MMOs are too big for a single rating. You spend soooo much time with it, you really need to rate each major system. There will be parts of it that clearly exceed your expectations (and therefore deserve 10 or 11 or w/e), but there will be something you really like in MMO(x) that isn't there at launch, and you should be able to point that out without suggesting the game is below your expectations overall.

Well considering the article was about the potential for a perfect 10, they probably didn't mean "on release". I would give GW2 the odds of getting a high score at launch, but reaching its true potential in the months/years down the road. Maybe that's what the article writers were thinking too.
No game is perfect hence no game is 10/10 on the Jimmy562 scale. There are ALWAYS improvements.
There. Fixed it for ya'. Free of charge. I swear sometimes I would think nobody on this site has EVER read a single game review in their life. Plenty of 10 scores exist.

Yeah...review scored aren't strictly hierarchical. Just because you give someone a 10, does not mean there can never be a game better than that in the history of existence.
Most reviewers view a "10" to mean something like "outstanding," "revolutionary," "amazing." There are plenty of "10" games out there.
Giving a game a perfect score is cool and all but much like any review I dispute... you should actually spend a good portion of time in a game before "reviewing" it.
Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

It's not even a review...
It's just some dude saying that he thinks GW2 might get a perfect 10 and why.

Here, I'll make you feel better.
The article isn't a review. It isn't a preview. It's not a review of the beta, or the demo.
It's part of a 5 article series on the promising features of 5 upcoming big budget titles for 2012, with a sensationalist title to get more web traffic - from both people looking forward to any of those 5 games, or haters of any of those 5 games... or just those who are curious at such a bold statement.
No fanboiness involved, just cold calculating greed.
this all started with the removal of the decimal when rating games. either someone thought that was a good idea, lazy or both. when everyone give out 8s and 9s like candy, the only thing left is 10. **runs off to look for sites that uses 0-100 scales (i.e. or true decimal)**
Please stop this fanboy excitement. Nothing good can come out of it.
I myself am crazy fan of GW2
But will it be perfect ?
Probably not.
So keep the expectations real. And let them launch it allready
I agree. Personal preferences and all that.
Today's MMOs will find it hard to keep people occupied for longer durations. More games is only a good thing. This year is starting to look pretty good indeed.

Bah. Those same-minded people don't need a small number to basically say the same thing. They'll just give every new game 80s and 90s.
Sarcasm on. Average is the new below average and anything that scores 70 or lower is just not worth your time. Sarcasm off.

A perfect 10 on release doesn't exist for an MMO. Hype like this only fuels future backlash and is pointless.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
