I never used fast travel in Oblivion, yet I was never as immersed into that as I was into Morrowind.

I felt it had more to do with art style, and most especially their leveled lists.

Cyrodiil I found to be very basic fantasy. Bunch of forests with forest-wildlife (wolves, bears, deer, etc.). Sure, I found pretty areas to look at, but never anything really that unique. Vvardenfell's, on the other hand, was a lot less generic. You had the giant mushrooms for trees in some regions, that led into the dark swampy areas. Then you follow a path out that may lead to a plains-area, or you'd accidentally wander off into the Red Mountain and got blasted by the storms. Not to mention the sight of a Draedic or Dremora ruin looming in on you through the "fog." It was just so much more interesting.

There were a lot of times in Morrowind where it became painfully obvious that I went into the wrong area, usually because something would charge at me or hit me and I'd see my health drop very fast, which would cause my character to collapse/drop. Luckily, I always followed the advice of the npcs and carried some intervention scrolls on me, so these panicy moments weren't necessarily game over, but they were a blast (really got that andrenaline running :P). In Oblivion, the leveled lists always made sure anything I encountered was easily defeatable. So I could go anywhere knowing I'd be able to kill anything that came up. This got... very boring, as there weren't any times I was surprised. And of course, everyone knows of the issues their item leveled lists caused...

Oblivion is still a good game to play through, but I'm glad Todd's been saying about how they took the time to do some more things and encounters by hand, like Morrowind, instead of just relying 100% on leveled lists (which are now Fallout 3 style - which I still didn't like that much, but definitely a great improvement!).

Does anyone know if this game is going to be as in depth as morrowind was? Oblivion was really good too I really enjoyed playing that game, but Morrowind was the best because like other posters said it had more too do with exploring hidden things, and sometimes things would get kinda scary.

One thing I was obsessed with wanting too do in Morrowind and Oblivion was to be a Necromancer and actually be able to loot a dead body and bring it back to life as a zombie pet. It said that in one of the necromancy tomes in morrowind how you could summon the dead, but you could never actually do it because it was outlawed or something.

If skyrim allows us to summon zombies or be necromancers that would make me rate this game one of the best of 2011

What are your thoughts on it?

It's one of my frickin' 5 preorders coming up.

So many games, great GAMES, and now I'm an adult with no time.

But yeah, my PC is going to be running hot for a few days.

I think I'm going to go an unusual route and burn through the story mode as quickly as possible on this one. Why? Despite logging probably hundreds of hours on Oblivion, I'm only going to get it beat within the next couple of days.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I'm probably picking this one up.  Pretty much have to.  Open world games fascinate me.

  • zimboy69zimboy69 Member UncommonPosts: 395

i plan to get it  it

    BUT

not for 2-3 weeks after release  as i know there are so many good games not all will sell well and  withing a month  skyrim will be £15 or less  in some online retailors

also i can get  everyone else to play test the game for me and ill have a 1000's of reviews on youtube and  the web  so I can see if  its worth it

it could also have a patch by then as well

so not only will i get the game i will get it for half the price and know i will know  if its good before  i buy it

so i dont mind if you all go and buy it  on day one , I will sit back and wait and see

I'll get it when the price goes down a bit because it'll go hand in hand with the usual mods necessary to "fix" every TES game.

    Day one purchase for me.

I'll put my normal 150-200 hours into the vanilla version then come back and play the game six months later with mods.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

  • WarmakerWarmaker Member UncommonPosts: 2,246

Yeah, it will take a little while for the mods to really come together.  Sure, there's going to be tweaks, fan-made fixes, small things here and there immediately after release.  But the big stuff will take a bit of time.

Then  again, since I still frequent the FO3, FONV, Oblivion mod scene, some of the big name modders are already gathering into teams for something big.

My most hyped game. Playing Nehrim atm (which is far better then Oblivion), hopefully it will keep me busy till Skyrim release

  • just2duhjust2duh Member Posts: 1,290

I don't know.. I've absolutely loved the elder scrolls games and have no doubt I will love skyrim too, but for some reason my excitment level is pretty low now.

It might just have to do with beating myself over the head with it for the past year, watching/reading/keeping up to date with all the news and announcements.

Because of that it's kind of lost all element of surprize and mystery at this point, pretty much know exactly what to expect, I almost feel like i've played it already lol.

So I think i'd have no trouble putting it off for a little while, may just put it up in the air for an xmas gift option lol, and if someone buys it for me cool, if not no biggie. The invetible GOTY edition the next year or so with all DLC is something to consider too..

I haven't been keeping up with the latest on this game. I expect good things from it, though. Plan to get it, not exactly sure when. I rather pay $40 than anything more, so probably wait until retailers sell it for that price.

Looking forward to this game, and hoping it matches the hype. Bethesda has alot to lose if this game doesn't pan out. I expect them to meet the expectations though, and succeed. I'm hoping the game is solid right out the gate, with minimal patching.

The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.

I'm buying it, I cleared my gaming schedule for the end of the year into next. Not doing  Star Wars. Not doing any other nonsense until I rule the Dark Brotherhood again.

Yeah, I might wit a little too unless I get bored. I have no hurry to start with a single player game.

I thought Oblivion could have been better though, it was pretty but missed a bit of the soul of the older games, Daggerfall is still my favorite.

Still, I am loking forward to it. :)

Well Oblivion is guaranteed W/O expansions 130+ hrs.... I'm still working on it to fully complete with expansions to this day. It is very fun and can potentially be endless so to speak. I would suggest you should probably best to rent it first and see how you like it. In terms it's kind of like Fallout just not futuristic. It's like playing a medieval game that is your life, basically. I do hope you enjoy it as it is one of the best series of games ever released IMO.

Dark Brotherhood rocked in Oblivion.  In my opinion the best of the guild alignments.

I'd like to ask those of you who have played both Morrowind and Nehrim: When it comes to immersion, can Nehrim compete with Morrowind or maybe even better? Vanilla Oblivion IMO can't.

It really is. I am replaying it again with a sandbox appraoch, without doing any of the main quest. Just wandering around picking up random quests from townspeople I meet and exploring dungeons I find. No fast traveling or anything.

I am having alot of fun this time, more so than the other playthroughs. I will probably get around to going to Kvatch to meet Martin eventually, but not until I have explored every nook and cranny first.

Not missing this one and probably picking Morrowind or Daggerfall back out of the old games part of my desk somewhere this week.

That's how I play it for the most part. Oh, I do the main quest (eventually) and the smaller quests I find here and there but I pretty much wander.

My housemate, when he was playing games, only did a small part of the main quest and that was it for him. The rest of his time was completely wandering around. He found more caves and ruins than I ever did. He did do the Daedra quests and small quests he found but essentially dropped martin off at cloud ruler temple and that was it. He never touched the guild quests.

I'm still actively playing Oblivion and I have Morrowind on my computer for small forays into that world. I avidly played it for 2 years so I've just been getting into it again.

It's amazing how more expansive and "epic" its world feels than Oblivion's.

The DB quest where you go to a house and participate in this "murder mystery" event was the best quest I have ever played in any MMORPG :).

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

ooo I didn't know that. That sounds great, Sovrath YaY!

It's so nice to hear that because that is always by biggest fear. That they will take things out instead of adding more to the menu, y'know?
