and this is why I wish the game used the sub model instead.

Check out the Rift forums where people have exploited several game systems to advance their 'raid toons'.  Not only weren't they banned, but Trion really hasn't fixed a few of the exploit flaws (like fishing).  Trion rarely does permabans because then they would lose the revenue.

I really wish Cryptic would pull out the banhammer with this.  There are still people walking around with the Ogre slayer title, AFK pvp leechers advertise in zone, not to mention the pirate boss exploit.  It really is discouraging that people care so little for the community and atmosphere of the game.

That would have totally killed Rift for me. Glad I never bothered to go all the way in that game.

Just because they exploit doesn't mean you lose, you'll just get the purples slower.

    Hypocrisy if you ask me.

Sounds like the words of an exploiter to me.

    Yup, no exploits :)

    Yup working as intended. http://sv.twitch.tv/boolawa/b/403076723

If You ask me, they should take down the servers right now, and take necessary action. With the amounts of exploits so far, I would really prefer a full character wipe after fixes. I am loosing faith fast... yesterday I had fun, today I logged in several times but I can't get myself to do anything.

Fix for AFK PvP in the new patch notes. But yeah, hoping they just ban the exploiters. Its the only way.

Something so new like this will always have some kinks and it is likely that it will take a year after launch before they gotten everything right. I think it is worth it though, it really solves the problem with people who play 24/7 and completes all content too fast.

Wiping is only plausible in games where players get endgame gear due to exploit, XP is still easy and fast to get so it isn't worth annoying players over it.

  • VocadiVocadi Member UncommonPosts: 205
Considering how fast it is to level in this game regardless of exploits, I think a wipe may make quite a number of people with mains at max level upset. Mad enough to quit and not come back?...remains to be seen but it is plausible. I dont think Cryptic wants to risk that.

Really I see these exploiters as a sad commentary on a more prominent type of modern day MMO gamer. Go with the easiest route to success regardless of if its unfair, unbalanced or just wrong.

Good news indeed, and relatively swiftly too. That is halfway for that exploit, the other half is banning and announcing it.

Ok a wipe is exaggerating, but a good compromise could be a fresh server in some months when they worst exploits has been addressed. Nothing lost for anyone, and if you are concerned about "fairness" like me, you can start fresh on that server.

Well yes, or rather they don't have that competetive approach to games. Competetive is the wrong word but I am lacking a better one. It has nothing to do with pvp either.

Its like sports, You play it for fun, but You still want to win. You know who are better than you, and you know whom you are better than. You compare with others, and you can do this because You are under the same rules. Gaming is great because it has many ways to compare with others than just scores. That is what a game is, and if someone gets advantages that breaks this "contract", You loose something important about gaming itself - This is also the bottom line of the whole p2w discussion but lets not go into that, no seriously please don't.

When people are talking about F2P in general, it's no big deal, since no one wins by buying stuff.

But when it comes to exploiting, all of sudden it matters if someone get stuff faster?

    You guys are amazing.

Since you can buy everything in this game with AD which translates into real money there is no real competitiveness too see anyway and i loled at destroying the economy, so basically if you put currency from and outside source ($$) into the game it's no problem at all, i remember people calling the gold farmers a scourge to the economy and all they did was the exact same thing that happens in this game.

50% of the fault lies with Cryptic and their QA such major oversights should never have see the light of day.

I know there is a lot of complaints about exploiters in Neverwinter at the moment, but I am not so sure this alters my gaming experience.  I am loving the Foundry and spend most of my time in there.  I generally avoid PvP.  If people feel they need to get to max as soon as possible by exploits, I'm not sure how that really affects me.  I always feel people like this will quickly tire of the game of the month and soon move on.  Leveling is so quick in this game, I find it hard to believe you even need to exploit to make it even quicker.  I started when it went Open Beta and I'm level 43 on a cleric and I play slowly. I'm the type that reads everything and explores all the nooks and crannies of an area.  So if someone needs to create some Foundry content just to farm mobs, I say let them if that is what they want to do.   It really doesnt affect me all that much.  As far as the economy goes, I'm avoiding the auction house.
  • GiffenGiffen Member UncommonPosts: 276

Easy fix...just launch a new server and instead of merging all the servers together later as they have planned keep the new one separate.

Players that don't want to play on a server where the economy is ruined will reroll on the new server...new players will choose the new server and the old server will just die of natural causes.

Down the road they can offer server character moves to the new server...caveat is you only bring your character and no gear.

But an easier method is just to wipe all characters and refund any spent Zen to the original purchasers.

And people wonder why devs get EXTREMELY heavy handed with bans, especially when gamers exploit at a game's infancy.

The very same gamers will claim there is nothing to do at endgame after they exploit their way to the top.

My advice is to ban first, ban with little discretion, and make people scared to do anything that may even remotely be considered cheating. WIthin that week, unban those who may have been mistakenly punished due to the stern bannings. You will instill a fear of cheating that will make players who give a crap about their characters (not gold sellers/botters) think twice.

That's not a very practical solution, particularly for a F2P game where creating dummy accounts for the purpose of exploiting is fairly trivial. You'll probably scare off the casual exploiters, anger legitimate customers who were caught in the indiscriminate bannings, and the the more dedicated exploiters will just continue merrily exploiting away. Nothing is resolved and the game gets a bad reputation for having lazy/incompetent GMs/developers (which is a reputation most F2P games already have, this will just compound it).

Edit: wait, after going back and reading the exploit some, I just realized something...

It's the exact same exploit (well, except the dying part, you can just click on the "exit instance" button to get out of the map) used in Champions Online for gear farming. It's a three year old exploit that Cryptic has never fixed or punished anyone for. Maybe Cryptic will treat NWO differently, but don't get your hopes up.

The problem is, the damage is done and I don't see any mass banning going on.

The market if fubar with all the exploits, and until I see more then a fix here and there, the don't make any more money from me as with my guardian pack. Because stuff like this

Thanks for the feedback folks. Unfortunately, I think my time in NW is over. If it isn't the other terrible aspects of the community, the rushed release and the game breaking exploits have murdered this title for me.

My guildies turned in early tonight for the most part so I decided to queue during a delve event. After trying the entire hour of queuing into a dungeon and being booted from the party (along with being called a faggot before being kicked for making a joke about how hard it was to get into a group) I finally got a full group that didn't boot me, 2 minutes left until the delve ended.

They were exploiting the walls in Spider T2. You climb the walls by the entrance and jump over into a freefall through the map. I was told to count to 10 before typing /stuck, and was moved to the second to last campfire in the dungeon instantly. The rest of the group was up ahead, so it looks like the bug didn't work for me. I was told to relog, in which my chest would be lost, so there was an hour of time wasted on nothing. I logged.

Logged back in about an hour later...queued for Frost T2. First group I get the leader explains that we are skipping mobs, running through bosses and wiping, skipping the whole dungeon to the end boss. Once we got there, the leader showed me a place to climb up overhead of the boss and range him down. I left.

Nobody in the game wants to clear anything. Nearly everyone is exploiting and cheating. The community is lazy, with the most hideous attitudes I have yet to see in any game.

    Uninstalled.

Thank you for being the acting poster children of Western society. "It doesn't effect me, so I don't care." You don't play the game to the level others do, which is why you don't see the effect...at least not yet. I hate when casuals say, "Well I'm enjoying the game at my own pace...blah blah blah." It's because you aren't keeping up with the average player, let alone the hardcore player base. Everyone has their own way of enjoying a game. Hardcore players don't EVER effect casual players, but casual players constantly ruin games for hardcore players because they spend more time in forums than they do playing a game. So yeah, take your "I don't care attitude." and keep it to yourselves please. All you're doing is giving developers excuses to be lazy.

Unfortunately, this is the problem with an alleged "open beta" with a functioning cash shop.

To much real money has already been spent for a wipe. Exploits are notoriously hard for developers to reconcile a ban or "take back" unless some sort of hack was involved.

More then likely the best we can hope for is a fix.
