Not really. There is no benefit to the player to be in a stress test. Actually, because it is a 'stress test' less people are going to want to log in than in other betas. However with a release date - new beta, headstart, release day, etc - there is an incentive for players to log in and you will have a massive spike of players that often cannot be predicted.

But now they are reactive.. And while I am sure most of you guys are mature enough to relax and wait for stability, for the ones that are freakin out talking about how "horrible" the experience is going for them etc.. Nothing new here, of course, but it is yet one more example of a game that does not work at its supposed launch.

(Well, pre-launch.. I guess what this actually is is a stress test).

No point logging in for a while; server cant cope with the load, it's clear.

    Update February 18

Things are settling down a bit. The main problem we're having is not the number of players online, but the number of players downloading. I was hoping that more players would have the game downloaded ready for this, but it appears that many players waited until now to start patching.

    Update February 18

Please bear with folks. We're having trouble handling so many logins and downloads at once.

Our bandwidth is limited until we can move to a new server location. As soon as I saw the recent influx of new players we put in an order to move to new servers, but unfortunately our hosts have not been able to move us yet. This will happen before the official launch.

Today's early start for pre-orders is not going well and I apologize. There's not much we can do at this very moment, just bear through it.

It would help for players to get in and set up their totems and come back when things settle down.

    Thanks for you patience!

    Update February 18

    Hello Xsyon Citizens!

    The Final Wipe is here!

A new launcher is out. The launcher has been improved for faster patching and now displays game information and updates.

The server and client have been patched out. We are working on setting up new servers that can handle additional bandwidth. Please be patient this week as we move to a new location.

Our current server location will undergo some maintenence this weekend between 10:00 PM Central US February 19 and 2:00 AM Central US February 20. I will announce when the servers are down for this.

    Features and Revisions

    - Special starter weapons are now available. These are bound to your character.

    - Guides have been equipped with a few new commands.

    Fixes

    - Graphics have been optmized in order to reduce overheating of graphics cards.

    - A few causes of client crashes have been tracked an fixed.

    - Additonal blocking has been implemented for terraforming into rock.

Here are our plans for the next few weeks:

    - Over the next few weeks we will focus on fixing and improving current game systems and review suggested changes.

    - On March 1st we will reset the creatures with all current creatures in game. Other changes will be patched out over the next few weeks as they become ready.

    - We are in the process of setting up new servers which should be ready by March 1st. This is an upgrade to our current servers to handle more traffic better. A trial server will be added as soon as possible.

    - We have a new and exprienced coder joining us who will focus on combat and AI improvements. I look forward to expanding the team!

    Enjoy!

Nevermind, someone already quoted and made the same response. Glad I decided to wait for the trial. ;)

Haha.. This is good news for me, i was sort of waiting on this games release to get an idea if it'll have population problems or not.. But i take it the population will be just fine.

Yeah population isn't a problem. The problem is that population decided to download the game at launch when it was available earlier.

The update was about 4 MB, but a lot of people uninstalled and downloads again which causes stress on servers.

Hopefully tomorrow it will be fine.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree.I think , though, the crowd that is focusing on Xsyon right now is a lot more forgiving of a situation like this than the mainstream MMO crowd. Whether that is good or bad is another story, but it indicates to me that if this is resolved quickly it would actually work out rather well in the end for them.

Just got booted again several minutes ago.

Even if you can get in when the servers are up, the game is pretty much unplayable right now.  One word: lag.  Not exactly just a normal lag, either.

As an example: if you hit scavenge, your character will likely just stand there.  You'll think that perhaps the command is broken, until a minute (or two, or three) later your character will start to scavenge.  Had the same problem trying to go in and out of combat mode.

Chat is even worse.  I typed several things in chat.  It was going on 8 minutes later when the servers crashed, and what I had typed into chat still hadn't shown up.

Essentially, this lag permeates every area of the game, to an extent that it's almost impossible to really accomplish anything right now.

Got killed by an unseen character as well.

I'd recommend trying again later, or after they've upgraded their servers.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I'm thinking things will get a bit better once everyone has the game downloaded.

on launcher day, top priority, in players eyes is usually server performance -- the crowds these days are very critical, getting bad rap because of poor servers, is not the kind of wrap a dev wants.

Well lets see here shall we, we have a very small Indy developer making an original sandbox MMO and doing absolutely NO advertising on it AT ALL. And then for some wierd reason the players go out and about and start using word of mouth to tell everyone how cool the game is. And in less than 2 weeks thier pre-orders sky-rocket. They see the issue and immediately put in an order to upgrade thier facilities and back end to handle the unexpected load. The order just hasn't completed yet.

Looks like to me they did everything you thought they should have. So what exactly are you flappin your lips about here again? You play this great game do ya?? Or are you just here to troll the boards and make your voice known for the good of all mankind?

Aion on offcial launch day had massive que ues becuase they were not  able to handle the player load.Blizzard claimed so many logging into Cataclysym crashed their forum servers[i have a different opinion, but no matter].These are two giant developers with all their staff ran into recent problems, this seems to be common place nowadays,so i guess an Indie developer deserves some slack,at least until offical launch. It sounds like they are being honest and scrambling to fix it in time.

Managed to create char, get in and get totem down!!! Suckers :)

The trick is wait for it to crash and spam log in before everyone else, only be quick because you have about 30 econds before it's unplayable again. Think I'll give it a rest there and come back tomorrow. Just as well you can't die from starvation and thirst because when this lag catches up the server population would drop dead.

Edit: one more thing I've been in loads of releases headstarts, release days, massive corporations, indies, large pops and smaller communities and tbh there's no correlation half the time. Some do it well, some don't, as for the comment earlier about DF and MO being better what a load of shit. DF you couldn't even buy for a week and MO had half the stuff missing such as npc, gear ooh and ground.

Oh and the graphics look better on log in than they did, in fact it looks like a couple of different things, not sure that's the brightest idea tbh on the headstart day but I can understand wanting to give peeps a little surprise. It's weird though, other players for me arn't lagging but their and my own actions are - massively - for about 5 minutes.

You can get stuff done though you just have to imagine your using the mars buggy, each action takes about 7 minutes to go through :) I had trouble doing other stuff outside the game after a while, "put diner in microwave, wait 5 minutes, take dinner out of microwave, wait 5 mintues, oooh burning it hurts... wait, put down, wait 5 minutes, eat". Need to learn to seperate fiction from the real world.

what makes this release a bit more of a pain is the totem factor. Sure in DF people wanted to get cities as soon as possible but it wasnt something that needed to be done within the first hour of going live. So our tribe would have all just logged out and play another day but we wanted to get our totem set up.

I hope they dont have to do a wipe like he is hinting at

So I got a totem down a couple of hours ago then logged.  Came back and my tribe has a different name and people in it.  Is this a normal bug atm?  Should I abandone the tribe and make a new one?

my guess is someone named it once, then when it didnt seem to work renamed it so the long lag left it with the last name.

i hope the logs show good and a wipe is not needed, we have put in a lot of very slow lag work (when i say 'a lot' mean placing a totem...lol

So many thoughts on what's happening, and I'm not playing yet - just watching from the sidelines:

    1. Yes, they're a small indie, but that's not really an acceptable excuse.  When you don't adequately test your system you have only yourself to blame.  Additionally, server issues were the excuse for much of the delays in the past year and they've already moved/upgraded at least once before.  So what's going on?

    2. The demand is apparently far greater than what was anticipated, which is a great thing!  Kudos to them for making a game players are clamoring to get into.  I hope it turns out well for both Notorious and the players.  I'm anxious to try it myself, probably in a few weeks after the initial influx calms down, servers are stabilized, etc..

    3. Everybody who's played up until now has been a paid beta tester in a low population beta. This is really the first time the current servers are seeing a significant hit, but the good news is it's not the official launch yet!  This is the early access phase and, while it's not ideal, it gives them a couple of weeks to still get ready for the official launch.  I only hope the excitement continues and they player interest continues to spike after the official launch. Those players who pre-ordered the game from an unknown company with limited funds and a questionable first initial pre-order offereing did so on faith.  So, keep the faith, be patient and let Notorious figure things out in the next couple of weeks.  If they get it together, awesome!  If not, the nerdrage will be epic.

Already in the process of being solved. Once the recent large influx of players came in a request was placed for a more powerful server. It will be inplace by the official launch on March 1st.

    Update February 18

First of all we've set up a torrent where you can download and share the large data files:

    http://www.xsyon.com/install/Xsyon.torrent

If you've already downloaded the large files and want to help seed the torrent, you can start the torrent download, then copy files from the Xsyon/Data directory to your Download/Data directory where the torrent stores downloaded files.

If you want to use this as an alternate download, once you've downloaded the data files, copy them to your Xsyon/Data directory and then run the launcher.

Although the server has settled down a bit, it is possible that we'll have to wipe again. Players have been reporting many issues with tribes not forming correctly. We will examine the logs and database tonight to see exactly what the problem is and we will decide the next step after we completely understand the problem.

Thanks again for your patience. We are doing our best to deal with these problems.

my 2 cents, they have some issues, but the head developer has already replied a dozen times today. Communicating the issues and how they are fixing them. I cannot count how many games I have played where people are stuck in limbo just begging for days on developers to comment on what is going on. Atleast they are stating what is up and to me that is a big plus and a good sign.

  • hcoelhohcoelho Member UncommonPosts: 529

even with a small dev team, one of them gave me a reply on their forums.... i was asking about the "incorrect launcher version" error. Quite impressive IMO.

The game server's are exploding for sure, but if you played the beta you'll know that when they got it fixed, the game i'll be 100% playable, and not broken like DF and MO were on released.

I was trying to play just now but its almost impossible due the lag. I hope they fix this soon.

I hope your right.  So far the games more or less unplayable.  Hope they tweak the servers asap.  Also LOTS of talk about corrupt data and character wipes. Not a big deal since i was only able to fish 2 fish, and was waiting for the eat action to happen, since every action is on some 5min delay.

Pretty rough, have yet to see a "mob" or another player so its just fishing for now....perhaps when i log in tomorrow ill be able to accomplish something.

Oh well i knew the game was a mess before i logged in, hopefully they straighten it all out by morning.

the bottom line basically becomes this.

Wait for them to fix things and be paitent or play RIFT for the next 4 years.

speaking for me I will wait and be paitent (actually I will go back to darkfall for the day but I was making a point)

DF had limited release of clients for a reason. The reason is what you experience right now with Xsyon. Darkfall devs made selling of copies not available to protect the experience of those who managed to buy a copy. They could have also sell everyone a copy and let all run into a unplayable server.

My question hasn't been answered here as well. Why all of you can buy copies of Xsyon right now ? Shouldn't just those get into game that preordered months ago ?
