Why is the game so popular? Why is the game always full? Every server? Are you mad? Look at all these people. This is not even a major hub.
So your defense of "It's not a WoW clone!" is to show off pictures of a handful of players?
Yup. And it IS a WoW clone. But I don't see how standards have hit an all time lo.
Because we're praising games that do nothing new, nothing interesting, and rely on gameplay gimmicks that are poorly designed and outdated?
Other mmo's promise innovation and give you an "innovative" and SHALLOW game.  FFXIV said they're going to give you an mmo that is worthy of the Final Fantasy name.  This game, just like WoW when it released, takes elements from other games and executes it BETTER than other games.  .
Except WoW didn't do that. WoW just released a super casual version of EQ, and relied on brand name recognition, marketing, and timing to launch it into vogue.

I have to ask, what games do you like? In this thread you stated you hated ESO, SWTOR, and Rift.

    Your comments

Seems like you like going around and bashing games.

Oh and btw, you called those games "Dirt".

Tried it again during the free weekend, very well done game.

Last time I played, it was a huge grind when leveling your secondary class, with an emphasis on having to grind leves and dynamic events as the quest system was only able to level your primary class.  Is this still the case?

This is completely false. The game is thriving and not just for FF fans. Re-leveling has been adjusted substantially so more research before posting is always helpful.

I'm interested in coming back to the game.

Was hoping some of you guys here could help me select a server and/or recommend a good free company. Any ideas? I would be starting from scratch.

Other than new dailies what else is there? for people who don't want to grind dungeons for leveling they are left to grinding fates.

I went back to the game on 16th when they offered free weekend.

My Dragoon is level 50 and I have not done all the quests. So many side quests for alts to get tons of free xp and gil !!

And no, I never grind anything.

I have been enjoying the game as well.  I played the original release way back and while I didn't think it was as horrible as some may say - it has definitely improved VASTLY since it was relaunched.

The animations and effects are so beautiful, it breathes so much life into everything you do.  The music is wonderful, and a lot of it reminds me of Ocarina of Time soundtracks.  The dialogue and cutscenes are great.  The story is awesome so far up to level 15.  It does get a little awkward though having some cutscenes voiced and some are not.

The game is packed from head to toe, and I don't know if it was just because of the free weekend or not, but it was busy and my server (Balmung) had a few queue's this weekend.

I can't say too much just yet as I have only messed around a bit with conjurer, archer and lancer to around level 15.

Glad you're enjoying it so much OP.  I actually just quit myself.  It's not bad by any means, but I can't stand the direction this game has taken after playing ffxi for so many years.

Everything is dumbed down tot he nth degree.  You stack one, maybe two stats on a job and that's all there is to gearing.

Combat is as dumbed down as it gets (Here Ifrit, lord of the inferno, have a fire spell, that'll teach ya!

Crafting is utterly pointless, what with the highest ilvl gear you can get from crafting being at least 20-30 levels below that of other gear AND the fact that there are no enduring gear pieces, only straight up ilvl 80, Ilvl90, ilvl100 upgrades.  You may skip one tier, but that's about it.

My next big hope is EQ Next, and while I doubt they will do half the things they claim, I just can't keep playing such a rediculously simplistic version of the game.  1.23 was far superior in nearly every aspect other than polish and bugs, especially combat.

It was just said before...dungeons give more exp/gil,  fates, guildhests now give bonus exp for new classes, beast tribe quests, hunting log, leves and primals. Add rested exp on top of that and other characters are a breeze.

LOL this is too rich....so why not just rearrange the UI to how you like it? In game just hit (ESC) and its in the list of options.

    Problem Solved !!

Sounds like questing is still the most efficient and probably least grindy way to level a class, but is still insufficient to level a secondary class, especially if you choose to stick with basic classes and not choose a specialization like Dragoon or Bard.

Just think how easy some solutions are to liking and not liking a game, shocking.

Just wait Felix, the game really opens up past 30 in my opinion, I was still debating the game being worth it and the game completely changed at 30 for me. Dungeons started getting challenging, the Primal fights test my ability to react as a tank and as a team, they just really made a fun game that can be very challenging at times. I'd highly recommend anyone who enjoys a good themepark to pick up FFXIV, because honestly at this point it's my favorite one out there.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
    Have played: You name it
If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

Played beta on PC and PS4, 2 days ago decided to buy it and I find it a pretty solid game.

Might be with me for some time :)

So not much new has been added for leveling alt classes other than tweaks in XP? i was saying the same thing.

    Leveling Alts:

    Quests

    FATES

    Dungeons (Duty Finder Bonus everyday)

    Challenge Log

    Hunting Log

    Guildhests

    Battle Leves

That seems to be a lot of variety of you ask me.... If you don't like any of the options, maybe other games offer a better alternative.  But i think that's a pretty good and varied list.
