Yes, they said you can turn it off by turning off the system completely. You can not however turn it off while the system is on or in a low power state. If either on or in a low power state then yes the kinect is on and watching.
So thankfully, yes you can turn off the Kinect without unplugging the whole system... you simply have to shutdown the whole system.
People are so misinformed on the lending games. You can give anybody access to your entire game library anywhere over xbox live. No disc is required and you don't have to pay.

It is not that we are misinformed, it is that we are better informed than you. Here is a direct quote from your article:
"Allowing up to ten members for what is essentially game sharing is a very high limit, and people could potentially save a lot of money if groups are formed for the purpose of loaning games to one another. There must be a catch that Microsoft isn't revealing. Taking the policy above and the comments at face value, I don't see how games sales would not go down when people can just leech off a friend's shared game library instead of buying a new copy of a game.
Publishers still have the option to block used games and sharing, so it remains to be seen how the sharing feature will play out. Loaning and renting games won't be available at launch."
The whole thing sounds like a MS Marketing trick. The box says "Sure you can share your games!" Then after you buy the new Xbox, sorry, the publisher blocked the sharing on your favorite games.

First of all I just want to say that in no way am I being biased toward any console here. I have owned both consoles and both had their advantages and disadvantages. I totally understand and do not fault anyone who does not like Microsoft's new policies on the Xbox One. Three reasons why I'll be getting a Xbox One.
1. The games. The games were just so much better than what Sony had to offer. Everyone was complaining after Microsoft's first Xbox One's reveal about how there was no focus on games. Totally understand and a very viable gripe but at E3 they clearly had the game advantage and games are what matters most to players. They had Ryse which looked very very good and TitanFall which was amazing. Those Titan mechs were awesome to watch in action. You also had Quantum Break which clearly is going to be open of the most innovative titles this next-gen. Sony maybe more policy friendly towards gamers but games are what matter the most.
2. It is more than just games. Maybe because I'm in my 40's now I look at things a little bit different but having a console at home that gives you more than just games is very appealing to me and perhaps to the older gamer as well. We just don't like games, we also like sports and tv. To have that all in one box is quite nice.
I pretty much agree.
I also find it funny that it is getting so much hate, and after the first reveal it was being mocked as TV TV TV TV etc no games, and come E3 they have over twice as many exclusives the PS4
Sony took out a patent at the start of the year to block used games, where the games get tied to your account, and so far they have provided no information on how they are allowing publishers to handle things, but from what I have read it seems that it will be just like PC - you are the only user and can not share with even one other person or trade the game in. Whereas Xbox One allows up to ten "friends" to share the game, and you can trade the games in at participating retailers
Sony have stated that the PS4 will be able to play used games, but it seems that they are not giving the full information, and that it will be the publishers who will put DRM on the games and not Sony.
I can see why people will not want to get a Xbox ONE, but I do not see why people will automatically jump to PS4, when things are not finalised yet, and PS4 could end up being worse than Xbox ONE. The good thing though is that if not enough people preorder the Xbox ONE then MS may even remove all the restrictions completely and do whatever necessary to turn things around - MS are usually pretty good at fixing things - The original Xbox was sold at a loss, and the Xbox 360 RROD was fixed Free of charge.
I will probably not get either console at launch, as it is best to wait - later console versions are usually better designed, least likely to break down, and have more games. Right now PS4 has nothing for it that interests me, and the DRM is all up in the air - for both Sony and Microsoft.
Microsoft only problem was not going in detail about what they are trying to do with the Xbox One and why you as a consumer will want these new features.. I am looking for a new experience so the Xbox One has my full attention. PS4 is just what people like to say about mmos, its the same old same old and that's not what I want I am looking for now. Not saying its bad but its just not for me. I don't care for Sony exclusives like God Of War, Grand Turismo and Uncharted. I also don't care for Japaness games because they all have 5 hours of gameplay with 10 hours of cut scenes. I want something new and different and will support the development of it the same way people do for mmos that they belive in. Things like the online check and lending games can be changed easily because its not hardware. There is no beta test so I am sure they are now taking in feedback. Like Microsoft said this is not a sprint. We looking at a 10 year investment so who knows how this is going to play. A lot of things are going to change in the years and even before these systems release a lot of things will change. One thing I can say for sure is that this looks to be the most interesting console gen I have seen.
They don't take feedback and they won't change the online check or lending games (pretty much stated) so yeah...have fun with the new experience.

However those 10 ppl would be your closest friends or family, it still will not address the issues of your game being a 1 time only hand me down to anyone else who wishes to use it, ie through the second hand market.
As for the protection notion, well thats fine but it should not then be used as a reason to stop any player from playing a game they purchased totally offline at all times, it's one of the features I find unacceptable about Diablo 3.

Some good points, and Sony may well shoot themselves in the foot as much as Microsoft already has, but that doesn't change the fact that Microsoft has already done so. Also, just because they have the patents doesn't mean that they will automatically employ them right now or ever; a lot of companies sit on patents without ever actively using them for a wide variety of reasons. I don't see the PS4 being worse than the XB1, though, unless MS really changes their announced plans. There is a huge difference between the company providing the hardware automatically enforcing hyper levels of DRM across the board, and the company providing the hardware recognizing that potential developers want the option of that much DRM, and making it available. The latter can easily adjust to market demands and acceptance; developers will have a chance to implement the level of DRM they are comfortable with that they think each individual game will be able to justify. This is especially important in the console market where the type of games produced can vary considerably in terms of quality, duration of play, and overall purpose. Microsoft is starting out in a rough position by requiring that everyone, from the devs to the consumers, treat all console games as having exactly the same basic value; Sony is not. While there will certainly be someone who feels that Madden 2016 can justify the same amount of hurdles as a MMO style game that takes 3 or 4 times as long to complete, I don't see the whole market taking that view. By not recognizing inherent differences in the games themselves and why people play the different types of console games, Microsoft is definitely hurting the potential of the XB1 to reach out to the average console gamer that plays consoles precisely because they aren't PCs and don't require the same level of connectedness that is generally assumed with PCs. Sony is no angel, and could easily be just as bad, but it would be really hard to be worse when Microsoft has already negated most of the reasons that the average console player buys and plays console games to begin with.
On the used game market, I think both companies are in for a shock if they think they can effectively limit it without making a lot of major changes to their entire approach of how to sell to the console market; simply saying that you're not allowed to resell, trade, or even share it without facing heavy restrictions is not going to effective. Too many gamers put a lot of the value of a game in how well it can do in the aftermarket and/or do most of their game shopping in the aftermarket for either company to effectively put too stringent of limitations on it immediately. The only way that they will be able to effectively tamp down the aftermarket is to either reduce prices to reflect the relatively short lifespans most console games have in the absence of an aftermarket, or find some way to increase the amount of time that console gamers spend on any one individual game so that the gamer can justify accepting the cost and hurdles of playing a console game with heavy DRM and very limited aftermarket potential. The latter is going to be a difficult sell for single player games; while many people do enjoy the idea of achievements and guilds, and other aspects of a community, even for single player games, there are just as many that find all that extra stuff as a distraction that can hurt the overall game if the developer forgets that the game itself is still the fundamental product being sold in these cases, not the online stuff attached to it.
Neither the Xbone or the PS4 really offer anything substantial. The Wii U at least cuts a niche`, with it's party/group friendly games and actually interesting controller. But the Xbone and PS4 in my eyes seem to be trying to emulate the PC experience, and doing it poorly.
I'd prefer to take those $500, plus all the money I would have spent on over-priced console games, and just buy more PC hardware or spend it on steam game sales.
I've also seen a lot of analysts say that the winner this time around is the PC. With sharp rise in PC gaming over the past 5-10 years, the Oculus rift and upcoming Steam Box, I think we'll see that the dominate gaming platform this generation is going to be the PC.
It wins on every front, including features, game quality, game library size, cost, graphics, future proof, etc etc. I was interested in seeing if the major consoles were going to learn from their mistakes and wow me this time around, but it seems they're making all the same mistakes, and inventing new ones no one ever thought possible.
No game exchange made me lose all interest in the new xbox. Most of the good games for the xbox also come out on PC so I wont be missing much.
I'm over 40 and already have a PC connected to my TV for storage of movies and playing games on a large screen. I dont need Microsofts locked down, full of restrictions, crap box to do basic stuff on my TV.
The no game exchange is really the only thing I see that's hard to swallow but its the same with pc gaming. 99% of pc gaming is now digital with no trade in or exhanges. Just take a look at STEAM. Console gaming is going to go full digital and its not a matter of if but when.
As for most of the games I still don't see it. Only Titanfall and Spark are going pc and really its not about pc, its that these games still wont be on PS4. Quantum Break, Killer Instinct, Ryse, Forza, Halo, Dead Rising 3, Powerstar Gold, Crimson Dragon, LocoCycle and off course first time ever working with Insomnica brining Sunset Overdirve. How are most of the games coming to PC?

It needs to change to maybe 24 hours since they do a 24 hour check on the system.

Been gaming since my late teens and never once have I ever shared my games on any console or pc. The other thing is that when I had a 360 my console was always connected to the internet 24/7. Don't see how this is an issue. People that complain might have something to hide perhaps ?

As for the protection notion, well thats fine but it should not then be used as a reason to stop any player from playing a game they purchased totally offline at all times, it's one of the features I find unacceptable about Diablo 3.
You will have a shared circle of any 10 people on your friends list. You can give all of these people access to your library but only 1 person can be playing a game at a time. All 10 cannot be playing your copy of Halo at the same time. That's pretty much expected if you ask me. I just don't like the 30 days. It needs to change to maybe 24 hours since they do a 24 hour check on the system.
You keep missing the important part...
"Publishers still have the option to block used games and sharing,"
With Microsoft giving publishers the option to block this feature... how many do you think are going to allow this feature? The publisher have been actively trying to stop the sharing and sales of used games. Microsoft has given them a means to. Microsoft has tried to back pedal and say it's up to the publishers.
I get that you are trying to spin the negatives into positives for Microsoft but none of us here are really that gullible. The devils in the details and spin can't change that.
You forgot the 2 games that practically stole this E3 - DESTINY and THE DIVISION. Neither will be available on PC.
He didn't mention them because they will be on PS4. His goal is to make the Xbox One look good through all the issues and negatives coupled with the limited appeal of the few exclusives it actually has.
People are so misinformed on the lending games. You can give anybody access to your entire game library anywhere over xbox live. No disc is required and you don't have to pay.

This is the same thing with PS4. They are giving the publsihers the right.
Never been much of a console lover, however my wife and I have been thinking about purchasing a console just to consolidate our entertainment center to get rid of the Roku, bluray and stuff. We will most likely get the PS4 just because of the affordability and availability of accessories at lower prices. Were not halo lovers, the one game we really do want to play is exclusive to the PS, which is the eve online FPS that's coming out.
In the end, I think it all comes down to taste, like it always has. Halo lovers unite to the Xbox, and more family oriented houses tend to get the Nintendo products for younger kids, and then there's the rare PS breed who are just die hards I suppose. Maybe were just die hards lol, who knows, I am a big old school tomb raider fan.

They will clear this up and I am sure they will do it soon.

Make sure you add "if the publisher allows it". Otherwise you are continuing to try and spin which hasn't gone very well so far. They have tried clearing things up but so far they've only made things worse. There best bet is to simply push games at this point. They've dug a hole to deep to climb out of with the rest. They need to push games and hope there is a big enough audience that just doesn't care about the limitations and issues with the console.
As far as how can I laugh... well it's simple. To hand someone a disk on the Xbox One I have to have them on my friends list for 30 days and then I can give them the disk but only if this process hasn't been done before oO... with the PS4, I can simply hand you the disk and let you play. You can hand it back and let me play.
Though we haven't even covered the fact that friends are supposed to be able to play your games on the PS4 as well. We need more details on it of course but...

People are so misinformed on the lending games. You can give anybody access to your entire game library anywhere over xbox live. No disc is required and you don't have to pay.
On the 24 hour online check it is for protection. This is server based gaming so how else do you protect it? How do you stop a person from changing the Xbox One to a hack machine and connecting to Xbox Live Servers? Look at what happened to Sony and its only going to get worse.

They will clear this up and I am sure they will do it soon.
Again how can that make you laugh when I can let anybody I want on my frienst list access my entire game library from anywhere in the world. Are you that easily entertained?
The publisher right is something people should already know about. Like I said Sony also has this.
You wont have to give anybody anything. This is cloud gaming.
You don't have to hand them anything. They access your games
Again, if the publisher of said game decides to allow it. Please keep that in mind because that is the reality.
Secondly it affects far more than trading. Xbox One isn't even allowing the ability to rent games at launch (Gamefly and numerous others are going to be impacted by this). Used games are going to get hit (Most notably is Gamestop and Bestbuy). It decreases the value by a large degree in many ways.
And lastly, as I said before which you intentionally ignored... the PS4 has cloud gaming as well.... They have also given some details about how friends can play your games on the PS4 but haven't elaborated on it to much yet.
So... lets sum this up.
Xbox Ones policy on trading and used games effects people in numerous ways hindering everything from loaning out games, to renting games, to used game sales.
Sony does not have such a policy.
Xbox One will allow you to play friends games if and only if the publisher decides to allow it which would effect them in the same way as used game sales and sharing does currently which they are totally against. Even then you are limited to 10 people that can play games in your library.
The PS4 of course also has cloud gaming and has mentioned friends playing your games but hasn't gone into great detail about it yet.
To address your edit... Sony did file a patent for similar DRM but did not use it and said they would not after the massive backlash from doing nothing but filling the patent.
You don't have to hand them anything. They access your games
Again, if the publisher of said game decides to allow it. Please keep that in mind because that is the reality.

I keep posting link afther link of what I am saying. The information is out there if you are interested. Like I said I blame Microsoft for not telling people what they needed to know.
The combination of Kinect, cloud computing and multimedia opens up possibilities within game development immensely. The rage thats going on now will be forgotten in a few years, people scream for innovation and Microsoft put plans to deliver it but with a few concessions and gamers lose all rationality and start flinging conspiracy theories around and trite nonsense about losing their consumer freedom which they never had in the first place and to top it all they fall for Sony's PR machine, who only recently were the devil incarnate, hacked PSN anyone.

“Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.” Also it tells you about the Family system which allows you to let your friend "borrow" your game without having to physically take the disc to him and publishers don't have a say over that. Please read into stuff before you try to bash someone.
Microsoft is flying out district managers of atleast EB Games Canada to their head office for conferences about the XB1 and it's systems to give stores a little better understanding but if people would just read it's pretty clear. All in all the "used games are gone and gonna hurt companies" argument doesnt really effect you. All they will do is charge Gamestop/EB Games a fee to sell used copies of their game so that Gamestop/EB Games isn't getting 100% profit from those games which they can definitely afford it's just some smaller game retailers not many people go to will have a harder time.

PC master race, all the way.

You will have a shared circle of any 10 people on your friends list. You can give all of these people access to your library but only 1 person can be playing a game at a time. All 10 cannot be playing your copy of Halo at the same time. That's pretty much expected if you ask me. I just don't like the 30 days. It needs to change to maybe 24 hours since they do a 24 hour check on the system.
Because somebody said this is too good to be true? LMAO
You forgot the 2 games that practically stole this E3 - DESTINY and THE DIVISION. Neither will be available on PC.
NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
Been gaming since my late teens and never once have I ever shared my games on any console or pc. The other thing is that when I had a 360 my console was always connected to the internet 24/7. Don't see how this is an issue. People that complain might have something to hide perhaps ?

Many others will over the coming months after the furore has dies down a bit.
