The game revolves around finite content, it's natural for people to wonder. I mean, once you're done all of the investigation quests and all of the normal quests, what else is there to do?
This question is valid as well as nonsensical, because it applies to as good as all MMO's since EQ: cue EQ, 'if you've reached level cap, what else is there to do?', WoW, the same, 'if you've reached level cap and done your quests, what else is there to do?', LotrO, etc. Yet even despite that, there were a lot of people that played those games for years. Dungeons, PvP, raids, exploring things of the ingame world you haven't seen yet, creating different characters, etc. That's what can keep players entertained in an MMO they enjoy, if they didn't really enjoy an MMO, that won't be enough, just like it was with former MMO's and how it'll be with upcoming MMO's. Some stayed for years, some went.
Ok, regardless, it still doesn't answer the question. The way I see it, the industry brought it on themselves. When the focus switched from making worlds to making gated content, people realized that eventually they will run out of things to do. So it's only natural to wonder now.
You completely forget the human factor: according to your viewpoint, people'd never have played the MMO's of the past that many played for years, from EQ to WoW to LotrO etc, bc in your definition of content, theirs was finite: you reached level cap, done the quests, then what? In EQ, your choice was joining raids, creating alts, maybe some crafting and PvP on PvP servers. WoW added dungeons and battlegrounds, yet those are all features you seem to dismiss as 'finite' or trivial. Bottomline is simple, it was back then, it still is: if you (still) enjoy hanging out in the MMO of your choice, then those features that others might regard as finite or trivial, will provide entertainment enough next to hanging out with friends, to keep playing. This has been the case since EQ and remain so.
How does that explain how Funcom plans to deal with people finishing content and having nothing to do until the next patch?
Here's the thing... The game was released two days ago and you're already talking bout when players have nothing to do. So, you've effectively given funcom two days to add major content. Seems fair. The players or "content locust" you're referring to have nothing to do in any game. If you finish all the content in a week or so, you deserve to have nothing to do... Ya know, so the game matches your life. I would say we have to give them at least a month before you can bitch about content.

I like TSW more, but not really. GW2 as close to 3 times more content. it will face the same problem as other mmos of finite things to do 3 months down the line, but it will take longer than TSW.
lol, where is your source.
No numbers or source, sorry. Just looking at what i've seen. TSW as 8 areas while GW2 as 25. TSW's ones seem to have more content in each of them however, but all that much more. But anyway, Johnnymmo is just wrong. GW2 as 8 dungeons with different paths, personall stories, all the events, etc. Hell, GW2 as more BG's, and while WVW is a huge cop out with copy pasting maps, the Boarderlands and Eternal Battlegounds are enough to equal more than twice the size of Fusang.
Again, no accurate numbers, just going from what i've seen. Maybe not 3, but atleast twice as much, i'd say. Oh, and don't worry, i don't think GW2's content will last even that much, like all other mmos.
Yeah but GW2 content is mind numbing....literally. Some of those quest and storylines were written for my 10 year old.....GW2 is basically a childs game when it comes to PvE...The PvP is awesome though, not debating that.
I think TSW is sitting on content and well release it over the next few months. After that content updates will become less.
One problem with puzzles is once you know how to beat them, you can go through them pretty fast. Add to that a lack of replayability and you have a situation where players are going to be crying for something to do sooner rather than later. I doubt Funcon will be able to keep up with their more hardcore members, so in about four months or so they will start to release more grind elements.

Now if all the quests where puzzle quests then i would agree... but there are tons of other quests as well just like other MMORPGs..
So it has jsut as much replay value as any other MMORPG really..
Still like any other MMORPG funcom will need to keep releasing content updates and thats really the main issue with themepark MMORPGs.
Well, i have no idea how fast they can update, but being a sub game, i'd say that the best model would be a new dungeon, bg map, new quests in the older areas including new investigation missions, and possibly new lore pieces adn npc's, etc every moth. That might be good enough to get players to sub again, followed by new Warzones and/or pve areas to continue the story and other things like that barber shop every 2-3 months.
Of course, that's probably not going to happen, but, 1 advantage of not having alt replayability is that they can focus on making new stuff for 1 character instead of tons of stuff for all the different options. it's all in Funcom's hands. SWTOR as to update more story and branching paths ofr each class, while TSW is free to just keep going forward.
