progen sentinal in Earth and Beyond was my first mmo and i miss it very much those were real mmo games back then you didnt have to pay $50.00 for a freakin exspansion omg!!!!!P
Everquest. I was running around the noobie zone and I saw someone with a cracked staff. I thought it was the coolest thing I ever seen and had to have one. That cracked staff hooked my attention for 11 years.
My first love was CoH, and I had quite a few level 50s. Then the ED nerf came out (around issue 7) and I left it for greener pastures.
After flitting about looking for my next addiction for six months or so, my wife recommended Eve Online as she liked the looks of it. That's probably the worst mistake she's ever made, because I was immediately addicted, and have been since then. There's just no deeper or broader game in the MMO multiverse.

DAoC and Anarchy Online. DAoC is a classic, and I wish a mmorpg dev would make a game simmlar to it, without making it be bascally a wow clone. You could say Warhammer online is like DAoC except Warhammers pve totally blew, and DAoC was a strong pve game.
Anarchy online to this day is the only decent sci-fi mmorpg in my eyes, honestly all the game needs is a major graphics overhaul and I bet they could remarket it, alot of my friends are intersted in AO but their main reason for not trying it is its outdated graphics. The textures and Models need a overhaul, Monster models are fine I guess, but player models need to look better. The textures in general need to be redone from the ground up least for player chars, npc's and monsters. Buildings and world objects are fine as is.
There is a offical DAoC classic server, that has all expansions except trials of atlantis on it. it leaves ToA out since it bascally broke pvp, and enough players were vocal about it to make mythic make a server that has all other expansions, but left Trials of Atlantis out.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words." -Poster on mmorpg.com
Rift: World of Warcraft clone #9321 Nothing special to see here move along.
First MMO I loved was UO, but to keep in track with the article, the MMO I fell in love with was DAoC and the only one that kept me playing every single day (except holidays and when net was down) for about 6-7 years.
Played for 5 years from when it was released in beta. Loved it played a barb warrior went to all the zones and dungeons and managed to get level 65 & epic swords. So many nights camping a certain flying griffon in Iceclad ocean for some coldain quest, then some noob runs by and kills it after camping for like 65hrs. I quit shortly after that.
Me too. Didn't pick another up again until City of Heroes unless you count other online games back in the day like SubSpace, Tribes, Counter-Strike. I don't really consider those three MMORPG's, just MMO's.
Edit - I still play SubSpace to this day occasionally, it is available for free under the name Continuum if anyone is interested.
My first multi player was a MUD called Gemstone3 that I played for many years. I have never really had more fun since, it was the closest to D&D I've ever gotten online. I could never go back to text scrolling now though.
So, my first and greatest graphical online game was DAOC, and I've never had one match it since. Other games have done certain aspects better, and nearly all newer games have better graphics.
I probably wouldn't like a game that was exactly like DAOC these days, I don't have that kind of time anymore. New games irritate me for the most part though. I never really liked WoW, even though I beta tested it and played at launch. Even then the only reason I played was because my entire guild left DAOC for it and I had no team to play with anymore.
WoW is a good game, and did a lot of things right, but something just....disconnected with WoW, and has been broken ever since. With all the improvements in UI, connectivity, and general game play...something was lost in all the stream lining.
Outside of that I think I'm just a jaded old gamer.

I played Gemstone 3 on GEnie way back when it cost $6 an hour to be online. OUCH, I maxed out a credit card playing this one. It was expensive but lots of fun!
My MMO experience started with Runescape. I quickly gave up on that and played on a private server UO. That got me clear off consoles.
Next were the various free East World games (Legend of Ares, Knights Online, Rappelz which I really liked). Then I decided I had enough money to try a game and went with Lord of the Rings.
I loved it. I still remember running through Ered Luin with my first character. First time I played a ranged (archer/ranger) type of character as well. I must have like 200 screen shots for it. Played it for two years and then moved on.
Edit: My geography sucks, I said west world and meant East world
My first MMO love was Anarchy Online. It was not my very first MMO which was EQ1(yeah I am that old, sigh). But as far as the first MMO I really really enjoyed and was drawn into it was Anarchy Online and I even revisisted the game this past year and had all kinds of smiles and nostalgia
SWG. I still miss it to this day and would still be playing it now if SOE didn't destroy it with the NGE.
Since then I have gone from MMO to MMO never finding anything satisfying and am waiting patiently for the release of SW:ToR. Even though I miss the game I find I miss the community just as much. The SWG community was the best and I doubt I will ever come across a community in a game even remotely as good.

Warhammer Online (yes yes i know..)
AC was my first. Still think of my visits to the Obsidian plains, the massive buff sessions for the events, and death leaps off the waterfall. <sigh>
Eve Online. And then Lord of the Rings Online, because it was my first fantasy-based MMO love.

DAOC!
I leveled so many toons to 50... at least 15 of them! One of each classes in alb, then a few mid and hib.
Didn't loved that much all MLs and artefacts, so I templated only a few of them to go RvR.
Now I'm searching for another one, but can't find a good one that match my taste.

EQ2 for me, I have been with it since 2004, and havent been able to stop

Atlantica Online, since was balanced and Item Mall not ruin all. By the way in alot of games Item Malls ruins spirit of game. I hate this .

My first mmo was PSO, although I know many don't consider that an actual mmo lol.
My first actual mmo love was Anarchy Online, and I still have yet to play another game that can hold a candle to AO
SWG. It didn't start out as love. In fact it made me quite mad and frustrated at times. But couldn't stop playing it.

First love was UO, Second love was SWG, third and current love that has gave me the feeling those two games once did... XSYON.
I played UO and loved it. But I honestly think I'll have to answer EQ2 when it comes to "falling in love" with a game.
