Which one of the following IPs/genres would you most want to see an MMORPG developed off of? Please note that I didn't put in "Other" because if I did, I am reasonably sure everyone would pick it .
You're still free to mention another IP/genre in a post if you want of course.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Comments
Firefly would be awesome. While space mmos have obviously been done before, a space western fusion has not.
How cool would it be to one moment be flying an awesome space craft then the next be a horse riding gun slinger?
Pokémon would be singularly the most successful IP for a AAA MMO.
LOL, I think you're actually right!
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
WaterWorld
Blade Runner - Philip k Dick Universe.
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
I voted A song of Ice and Fire, game of thrones ftw!
What IP id love more then anything tough is Mount and Blade!! That would be the greatest MMO ever made.
TES and Marvel Universe is also high on my list.
Currently Playing Path of Exile
I would nothing more than to explore the world of Westoros!
A Song of Ice and Fire!
None of the above.
I would rather see MMOs created from a developer's original IP so that they are not limited by having a 3rd party dictate what they can and can't do with the game/IP.
I agree with this.
But since the question is what IP would you pick, I would say: Futurama.

I also agree, but I will throw Judge Dredd in the mix...
The Dark Tower.....

Vampires, wizards, cowboys, cyborgs, demons, mutants, ghosts, psychics, and more... All set in a multi-time and multi-dementional world.
BUCK ROGERS!!!
Seriously though...Robotech. It could have character based content, vehicle content, mech content and I could just about stand it if it had a somewhat anime art style.
Would really love to see Shadowrun done as an MMO.
I chose Firefly, though I think Age of Wonders or Civilization would be better.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
The more I think about it the more awesome a Dark Tower RPG sounds....
Sci-Fi Western Fantasy Horror rolled into a crazy multi-verse where anything is possible!
Maybe I should mail some people.
The best IP is an original IP. That way the devs aren't constrained by any rules that are specific to the IP. It also forces the game to stand on its own features and mechanics without having the crutch of an already established fanbase.
i'm thinking Underworld ...Vamps vs Werewolves straight up pvp.....
so much could be done with this.
played M59,UO,lineage,EQ,Daoc,Entropia,SWG,Horizons,Lineage2.EQ2,Vangaurd,Irth online, DarkFall,Star Trek
and many others that did not make the cut or i just plain forgetting about.
I think we have a winer.
Shadowrun
I think a SteamPunk or CyberPunk saidbox would be sweet

"In related news, Foxs plans for the development of the previously announced Firefly MMOG have been delayed, but Fox looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Multiverse on this endeavor."
That was in 2008. Fox destroys Firefly and the Firefly MMO. Fair and balanced. :P
In other related news...
the real answer is Shadowrun.
Ok, here's my take in no particular order of preference:
- Mass Effect
- Blade Runner
- Malazan Chronicles of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
- American McGee's Alice/Alice: Madness Returns
- Otherlands by Tad Williams
- Resident Evil/Left4Dead/any zombie apocalypse related IP
All under the assumption that when done, they're done right of course, not some bleak shadow of what it could be made into

Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I went with firefly. Think EVE meets Red Dead Redemption, how awesome would that be? I would just be worried that they would set it in the war period and it would turn into another faction vs faction wow clone with firefly skinned on top.
If I had to choose one off the list though, I would go with a kingdom hearts mmo. I will admit that the first was the most surprising game I've ever played and was the most addictive non-mmo I've ever played. Square Enix and Disney would have to work together again and that combination can turn out to be either amazingly awesome or amazingly bad. Plenty of money and artistic ability though.
edit: I'd rather have a new console version in the near future first though. I hate when great games get too heavy in handhelds.
I voted for Forgotten Realms, mainly because I bought the original box set for p&p D&D years ago, but I, too would love to explore Westeros. Been waiting for GRRM to put out his newest tale in Ice and Fire for 3ish years now, and I didn't really think too highly of the last - too many characters I didn't care much about...Plus, with winter coming, there would be an awful lot of snowy zones...
I voted Cyberpunk, but to narrow it down I liked Shadowrun best for Cyberpunk (please ignore Microsofts interpretations in the FPS they made). It would have no fixed classes but obviously clear archetype paths to follow like in the PnP version which allowed jack of all trades characters in most aspects although using cyberware & trying to use magic/physical adept skills on one character didnt tend to work out too well and trying to be jack of all trades soon maxed ou all you available cyberware.
So its either Shadowrun or Mount & Blade "Online" for next big MMORPG for me.
Hell Yes!!!
ShadowRun would be great too!
Malazan Book of the Fallen indeed! Guaranteed sub from yours truly. Bridgeburners!
