As long as it has nothing to do with Dark Messiah. Bring back the old days of M&M VII. Pokemon, Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Zelda could all work, given that they're done in a non-kiddy way.
No Dark Messiah? You don't want armies of players in a kicking match?
Kicking foes through barrels and over ledges endlessly sounds like the ultimate grind.
No need for spells, healers, weapons, or the holy trinity. Unless you mean kicking, stomping and the Mystic Boot.
I think a Mass Effect MMO would be one of the biggest selling of all time. It is one of the strongest IPs I have ever seen for a game and Bioware are damn good story writers.
I chose cyberpunk from the above options with an emphasis on Shadowrun as DJJazzy, among others, posted. However, I would really like to see something based on Neil Gaiman's work, in particular, the Sandman or Books of Magic IPs.
Vampires, wizards, cowboys, cyborgs, demons, mutants, ghosts, psychics, and more... All set in a multi-time and multi-dementional world.
I hope they never even make a movie from this series, much less a videogame. Please don't encourage anyone to ruin the 2nd best series (after Dune) written in the last 50 years
I hope you meant Cyberpunk as in Cyberpunk 2020 from R. Talsorian Games, because that's what I meant to vote for? If, on the other hand, you meant the non-translated, non-smooth garbage of William Gibson, then no. I swear I sat to read Neuromancer and got three pages before I put the book down; it's like that poem about the mumrath's outgrabe and borogroves and crap. That sort of thing has never sparked my imagination, and likely never will.
Now, on with my message... I noticed there weren't many, if any, role-playing games on your poll. I do not count ANYTHING played on a gaming console, and many things NOT done by Bethesda Softworks or Bioware, as a role-playing game; those other games simply are not, no matter how hard the developers try. Dice and paper, pen and paper, talking-back-and-forth-across-a-game-table, tabletop games are role-playing games, and here's what's missing...

BattleTech/MechWarrior (FASA Corp, though I'm not sure the tech or programming is available, just now)

Rifts (Palladium Books, not those thieves at Trion Worlds)

Earthdawn (FASA Corporation, though the market is flooded with fantasy games, just now)

Torg: Role-Playing the Possibility Wars (the defunct WEG, or up and coming Ulisses Spiele in Germany)

Dark Conspiracy (GDW, horror by alien invaders)

Shadowrun (FASA Corp, though I'm not a huge fan of the DnP game, myself, it has some very cool concepts)

Millennium's End (Chameleon Eclectic, much like The Agency was going to be, only team-required, normally, and an excellent game system)
Movies, television, console titles, and many novels are too limiting for a decent MMORPG. I played LotRO for a LONG time, and they had a beautiful world going there, but then I got to level 46 with two characters and, after all the hard work to reach that level with each of those characters, with all of the abilities I'd built, and even following various guides on the internet so my character was spec'd right, etc., I started having problems with getting killed very often. The game has PvE balance issues, to say the least. Unfortunately, it pissed me off enough to stop playing; I don't have time for that sort of aggravation.

JJ Abrams bought the rights to this from King about a 2 years ago. Ron Howard has agreed to direct the first to films and the first season of the TV series.
What about a planet of the apes mmo, There is a new planet of the apss coming out. Also a Back to the future or Stargate MMO would be cool, but unlikely.
I'd say there is no "Best IP" for an MMORPG. I'd say that it's more of what the developers can actually do as far as gameplay and how they take advantage of what the IP is about. Also for me, how much they respect a particularly well known and loved IP is important.
Star Wars and Star Trek are two of the most widely known, powerful IPs out there. Rich, rich background and settings to choose from. Yet they've been a**-raped repeatedly with gaming in general, and not just in MMORPGs.
Warcraft was a pre-existing IP before WoW came out, and we all saw how poorly that did .
I don't think that the IP has much to do with whether the MMORPG will be good or suck, it just gives it thematic flavor. For example, Blizzard could have easily made a sandbox MMORPG based on the Warcraft IP if they chose to do so.

You know a Firefly based MMORPG would be nice and I would love to play one, then again I would also love to see a well made Harry Potter MMORPG. In fact I think a Harry Potter based MMORPG would give WoW a run for its money. ^_^

There was no option for... Thundarr the Barbarian... seriously?
I mean its Sci-Fi, fantasy, post apoc and "future earth" all in one!
Plus the fact Thundarr and his "group" were even wandering around in Wizardry *.*
DUNE.
