do with MMORPG's.  First Half-Life was pretty cool some years ago, but if you compare it to today's games, it's nothing special. They would also like to add all kinds of fun microtransactions through Steam, most likely. I tried TF2, but became bored after few days, as it's like WoWization of an online shooter. I mean, I sort of understand if you'd be little interested what they could come up with, but why exactly them? I couldn't right now think of worse company for that purpose.

Personally I find it difficult to name any studio, it's usually the indie studios I've never heard of or haven't made any game with the same group people before, that interest me most. I suppose Obsidsian Entertainment (Black Isle people in the house? bunch of RPG's with multiplayer) have potential. TaleWords (Mount & Blade) could be potential. As well as Piranha Bytes (Gothic, Risen). I don't know who and when have left these studios and when new blood have been taken in. So impossible to say how they would do, especially when difference between a single player RPG and a MMORPG is huge and it requires people with certain skills to develop.

I also secretly wish Rockstar made a MMORPG's out of their GTA franchise, which isn't completely impossible idea. GTA's are bit like gangster RPG's with huge open worlds and above average story. I believe IV has multiplayer too? I don't think money would be problem for them either. I could imagine they would hire Mythic or something to help with the MMORPG side of things, not that I agree with that!

I think people also don't realize that the only thing Valve has actually done is HL and HL2. CS was a mod done by players, TF was a mod done by players copying a mod done for Quake. Portal was done by someone else who used Valve to publish it. The zombie one was worked on by a group who licensed the valve engine and worked on it for years, I had been following it for a long time waiting. Near the end they hooked up with Valve to help get it finished and out the door.

Most of the games people think Valve is awesome for, they had nothing to do with.

That I did not know. I thought at least Portal would be their own work. Well, it only strengthens my point, to the extent, that it's pointless to even mention such obvious thing... As game developer, Valve has completely lost my respect, all they have is HL with it's sequels and blind fans and lots of mods made by other people.

2K Games (Borderlands) already have a level-based shooter with millions (or was it billions?) of possible weapons playable with 2-4 people online. An ambitous game designer sure could make something bigger out of it.

And of course the already mentioned Rockstar, Bethesda etc where you already have some open worlds in single player mode.

I would also like to play more round-based strategy games on a bigger scale - King´s Bounty, Civ and such. But from what I read Heroes of Might&Magic Online doesn´t get much love.

Easy question. Katauri interactive. It is small russian gamedev company that made Space Rangers and new King's Bounty series. Those games are amazing and I'm happy to know those guys are working on some kind of MMO atm.

I really like to see good MMORPG or MMORTS based on Civilization 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and also Empire Earth. Could be a whole lot of changes but the original idea behind those games is worth thinking of them in MMO context.
