If this topic is what I think it is about, then I have to say that I'm very sorry, and I tend to agree with you fully, despite the fact that I'm not one of your type, I feel fully that societal taboos in this area are full on pathetic and incredibly stupid.

The only explination I can give is this:

Bioware is based in my home nation of Canada. They gave us games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, etc. etc.

SWTOR is being developed by Bioware Ausrtin, a studio founded by Canadian Bioware, but based in the United States. A huge contributer to the game is Lucas Arts, another company based in the United States. Bioware Austin is owned by EA, another American company.

Certian things are legal in my home nation of Canada, certian acts that are illegal for huge portions of the United States. In Canada, there is absolutely no opposition to these things being legal. Even our right-wing, socially conservative government has no opposition to these things being legal. The United States is filled with people who oppose certain things being legal. Even the vaunted Obama and his political party are opposed to these these things being legal.

I think this is a cultural thing. The sad, pathetic, backwards American culture, believing only in freedom for some, not for all, permeating this game and influencing it for the worst.

    Why can't I romance a droid?

Apparently video games have had it wrong from the very start.  Mario wasnt supposed to rescue the Princess in the castle!  Thats rediculous!  It should have been Luigi, or maybe a nice italian named Fredrico, who Mario then passionately made out with upon game completion.

Honestly, from the online petitions going to have Seseme Street announce that Bert and Earnie are gay, to this.  Im just getting really tired of the gay agenda.

Han fell in love with Leia?  What bullox!  We all know Han and Luke had a thing going on!  I mean, thats just SOOO Star Wars!  Excuse me while I barf in a bucket.

I am sorry if I offended you. It was not my intention. And I do not know what these things you say nor do I support them.

Just, when all get a cake, I ask for a tiny piece for me too. That is all. I don't want to take anything from you away. ^^

Homosexuality doesnt really offend me.  Ive worked with gay people before and had no problem.  The guy talked about his boyfriend and I didnt give a darn.  Whatever.

But this?  Anyways, Im not sure its possible.  But couldnt players just make a female toon, make her flat chested, give her masculine features, and a male name, and be happy with that?  Use some imagination people.  Then you can have the same sex relationship thing.  Sort off.

Plus?  There's going to be gay guilds.  There always are.  If the game doesnt give you the romance options you exactly want, there's got to be creative work arounds that might make you or anyone wanting it happy.

Seriously give Bioware some credit.  They have done same sex relationships in Dragon Age.  Im not sure about Mass Effect.  But they dared enough to at least do it.  Thats saying something too.  Its just not going to happen in this game.  You can pick out what?  Like a thousand games that have romance in the story but dont offer same sex themed romances?   Its not like this is the first time its happened.

Maybe the writers just didnt feel like including it.  I know I wouldnt.  Or more than likely they have to clear a lot of what they're doing with Lucas or whatever.

Its not homosexuality that offends me.  Its the issue of including it in Swtor.  Its an actual ISSUE.  Good God people.  Really?   I mean if they did it, I'd shrug and say whatever.  They havent so I shrug and say whatever.  But the fact that people are actually hurt, angry, or dissapointed just sort of gets me.  Why?   Work around it.  You can and will.  I promise.  It'll all work out.  Really.

  • IsawaIsawa Member UncommonPosts: 1,051

Well they will have species w/ other species relationships going on in Star Wars, I for some reason think that is good enough. Anyways, I always figured players who where interested in online relationships, marriage, and all that pursued relationships with other players in most MMOs, so isn't this a viable option here?

Lots of seriousness applied to a game...

This is like demanding a same sex romance version is made of every film that features a hetro storyline. It is really that stupid and over sensitive to me.

Look, some stories feature same sex relationships, some don't. People need to get over that and accept not every story has to reflect every human sexual preference to not be 'discriminating'.

The OP is waaaaay too emo about this and, tbh, a thicker skin needs to be grown.

Far as the OP, there's nothing stopping you from romancing other players. ;)

To my knowledge, George Lucas has never made anything Star Wars that had any sort of same gender romance to it.

IF there is to be anything like this in SW:TOR, George Lucas will end up making that call, don't kid yourself. This would be a big move for the Star Wars universe and anyone who follows Star Wars knows GL keeps a firm grip on his money machine.

He personally financed all 3 the prequals for a reason, his way, all the way.

Anywho, point is, I think being upset over this is silly as it'll be GL's call, he owns Star Wars. You, me, BioWare and EA don't.

  • TJixleeTJixlee Member Posts: 159

agreed. but it's a topic that cant be discussed about one game either.... maybe you should start naming games that do have same sex romances. i sure know WoW does not... could flame that and not SWTOR right?

So I miss it. It kinda hit me because of that. I know many don't care about romance stories, they want to shoot stuff only, and that's ok. I too shoot stuff. But not only.

I just hoped here would be a haven, a place to experience something that I rarely have the chance to. And they DID bring it in so many of their games, so I was expecting it. I guess most people did.

But...its NOT an issue.  Once again....

Here are your instructions for allowing same sex relationships in Swtor.  Are we paying attention?  Here we go:

    Select female at character creation.

Modify female to be flat chested, with masculine features.   This includes shoulders, chest, face, hair, etc if possible.

Give female a male name.  Harry.  George.  Guadalupe.  Senore Tight Pants.  Whatever.

Thats it.  You now have a male the game thinks is a female.  Thus allowing same sex relationships of a sort.

Look, I dont know why Bioware didnt include it this time.  There's probably reasons.  Good ones.  I dont know what they are.  But its probably going to be possible to work around it.  Just as Ive said.

And yes you make a fine point.  But again, I just dont think this is an issue.  With some creativity I think it can be worked around.   No problem.

IMO most people in MMO are mostly friendly. It is only few who are not so friendly. Sometimes it does not seem so to us, because they are so vocal, but most people I met in game were ok people.

Just enjoy the stories and don't let the fact that they might not reflect your personal life choices or preferences tear you up so much.

I'm sorry, but you come off as a pretty callous person who only cares about your own enjoyment. You come off as one of those self-entitled people who doesn't care about what happens in the world as long as it caters to you.

You obviously don't understand how people feel considering your utter and completely trashy dismissal of legitimate concerns. Really, comparing this to wanting romance with a star? How much more callous can you get?

By the way, I'm not at all gay, but I would have loved the option to pursue such a relationship in SWTOR. I am pretty miffed at Bioware for them removing that option for me.

This must be the very first time I've seen anyone complain that there are LESS features in an MMO than there could be. And the sad thing is that this opinion is based on bigotry, not the lore or mechanics of the game.

No, it is absolutely NOTHING alike, In a film there is one option: the story that has been written and set on the screen. In a video game there are CHOICES. The point of the romance system is that I can choose one of my companion characters and initiate a romance. I have CHOICES here, I can CHOOSE to not pursue a relationship, I can CHOOSE which companion I choose a relationship with.

You are falsely comparing two mediums that are capable of entirely different things and have entirely different expectations. Even then, if I really wanted to I could rewrite Hamlet to have Hamlet pursue Horatio instead of Ophelia and then people would have the option to watch my gay Hamlet or the regular Hamlet.

You're totally right about that.  But there are supposed to be tons of stories in this game.  A few couldn't be permitted that appealed to a not inconsiderable cross section of the player base?  And not to make light of it, but I tend to create female toons in most of the games I play so I would rather have the option to go down a romance path with a female interest rather than a male.  It wouldn't turn me green if I had to, but I would be much more disconnected from the story at that point, just like the OP tried to explain.

It's all academic to me anyway since I won't be playing.  But I'm interested in the debate about it.
