If you have already hit end game level then the base game was NOT good. You should be living out a role play adventure where by levels are sort of like years in your life, they should not be flying by like the speed of light.
When i play something ,anything at all and i call it FUN,then i want it to last, i don't want fun times to be over in a blink.
You did some quest so now your a more experienced player?lol or you found some new area of land so now your a more experienced player?Seriously who started all this ridiculous game design? The problem is that since MOST of mmorpg gamer's started in Wow they think this is the way a rpg should be played.
It should take YEARS before your player is fully experienced in all it could learn.A living breathing persistent world is not meant to be a single player game where you run through 500 quests beat a few bosses and your done.
You're basically saying no MMO has ever been good, because none have ever required years of play to be fully experienced in. As normal I don't agree with the point you make.
Asheron's Call. Just because you grew up on wow clones does not mean alternatives do not exist.
There is no such thing as a "hard" dungeon in these types of games imo. Its simply a matter of time investment to learn strat and grind gear. I promise in 6 months players will be smoking these dungeons. Now a lot of players don't have the time or will to invest in such endeavors and so they will inevitably fall off. But once a chunk of the population starts showing up in raid gear, it will only take one group member to carry the most casual group of newbs through these supposed hard dungeons.
IMO, WS ultimate failing will be the complete lack of a virtual world worth living in. You hit end game and enter a lobby where you queue for w/e. A lot of players simply aren't going to stand around whistling dixie, staring at an uninspired city day in and out waiting on their queues to pop.
I mean, what's the point of endless hours of dungeoning for? I realise that question can be posed to any game, because its not a real thing after all. But the lack of a living breathing world reminds me of PvP in GW2. Why should I care about PvP gear if all I do with it is queue for instances... ya know? Big whoop.
That is what WoW clones are reduced. For Carbine to waste 5 years of development, primarily on zones with 1000s of generic quests that will ALL be finished in a month or two and never be returned to again... just to be doomed into a handful of instanced dungeons for eternity... Yet, as you can see by all messageboards, people have been convinced that this is the only possibility out there and that this is the whole genre. Sad how easily people can be trained.

WoW bred an entire generation of players into this mentality of game play. It does no good to try and convince them otherwise. They'll never get it.

It's not the only stuff it offers but it is a raider's home.
I figured as much...Watching the devs unleashed video right now a direct quote from it. Keep in mind discussing endgame...Some paraphrasing as he added a lot of descriptors to each little talking point.
"We have content for everybody, You've probably heard about raids being crazy for the hardcore 1%, and it's true and they are, but we have that type of content for everybody...", "we have root PVE content, Like adventures. We have battle grounds, arenas, open world PVP server rulesets, then for the hardcore PVP 1 % we have warplots"
What was that everyone was saying about games catering to everybody? As well as do your research?
And all that stuff you listed IS available to everyone (as far as I know, I don't play WS). The difference is that YOU are asking for the RAIDING to be open to everyone when in your very own quote it says they are only for the hardcore 1%
You make zero sense.
WHat, who asked for raiding to be open to everyone? My question was asking why people would leave if they don't only cater to the 1 %. You make zero sense...

What does my forum name have to do with asking a pretty logical question, at least IMO? Lets go back to where this started, a poster said all the people seeking challenge would leave if they catered to others, I asked why would that be the case. As offering something for others, does not remove the existence of challenging content.
Why is that a logical question? Because hardcore raiders don't usually make up a large part of any communities player base, there are plenty of others, from those who PVP to those who craft, as well as those who casually partake. Yet they are to cater to only one segment of that current player-base, otherwise the hardcore leave? What sense does that make from a business perspective? "Hey thanks for getting us off the ground, but from here on out, you'll want to play something else, if you don't want to raid...". Is that the sales pitch here?
But I forgot...I'm the one thinking from a self centered perspective..
It has nothing to do with it other than being ironically funny.
The op wasn't talking about raiding difficulty, and many here aren't talking about raid difficulty. The game, as a whole, was designed to be more difficult than the typical modern mmo. However, carbine has been pretty clear that their vision for the game is one that focuses on end game raiding with a higher difficulty, but that's not the entirety of the game, jut the end game focus.
I haven't seen any reports about this game costing excessive millions to make, so they probably don't need millions of subs to keep it going. They designed a niche game, yet your entire argument revolves around the idea that there won't be enough people interested in a harder MMO to keep the game going.
There are a ton of former WoW players that left because of the reduction in difficulty, and blizzards attempt to make end game an all inclusive activity. There are plenty of people that want something more akin to vanilla WoW, which carbine has been pretty up front about providing that type of experience.
You keep using the word logic, I'm not so sure you understand what that means.
Logic would dictate that if a game like EVE, that fills an even smaller niche than WS does, can thrive, then there's no reason that a game catering to a larger niche can't.
But I understand your "logic" very well, you made it clear in an earlier post. You're the person that will complain to a dev that you pay a sub like everyone else and should be able to complete all the content for that very reason. That very little bit of information is all it takes to understand that you're exactly the sort of person to go into a game and expect it to cater to you because you pay a sub. I'm sure you'll deny it, but you've written exactly the same stuff people would write on the Rift forums when they would demand that trion give them a way to gain raid gear without having to raid.
It was exactly your kind of attitude that drove me away from Rift. I got sick of the self entitled, shitty attitudes that many people brought to the community and game, demanding that things be changed so they don't have to actually do the content the devs created yet be rewarded the same as those that did.
And yes, that is an incredibly self centered form of thinking.
Way to read me totally wrong... I've never asked for a change to any MMO ever, I'm an ex-SWG player I know what happens when devs give players "what they want". You know what they say about assumptions?
My only issue in this topic is people expecting devs to cater to a small percentage of players only. WHich is not even the case with WS, and is nothing but a forum myth.

What, exactly, is the the point of everything between level 1 and max level? Just a mere tutorial? Sorry, but I don't need 49 levels to understand and learn a class. Neither do I need 1000 of generic stupid quests. A simple tutorial and some kind of an arena with NPCS would be enough. Much like in many PvP only games, where this approach is used to teach new players how the classes work.
So, if it is only about endgame, why bother with developing all the zones, quests, lore and whatsoever in the first place? Why waste tons of money on a dead part of the game no one seems to care about anyway?
One would assume that the only thing the MMO crowd needs is a hub (for showing of the epics) and tons of dungeons.
As a solo player it's pointless me continuing with this game. Probably my own fault for being unsociable but for me it makes gaming a hassle.
But i too thought there would be more to go for than raiding/dungeons etc.
I am new and a low level so forgive me if this makes no sense but It would be something if instances scaled to the amount of people there so you could solo dungeons for alot less XP if you are a loner.
LFG stuff is a nightmare. Once @ 50 there is no grind for a solo player. There is nothing.

While I agree pvp needs to be changed. I will greatly disagree with you calling the dungeons easy.
These are not WoW dungeons at all, they do not require just gear and numbers. While gear is still an important factor, you still NEED to know how to dodge appropriately and the mechanics of the fight. While later on there will be faster runs in the dungeons, it's not because people got better gear, its because people know exactly what to do.
Week and a half until new content. Couple patches for bug fixes over time. I think it's doing just fine. Take a week off or work on finishing up getting challenges, housing items, attunement, gear, mounts etc etc. This is one of the only games to launch with a competent endgame.. but lets be real, it's 3 weeks in. Give it some time bro.. go mentor down a help some lower level players an train your own elite squad of awesome badasses who care about doing shit right; then when new content hits and more people get up to cap, you'll be ahead of the curve.
This begs to question… why are there do many folks at end game three weeks in? Bro.
Variety is the spice of life. Truth be told, if we allowed these niche games to cater to their specific niche markets then those players wouldn't be in other game forums crying to change a game that was not meant for them. Personally, I do not like raiding at all. So if WildStar is a raiding game, it is simply not for me and I will simply stay far, far away from it. Fortunately for me, it's not the only game in the market. So guess what I'm going to do? That's right! Play one that as closely as possible, fits my gaming preferences.
And you never asked yourself why hardcore raiders dont have their game and why they whine in every game?
Hint: answer is pretty obvious. You even touched on it in your last sentence.
Not trying to be rude, but reading some of these comments just makes me think half of you don't even play the game or just haven't looked into it because some of the info is just waaay off

Mine let down list is much longer but if we talk here difficulty level.... yep, I think is to hard, mainly when mobs respawn too fast and some classes, mainly medic, do not enough of dps. For stuff to do at cap ... as much as I was happy (so far 6 alts between lv. 16 and 22) with game ... in last day or two something changed and it looks to me to many problems accumulated will prevent me to sub on 3.7.
Here is my list of main let down:
only 1 (ONE!) toolbar with 8 active keys; if I will stop to play I’m already sure this will be for this problem because problem it is; usually this spells button mashing, especially as abilities starts to pile up; always hated when game enforces me to “select” only some spells out of zillion; leave that to PLAYER!, if somebody likes can play game with single spell and any game but if i wish to have and can HANDLE that 2 or 3 toolbars full of abilities that is MY problem;
even on that single toolbar keys are unlocked with leveling so up to i.e. only at lv. 9 you will have 6 unlocked, at lv. 1 only single; I always in any game have “spam” spell on button 5 and hate being forced move that to key 1 or 2; want to have healing spells on other toolbar and usually main 2 linked to F4 and F5, ... etc .... whole toolbar(s) should be unlocked since level 1 even if single spell available at start; fortunately is possible at least to move spells to any already unlocked button, lessening somewhat this problem; at level 9 there are 1-6 keys unlocked
some even say “wait until lv. 30 and will understand 8 buttons is fine” .... sorry, do not want to wait past half game for that to happen if will happen; surely will come to lv. 30 with at least some of my alts; button mashing is already killing my will to play;
bots, mining bots, disgustingly a lot of them (and same for battlegrounds but I do not go there)
some patch at the end of beta caused fps to drastically fall down with same computer and same settings; stayed so at release, too; and I’m not alone in this; this workaround: http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/31563#post helps a lot of getting at least 10-15 fps at same conditions
no option to remove chat bubbles! they can be incredibly annoying when you attack group of mobs and they are in middle of fight constantly babbling something, covering fighting scene with that nonsenses (can be fun at start, but soon become very annoying)
“active combat” mean one have to spend more time just to dodge, left, right, back, forward, ... than for actually doing any combat as combat should be; in close quarters you are dead; same with ads; here also becoming sick of constantly jumping around like monkey just not to get killed;
bugged engineer pets, they will many times just aggro all around even out of combat; terribly lot of times they are just stuck somewhere, only way is to dismiss them; combat with engineer is actually better without them; aggro problem also with esper pet

True, but this game has little journey or development. Unless Journey you mean lame quests and Development you mean AMPS and a few skills then yeah...playing the same class gets boring so fast. I actually think this game would work if you made it all dungeons, adventures, raids, pvp. picked a class to play designed your character and get into the action. just focus on gear progression. but you can't charge a sub with that.... which is why Carbine will never do that.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

They are all MMO's (Massively Multiple-player Online) so it's not possible to "skip the MMO part." If I were you I would be offended if people are telling you to skip the MMO part because what they are really telling you is to log off and go play an SP (single player) game. Semantics notwithstanding,I was referring to the original definition of an MMORPG. And no, they were never anything close to anything resembling a lobby game. In an MMORPG you are living a journey in a virtual world and during that journey you are developing your character through multiple levels.
School is out.

And WS is all about endgame and lobby gaming, even most avid followers recommend skipping the "MMO" part (by doing more lobby gaming), and they call it MMO. Really weird now, isnt it?
They are all MMO's (Massively Multiple-player Online) so it's not possible to "skip the MMO part." What you are now describing is a SP (Single Player) game. I was referring to the original definition of an MMORPG. And no, they were never anything close to anything resembling a lobby game. In an MMORPG you are living a journey in a virtual world and during that journey you are developing your character through multiple levels.
School is out.
Yes, and what does that have to do with my post?
Yay? I guess you have all summer ahead of you, enjoy, i did back in my time
That is what WoW clones are reduced.
Couldn't agree more.
I hope this is sarcasm.
What you are describing has been released already ... they are called FPS and MOBA games.

OK, I will assume you really don't get it so I'll try to explain.
In your post you said " And WS is all about endgame and lobby gaming, even most avid followers recommend skipping the "MMO" part (by doing more lobby gaming), and they call it MMO."
OK, now follow me closely ...
Most avid followers can not recommend skipping the MMO part and doing more lobby gaming because even if you are lobby gaming and its online with a lot of players then by definition you are playing an MMO. And the reason they call it an MMO, is because ... wait for it ... it IS an MMO. (whispers) ... if you skip it then you are no longer playing an MMO, you are playing an Offline Single Player game ~
Finally, you quoted me and I was referring to an MMORPG, not an MMO. There is a difference.
Hope that helps.

Asheron's Call. Just because you grew up on wow clones does not mean alternatives do not exist.

WoW bred an entire generation of players into this mentality of game play. It does no good to try and convince them otherwise. They'll never get it.

WHat, who asked for raiding to be open to everyone? My question was asking why people would leave if they don't only cater to the 1 %. You make zero sense...

Grew up on WOW clones? ROFL... SO AC was the only good MMO? Not... I hated it, SWG was much better.

You seem to live in an all male world! How is that going? You login and 51% of the world gaming population magically disappears hmmm? Interesting!

It's called "Invisibility."
A gender trait unique to the Human Female race.

Not even remotely close.
People cant handle even an ounce of difficulty before screaming "THIS NEEDS NERFED" in the forums.
Because leveling isn't the hard part?
And you never asked yourself why hardcore raiders dont have their game and why they whine in every game?
Hint: answer is pretty obvious. You even touched on it in your last sentence.
It seems that at some point they had a shift in design philosophy and just abandoned open world and concentrated on lobby game. Thats why open world ended up so bland. BUT....they still spent boatload of money on that dead weight.
Man its like listening to a group of old men sitting in the park grumping away about how life was great but now everything is terrible, still sharing misery is important.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I hope this is sarcasm.

Its better than listening 5 years old proclaiming empty juice bottle "greatest thing ever". Now for 5 years olds, you can understand, they dont know better, when adults start doing that...for me its funny as hell, but then, im not that adult and in the end i dont give a damn "why"
AND, btw you missed an analogy because "good ol' days" were pretty much all crap, been there done that, but its all right, its not like these forums have much insight/wisdom in it, i come here mostly for the laughs.
And WS is all about endgame and lobby gaming, even most avid followers recommend skipping the "MMO" part (by doing more lobby gaming), and they call it MMO. Really weird now, isnt it?
Mine let down list is much longer but if we talk here difficulty level.... yep, I think is to hard, mainly when mobs respawn too fast and some classes, mainly medic, do not enough of dps. For stuff to do at cap ... as much as I was happy (so far 6 alts between lv. 16 and 22) with game ... in last day or two something changed and it looks to me to many problems accumulated will prevent me to sub on 3.7.
Here is my list of main let down:
only 1 (ONE!) toolbar with 8 active keys; if I will stop to play I’m already sure this will be for this problem because problem it is; usually this spells button mashing, especially as abilities starts to pile up; always hated when game enforces me to “select” only some spells out of zillion; leave that to PLAYER!, if somebody likes can play game with single spell and any game but if i wish to have and can HANDLE that 2 or 3 toolbars full of abilities that is MY problem;
even on that single toolbar keys are unlocked with leveling so up to i.e. only at lv. 9 you will have 6 unlocked, at lv. 1 only single; I always in any game have “spam” spell on button 5 and hate being forced move that to key 1 or 2; want to have healing spells on other toolbar and usually main 2 linked to F4 and F5, ... etc .... whole toolbar(s) should be unlocked since level 1 even if single spell available at start; fortunately is possible at least to move spells to any already unlocked button, lessening somewhat this problem; at level 9 there are 1-6 keys unlocked
some even say “wait until lv. 30 and will understand 8 buttons is fine” .... sorry, do not want to wait past half game for that to happen if will happen; surely will come to lv. 30 with at least some of my alts; button mashing is already killing my will to play;
bots, mining bots, disgustingly a lot of them (and same for battlegrounds but I do not go there)
some patch at the end of beta caused fps to drastically fall down with same computer and same settings; stayed so at release, too; and I’m not alone in this; this workaround: http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/31563#post helps a lot of getting at least 10-15 fps at same conditions
no option to remove chat bubbles! they can be incredibly annoying when you attack group of mobs and they are in middle of fight constantly babbling something, covering fighting scene with that nonsenses (can be fun at start, but soon become very annoying)
“active combat” mean one have to spend more time just to dodge, left, right, back, forward, ... than for actually doing any combat as combat should be; in close quarters you are dead; same with ads; here also becoming sick of constantly jumping around like monkey just not to get killed;
bugged engineer pets, they will many times just aggro all around even out of combat; terribly lot of times they are just stuck somewhere, only way is to dismiss them; combat with engineer is actually better without them; aggro problem also with esper pet
small number of classes and races
very small number of different spells/abilities
True, but this game has little journey or development. Unless Journey you mean lame quests and Development you mean AMPS and a few skills then yeah...playing the same class gets boring so fast. I actually think this game would work if you made it all dungeons, adventures, raids, pvp. picked a class to play designed your character and get into the action. just focus on gear progression. but you can't charge a sub with that.... which is why Carbine will never do that.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
They are all MMO's (Massively Multiple-player Online) so it's not possible to "skip the MMO part." If I were you I would be offended if people are telling you to skip the MMO part because what they are really telling you is to log off and go play an SP (single player) game. Semantics notwithstanding,I was referring to the original definition of an MMORPG. And no, they were never anything close to anything resembling a lobby game.
