I don't know how many servers there'll be but I hope there are more EU English speaking servers than there were in the weekend beta.
Sure, the UK has less population than Germany and France, but there are way more English speakers in Europe than German and French speakers. This was obvious during that beta weekend with the over subbed English servers, so I'm cautiously hopeful.
whaaaaaaaat?!
i lived in belgium for years....there were WAY more french and german speakers than english speakers. infact, almost everyone in my village spoke both french and german, whereas maybe 10-15% spoke even broken english. for the most part, i found that to be the case in france, germany, and spain as well. although.... europeans have a bad habit of pretending they dont speak english when they find out you are an american though... so my experience could have been slightly scewed.
Hehe, might be. But English is in fact the most shared language in the EU amongst our generation. All the small countries like my own (Holland) wont get their own servers (thank god for that!): we all roll on English ones. So yeah; you need much more of those because people from all over Europe will play on them. Not just people from the British Isles.
It's a shame because they will have to open more servers than they might actually need.
Though it's possible the game will keep growing it's also possible that there are people who might not like it over time or who just bought it to "try it out".
They leave and suddenly the number of servers will have to be revisted.

Isn't the answer inherently unpredictable without also speculating on sales totals?
Making a guess based upon a guess--can you see the two degrees of separation? Might as well pitch darts at a dartboard.
Oh, uh...hmm. They'd be foolish to buy too many, so....110-ish, if they can get them installed and updated in time.
I thought it'd be funny to revisit this thread at launch and compare the numbers mentioned with what they turned out to be
Also, I'm curious what the max capacity of the servers will be in supported player population per server and PCU (peak concurrent users), the best way to determine that is around launch time.
Although, it looks like it'll be hard to determine the number of players logged in on a server, the search tool in SWTOR is less convenient to do a headcount than it was in AoC or LotrO. Will have to see how that'll be.

The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Rift still has a decent amount of servers almost a year later. What makes you think that SWTOR will die that quickly compared to an ultra linear carbon copy game?
That said among other things, that an announcement regarding servers will be made sometime prior to the early launch to give players time to make plans.

Its all right Snoocky is trying to beat ShredderSE for most accurate guess. Shredder says 6..snoocky says 1. This is going to be tough competition.
How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?
ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian. Subs will be so low there is no need for more Snoocky-How many servers? The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.
I know guilds will have a thing next to name saying what server its been assigned to. Id guess 150 at launch will thye need all 150 hell yea.
This game will launch with at least 4 million players. When u keep in mind there are alot of people who never buy a game till launch day or later
I actually think over the first couple months the player base will grow as reviews come out and players buy after the read the many many positive reveiws taht get written.
Then after 3 months those taht have finished end game and only do one characcter they rush to the end will leave and playerbase will dorp some but not nearly as much as those that dont like this game like to assume .

And then there's the Scandinavians. I seem to have half of the population of Sweden on my friends list at any given time.
either way. I hope the servers are on the large side like Aion. Because the worlds are so big I dont want it to feel empty
During the stress test, they demonstrated the ability of the servers to automatically manage sharding when things get crowded. The Hero Engine could literally handle millions of players per server this way, though I highly doubt that they would do that.

Haha yeah that would be bad. But I do like the feeling of a galactic population included in the large maps.

I'm going to guess around 120. I believe that's how many they had for the big beta stress test, give or take.
