There are tons of people in the game. They really reinvigorated the game with the ftp opening and the well designed item shop business. This game is worth a sub more now than before it was ftp.
I'll be sticking with the game throughout the heavy release season of 2011. Looks like they are really following through nicely with the lore.

How's the lag in LOTRO nowadays? And I'm not talking about non-lag situations. I'm talking 20v20 in the Moors and/or a Raid encounter with lots of flowery stuff floating around the room and a bunch of comrades with you duking it out with the mobs. Turbine's engine has been severely lag-prone since way back to AC2.
I played LotRO on the European servers, and as far as I know they are not ftp yet. Might look into making a warden on the US servers. Can't wait to ride into the plains of Rohan even if that won't happen until probably 2012. Battle of Helm's Deep should make for an awesome raid.

The game just went F2P and plenty of ppl are checking it out. Give them some time to get to level cap. It's true that plenty of new players are coming in, but it's also true that lots of vets had already left the game before the F2P thing.
Just keep in mind that Turbine turned DDO into F2P becouse it was failing. And Lotro has just gone through the same process.

Just? 2 1/2 months ago (in NA).
While it's certainly doing better than it was, it's pretty much like it was a year after launch (during the free trial phase).
You get a lot of people up to the 20s or so, then they sort of sputter out. Where I am now (I re-rolled when it went F2P) in the 40s, it's pretty thin.
The core issue with the game is a lack of content. They have not addressed it, nor do they seem to have any idea to address it.
They seem to realize it exists, they added the lame "Tasks" feature. But like past methods, their idea of making content is simply to make people grind against mobs over and over again. They tried it with Deeds, Reputation, LIs. Now they think making people grind is going to work with Tasks?
For crying out loud Turbine, make new quests and raids (and more skirmishes. Those are sort of fun, until you do the same ones over 100 times, because there haven't been any new ones in a year or more). Lots of quests. Fun raids. It's not that hard to do, it just takes some effort. Effort Turbine seems unwilling to invest into the game.
I had though perhaps they just didn't have the resources. I mean, Turbine was mostly a failure as a company, with AC1 being old, AC2 flopping, D&DO flopping, and LOTRO fizzling out after a strong start. But now they are owned by WB, resources shouldn't be a problem. But maybe that made it worse? They don't seem to be investing the F2P money back into the game, I guess WB and the Paizs are pocketing it, isntead of using it to hire people to actually make content.
I like to think that my server has a nice economy. So with people being able to buy stuff from the lotro store rather than the AH for crafting makes me worry how it will affect the economy. I dont think it will be too big of a deal given it cant be traded but we will have to see. Lots of people play the AH( I do) to make easy gold but if I can just drop 5 bucks a get the mats level up my skills I might do that. I myself will probably buy the crafting mats off of the store because I am a lifetimer and always have so much money to spend since I get it for free and it really adds up fast while I play.
I think Turbine has done a great job giving players so much for free. At first it seemed like they were gonna gouge players but it is a pretty good imo
Until high levels everthing a LM does is a trick with some herbs and powders. So they do not break the lore, Runemasters do with there spells which look like spells. The skeleton horse was not painted it has that design in its coat, it looks ridiculous for Lotro.
On the EU servers we had a healthy population, Lotro went hybrid to make money simple as that, we did not have dying servers.
The stated intention of the hybird model was to guide people into going P2P. So letting them level to top level etc is a joke.

haha stop spending so much time trolling forums and have some fun playing the game or do something else. You don't have a clue what you are talking about and after 2 years of constand whining it's just getting silly.
We just got a huge update, we are soon getting a small update and early next year we are getting a nother big update and later a full expansion. So what level are you now?
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Can't wait until Isengard next year! Wonder if there'll be a romp through Orthanc and how they'll play that. Also wondering if Fangorn Forest will be introduced
I love that I could log in and the game is packed, everyone seems happy that the November update is around the corner and everyone seems extremely excited about the Isengard announcement. Issue is when I come here everyone seems to have this negative agenda. I wonder why that is? All of a sudden lotro has hundreds of thousand more players so now everyone suddenly plays lotro and has a negative opinion on the game... Or maybe you guys are just threatened? Maybe this is just a case of forum warrioring? God forbid another game does well aye? Maybe just maybe your game isn't good enough so your afraid people will leave for This game? That's the only reason I can think of for the negativity. Honestly you guys sound like your on another planet or something, everyone and I mean everyone playing lotro is having a goodtime..
I tell you why it is: it is you, you are insecure, you are afraid. All you see is well meant critique and yet you feel endangered, you feel the need to be reassured you made the right decision with the game.
It is fine game. Some people are just not having fun. They like the IP, they like the production values, the engine runs smooth yet they are not having fun. They are trying to figure out why is that. You sit in corner repeating your mantra "everything is fine". Such therapy indeed helps but it does not provide answer.
Here, I have honest answer for your question. You see hostility where there is none, just doubt.
I have no issues with expansion. I am just puzzled why announce it so soon and why they do not announce smaller but more frequent updates that people expected and were hoping for and that make more sense from business perspective.
Grouping in this game is a chore. After trying out WoW's cross realm dungeon finder I can say that LOTRO would greatly benfit from the same type of cross realm dungeon finder system being that this game is 98% PVE.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Insecure about my decision? I drop hundreds if not a thousand dollars in gaming a month... Its a luxury i have being successful in my career. I didn't make the wrong choice, Lotro is only a video game. I enjoy it because its fucking awesome.
What im wondering is why every one of your lotro posts are negative? Maybe your the insecure one that thinks they made the wrong choice by leaving? or maybe your just an addict that hates the game and can't stop playing even though you no longer enjoy it?
Either way it seems you have the problem. Look how you nitpick... complaining about an expansion announcement for a xpac released next year lol. Like noone else has ever done that...

Just me being curious ... 1000$ a month?
How do you go about spending that amount of money on gaming in a single month?
Let see normally the wife won go completely bonkers if I keep it under 500. This month I picked up 12 360 games, three PC games off steam, four Wii games for the kids, two ps3 games and around 10 iPhone games. According to my statement I spent around 850 bucks in November. You don't want to know what my sub total will be for Dec & Jan combined considering I also dropped quite a sum of cash on a new alienware laptop for the wife.

He he, so the bulk goes to the family.
I allmost thought we had to invent a new "level" of harcore gamer for you

But it still is a lot when it's monthly.
Haha! Yep I'm a happily married father of four. All five of them are gamers. Gaming is an expensive hobby.
He means veterans are leaving. Judging by what Bree looks like is exactly the point. Thats a low level area. It means the game is flourishing with new players - ie. without many of the loyal customers who made the game even last this long.
Well, keep in mind that if one is higher lvl, there really isn't a reason to go to bree.
Other than wanting to go to bree.
I'm not sure if veteran players are leaving or not. If people remember, a lot of people took breaks during shadows of angmar. I know I did.
It's ok not to play these games as a 5 days a week.
I do know of a lot of veteran playes working on alts. I know I've been working on one. I don't do Legendary item grinds so there is no issue with getting burned out trying to get the perfect weapoin when it's really not needed.
Therefore, once one has exhausted the content that is in the game I can easily see them taking a break until something new and substantial comes down the pike.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
The game just went F2P and plenty of ppl are checking it out. Give them some time to get to level cap. It's true that plenty of new players are coming in, but it's also true that lots of vets had already left the game before the F2P thing.

Umm there is no good way to gauge the veteran popluation by looking at Bree, there are no superior crafting stations there that I'm aware of and obviously the quests are not high level either. Now if you said there's noone in the twenty first hall I might think the argument had merit to it.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Aaaaannnnd, this month's content is all froob BS. I told people when the game changed to F2P that this would cause the devs to focus new content on low levels and ignore high level long-term players. They told me I didnt know what I was talking about. Hmmmm. ~looks over November content update~ Guess I was right afterall. Shame really.
It's funny how some people look from their own perspective with little or no concern for the fact that there are actually other people that might not think the same way, or that situations may not be tailored to suit their every need. Turbine's primary playerbase (read: source of income) is new- and mid-range players. End-game types are not the main source of revenue for Turbine as those players would have subbed regardless of F2P or P2P. They are working to increase the value of their implementation of the LoTR IP through F2P. So sorry if they didn't call to ask you what you want in the game, and frankly, you don't have to play it. I say let Turbine explore better options for keeping the game financially solvent so all of us have something to play that doesn't require a monthly subscription. Monthly subs make me feel like I have to play so much per week/month to get my money's worth. F2P removes that element, and makes the game feel more like a game. Play when I want, how I want, and I can buy some stuff from the LoTRO Store when I wish.
I'm not flaming you dude, but it's kind of elitist to say that end game content is all that matters. There are quite a few subscribers in WoW for example, that never raid endgame content. They never work for gear sets for PvP, and never even get to max level. They play because its fun. That reason, and that reason alone is what keeps players playing. Not end game content . Fiscally, providing a better experience 'out of the box' if you will, is what draws new players in.
