No, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot.  It is a silly place.

I think it was Maddens AoC review when I finally unplugged from the MMORPG.com matrix. Having said that, his coverage pales compared to the new incumbent. Pretty muc pure 'gush', sentiment lead pieces. Opinion pieces are fine but is just a little objectivity too much to ask? Just take a look at the DCUO coverage and how the sveral, obvious issues where simply over looked. There really is a place for a site/portal/social venue that offers 'serious' MMO reporting. Incidentally I think it is less about commercial gain and more down to the skills and experience of those at the helm. Maybe that is naieve or me.

All the archetypes are there with a different skin. So you are playing SWTOR? you are playing a fantasy MMO. It's well known SW is fantasy sci-fi anyway.

Err, yes, Star Wars is fantasy. More precisely its Space Opera, or SF fantasy.

However, your analogies are full of errors.

The Jedi is a class and not a race. Jedis appear in all kinds of races - and thus cannot be a race themselves. The closest analogon to Jedi in fantasy are probably the D&D Paladins.

Same for stormtroopers, which are simply generic soldiers. Nothing about them refers to anything specific orcish and they are in fact all human. Also, fantasy orcs are really known for anything than following orders and accepting humans as their superiors. Orcs are usually depicted as brutal and savage primitives who believe they own the world and all other races should be their slaves.

There are no "Cheewakas". You probably talk about Chewbacca. That is a specific guy, not a race. The guy is of the race of the Wookies, which most closely ressemble some variants of fantasy trolls (trolls vary drastically depending upon world setting).

Ewoks are not dwarves. They dont drink beer, they dont live in caves, they arent fat and sturdy, they dont use axes and heavy armor, and they dont speak with scottish accent either. Ewoks are most likely Halflings, but even that analogy is weak, as Halflings arent wild and dont have fur everywhere, just at their feet.

I dont know what you talk about when you talk about "those guys with the orange eyes", but meh.

The closest Star Wars has to elves is Twi'leks. Very human-like, but still prominently looking different, and prominently female themed.

The closest Star Wars has to orcs are the Gammoreans. Its pretty common to picture Orcs looking pig-like and with green skin, so the match is almost perfect. However, fantasy orcs can talk normally, cannot squeak like a pig, and are probably more intelligent than the Gammoreans.

You have to look at what is behind the surface, it's the archtypes, the fundamental essence. It's all there in one form or the other, becasue everything is draw from humans, ultimately.
