Right now there are no animals in the game's world that can be used as mounts. That's just how it is. We can speculate about what ArenaNet can and cannot add all we want. The fact is that currently Tyria has no animals suitable for mount use.
Why 100 hats? Why not 1000? Hell, make it 1000000. All of those numbers are unrealistic and you know it.
I dont think 100 hats is unrealistic at all, I expect there will be more than 100 fluff items that a player can wear/buy in game. A hat is just a way of putting all of these weareables under one category, but I am pretty sure there are more than 100 fluff items counting multiples on the same category in game that they have spent time on and many more than they will spend time on.
If they are making a cosmetic only cash shop that is going to be a big chunk of their asset creation time.
At launch, it's unrealistic. After a few years of continuous development? Who knows.
ArenaNet has a cosmetic only cash shop in GW1 and they have about 10 costumes. They make most of their money from box sales, not the cash shop. They do this by releasing expansions much faster than a typical MMO.
What about in game I didnt mean cash shop only, but in game, can you get more than 100 items in total that are just for cosmetic purposes or are just a skin variation of the same item with the same function ( i.e. the water breather thingy ) ?
I honestly dont know which is why I ask, but from what I have seen there are lots of things you can get that either are just cosmetic or are just the same functionality on a different flavour ( i.e. the looks ), even things like dyes require dev time and the whole test suite just to add a different colour.
Okay, Raven, dude..we get it. You REALLY want a horsey. Fact is, right now they're not in game and I 'd wager that we WILL see them sooner over later just because of the money they'll make out of the cash shop. Now..at the risk of sounding like i'm making a terrible pun here.
Mounts in MMORPGs are traditionally the biggest "goofball" feature in said game.
Like the the Segways in SW:TOR
The two headed turtles in RIFT
The EVERYTHING in LOTRO
The EVERYTHING in WoW.
Age of Conan and probably... Fallen Earth... have the best mounts in any MMORPG (now that SWG is gone) and even still, they're just not... what they should.
A mount (assuming its an animal) should be a PET. IT should be something you care for and get to treat like its a part of you. Not... a "magic spell" that vanishes when you're not using it.
Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption horses are great. Anything short of that is a waste of time and just a massive embarrassment to even have in yoru game.
So my hope is GW2 never adds mounts. Unless their Skyrim or RDR's style.

Stop beating the dead horse okay?
Just discussing chillout, I thought that was the purpose of the forum. I actually never said I wanted a horse as well, but rather a mount. I think it was pretty civilized tbh, if someone makes an argument I dont agree with I tend to argue back as to why I dont think it applies to the situation, otherwise we may aswell shut down these forums

there are days I think that would be awesome. Then I remember how much fun I have on forum PVP here and change my mind. I get what you're saying and you're definitely entitled to your opinion, you've just sorta said the same basic comment again and again. Don't need to repeat if it still held true the first time, aye?

Right and that holds true in a perfect world, but when people keep quoting you and making the same argument again and again that is an indicator that the message you are trying to get accross is not clear or they misunderstood it so you need to rephrase it and make it clearer. Otherwise the discussion is moot, if we started discussing in two different languages we dont understand it wouldnt be much of a discussion.

It'd be almost as amusing tho. I'd say lets try but sadly I only know english. Just to pretend that I'm still on topic: I wouldn't hate a mount system done right. The idea of a skyrim style would be fun, something that could fight, panic, run and even die would be good in the setting imho.
