I personally agree with the OP. However I understand that AA starts in a tutorial zone and it does open up, however I could not get past level 6 without just quitting. I love the atmosphere and the design, I HATE the poor combat mechanics. No, not the point and click on some hotbar buttons, I don't mind that. It's the mob tagging. WORST fricking feature in an MMO in this day and age ever! Tagging a mob away from other and waiting around for respawns is fricking retarded. I may be spoiled on Rift where everybody can get create as long as you do something to it, but in AA you literally can do 99% of the damage to a mob, but as long as somebody tagged it before you it doesn't matter. Also I personally do not like sending group invites and trying to team with every person I see on ever quest zone area just because of this system. I enjoy my own pace and not running around with strangers. But if I am getting mob blocked and wasting PvE playtime running to the next mob that's not being engaged, then I am not enjoying my experience.
Labor system....hate it. I literally just wanted to run around and harvest nodes and make stuff.....tough shit in AA. AA looked like you could have some fun and success out of not doing any PvE and just crafting....not with a Labor system. To many things required it. Hell, I needed labor points to open a loot chest to get a piece of gear. I needed labor points to harvest a node. I needed labor points to make anything. That's as far as I got before I felt like this was not for me, personally. Many can debate why this system is there and the benefits, but for a casual player it's a real turn off.
I'm not 100% sold or turned off by AA. Like stated give it 4-6 weeks after launch to see what's up. But as it is not my initial experience was very bored.
At lvl 6 you don't even know what the combat is like. You need to have skills/spells from 3 different trees to make up your "class" and once you hit around lvl 15-20 and have a lot of them you can make cool combos and get a feel for the combat more.
Also, you need to try mages, melee, archers, etc. I hated Mage and Archer combat, but Melee is very active and fun to me in this game.
Also Labor, same thing. I have 2,000 just by playing up to lvl 16 now and afked one day a few hours while I went out to the mall. I mean its not the best, but I think they will open that LP system up more for free players, if not, you can afk or just put a little money in the game if you enjoy it. No game for 100% free is going to be perfect, you have to put a lil money in to get more out of it.

I'm afraid at level 6 I am very aware what the combat is like. Hotbars, different classes to build different builds, hitting certain skills in an order to form a combo. All very standard. I am very aware how AA is built as I have watch tons of videos of gameplay. And before you discredit the fact I haven't played AA personally, it's all very standard. Anybody that's played an MMO in the last decade will see the system is neither new nor improved from any other MMO. However, that said I should have elaborated on which mechanic I disliked a little more as I had no problem with the hotbar/skill system. The 1 combat mechanic that should have been done away with and the one mechanic almost everybody (including myself) would not shut up about in the chat channel the entire time I was playing. That mechanic being the "tag the mob and it's yours".
That's so old and unfriendly to a general population of players. It's frustrating and according to a lot of people (because you cannot discredit them as they have their opinions too) the system is down right terrible. Everything looked like a bunch of chaos with people frantically trying to get their quest filled to get out of that horrible cliche of a tutorial zone. Everybody jumping in front of others with zero regard to others trying to tag everything they could before another would take it. A shared mob mechanic allowing credit to players who had a part in the death of that mob would solve all of those issues and encourage more coop without taking the time to form a bunch of needless groups for solo content. Most people would not have to stand around frantically ready to spam the 1 key to launch an arrow just to fill a simple kill quest.
It's an old combat system. Everybody that's spent time playing or researching videos will say that's not where it's at in AA. The crafting, constructing, sailing etc is where it's at. But PvE is a part of the game, and IMHO shared mob mechanics would seriously make the game (for me personally because this is all just my opinion) way more enjoyable.
The Labor system I get. I was very aware I could just afk and continue. It's very common sense. This does not mean I have to like that idea. I get everything you are saying, and just personally hope there is something Trion can do to make the game a little more casual/solo friendly.
This game is great because it is not easy mode, you can do want.
There is a ton of depth to the game and freedom to play it anyway you want.
There is a sense of accomplishment be it from making a fish pole to landing your first Sturgeon.
There are plenty of easy mode games out there tired of people saying this is too hard, it is not fair, it is a grind, it costs labor you know what it is too hard for you, but not for me.
The game is easy to level in you can not do one quest and get to 50 but people cry questing is not fun, well if you are bored with AA and questing this game is not for you because you are not smart enough to do something else in it.
Go play WoW or one of the other 100 easy mode games, but stop trying to change a great game.
Have you ever thought maybe the game is not the right game for you?

Your statement sounds like your own opinion over rides and discredits others opinion. If a player has an opinion about a game then that's his opinion. If those opinion start to become louder and louder and there starts to be a common trend of players with the same opinion then that's an issue developers are going to think about.
Obviously if somebody is displeased with a game or game mechanics, they will stop playing and voice their opinion WHY they do not like the game. That doesn't mean you have to take it to heart and shoo them away. That's why forums exist, to give players a voice.
This is not saying anybody should discredit your opinion of those players opinions, but to tell somebody to keep their opinions to themselves and go away just wont do. Perhaps these players voice becomes the majority? Then what happens? Should their voice be downsized because now the minority doesn't want "their game" changed? Of course not.
Of course none of these opinion will go anywhere. This is MMORPG.com and devs don't come here for suggestions
1-50 is the same as any other quest grinder MMO. The only way to know if the game is good is to let the community develop and see if it sucks then.
I quested to 15 on my last character - did farming crafting and fishing to 50 in 4 days.
That was my 3rd time leveling to 50. My first charter quested a lot - and it was the most boring by far.
Players that focus on questing thinking that its the only option are just following their existing themepark conditioning where questing is the only way of leveling up.
Not so in AA.
Once you understand AA you'll see how easy it is to get to 50 - and that is just the beginning.
As far as what makes AA great - the fact that it doesn't focus on raids or dungeons as end-game, but rather social interaction involving many guilds - trade, resources, territory control, politics and open world PvP.
It also focuses on more mature audience - that's what I like about it.
I would love to play a game focusing on these aspects but man, combat, graphics and animations really sucks...

Its not really an opinion, when you come in with a title such as this.
The title alone implies that anyone who likes the game is stupid. A true opinion would be to have played the game as it is meant to be played, and then to come and say I found that these features were not to my liking and why, and leave it at that. Don't imply that the rest of the world are morons for liking the game.
I honestly don't get why you feel you have to defend this person. Unless you are like him and feel that simply posting negative stuff about a game because you did not like it is: "an opinion"
It is not.
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
This is literally one of the worst designed and worst looking mmos I've seen in years. It literally looks like it came out of 2004. I imagine the same trolls that like EVE Online will probably enjoy this game. Anyone who thinks this game is 'good' is the reason why we can't have nice things in the MMO community.
Having so much fun with the justice system in this beta; if i knew it was so fun i would have done the quest to become part of the jury in alpha.
There are so many things to do in this game that if you don't like something you'll surely find something else to do.
If you don't like anything at all then change game, no point in continuing hurting yourself. People that imply that the mmo market is failing because of certain games should just keep it silent and save the face.

You could always play Wildstar ...there is a game that would be more your style , cartoons , bright lights ,no thought no effort and it's was made in 2014 just for you

I don't agree with the OP at all. I think that he saw a fraction of the game and made a judgment. I do agree with you about mob tagging though. I realize that this is a competitive PvP game however the initial experience of fighting each other for beginning quest mobs is ridiculous. I started going into zones and setting up huge raid groups to get quests done. It isn't a good thing to have a bottleneck on the first few quests of the game. It would be nice to change this aspect of the game...I agree.
With the labor system, a hotly debated topic, it forces you to plan your play sessions. I've heard that opening loot no longer will require LP. That is a good thing. I'm a dedicated crafter so I have to also plan my play sessions. With the LP situation, I was still able to build my cottage in a few days...even after a massive gathering session. For F2P players, I think this will be more painful. I'm a patron.
Getting to the overall post though...AA will not be for everyone. I've played quest heavy games like SWTOR, TSW, ESO---full voiced, epic stories, etc. In fact I'm still playing ESO and struggling to progress (at my snail pace) through pages and pages and pages and pages of quest dialogue. My poor brain is full of lore, all the stories and frankly things are starting to run together and get dull. I will continue to plod along out of sheer stubbornness to see it all. Another game that was an epic journey for me was SWTOR....great class stories. The problem with these types of games though is that it ends too soon. When I had finished up my stories in SWTOR, finished my companions...I was left feeling....what next? Sure I can run dungeon xyz over and over again for my daily tokens and perhaps get picked up for a raid. I've been there and done that so often now that it is very tiring.
For me personally, AA is a breath of fresh air. Sure, my initial play though, I was shaking my head at the awful questing, the annoying grunting my gal was doing while in combat, fighting over mobs. I tend to stick with things and kept playing. My first big ah ha moment was getting my glider. I love exploring. Now granted, I was annoyed when I couldn't place my scarecrow farm because I wasn't a patron. After thinking about it, hubby and I decided to buy the founder's pack and CB3 was a really positive experience. This closed beta was even better. I hung out with my beta guild, did some epic naval battles, ran some trade packs, socialized. I think this game is going to bring back my great guild experiences from other games. I'm really excited. I think that AA is so jam packed with things to do that it will be hard for me to get bored. That is what has been missing for me out of many MMOs these days.
If AA turns out to be a huge flop for whatever reason, perhaps future developers take note and add more of the interesting things into future games. I desperately want more sandboxy elements and for me...AA delivers. Is it perfect...nope. But interesting enough for me to sink some time into it. When I play ESO now, all I want to do is glide down a mountain or to some other interesting peak. Where is my house? AA has kinda spoiled me. If I do get desperate for story, I can always log on to my TSW lifetime account, download the issues I missed and catch up. Or I will continue my ESO subscription and log in for a break in another world. Nothing wrong with these games either. I just find my tastes and preferences have been changing.

QFE -- Well said. I agree 100%. What's wrong with you people? You really got to get around more if you think this game is well designed.
People literally keep saying the game doesn't open up until after X level and that people who do not like it should not comment until they actually get to the meat and potatoes of the game. Trion has realized this is actually a problem and has been trying to get with XLgames to find a better way to getting to this good material earlier instead of having players chug through the "boring" content.
This has constantly been a problem with MMOs for years. You jump through a few hoops and then you get to certain content that should really just be the game itself. If AA is so great outside of the "uninspiring" PvE then why not just cut most of that out, or better yet reverse the order? If you can level up on other things other then PvE questing, why start with it? Give players the choice right from the start. Want to be a merchant traveling around the lands, cool start that way. Want to be a pirate, cool start that way. Want to just harvest nodes and make armor and items, cool start that way. Anybody that needs to opening levels for a tutorial should just play an optional tutorial and let the others who want to play "the fun game the way it's meant to be played" the option to do so.
So unfair. If somebody cannot understand why others think it's so great should voice their concern. If players cannot get past the content at the beginning that's "not even supposed to be the fun part" about the game should be able to voice why they could not.
I personally admit I did not enjoy my first impression of the game. If we are missing out on a truly remarkable game because of our first impression then perhaps the first impression should be looked at. If more and more people dislike the game off the first impression then perhaps we are missing out, but first impression are important. No longer should "dude you have to wait to get to the good stuff" be a valid excuse to discredit others displeasure.

I have tried Wildstar, actually. It's actually a well designed game, but I don't like the art style or the class design. Still better than Archeage. I know, lets make an MMO that has a graphic style from 10 years ago, no voice overs, dull questing, and full on griefing pvp! Seems legit! True 2014 Triple A classic!
Get real, people. This game is horrible and will go nowhere.

Oh my, graphics from 10 years ago! Who cares.
Oh my, no voice overs! Who cares.
Oh my, dull questing!! When was the last time you saw interesting quests? Who cares.
Oh my, Full on griefing PvP!! Thats a new one! Well.....who cares, its PvP.
Yea nice reasons Andrew, move along, this game is not for you. Go back to sitting on the sidelines waiting for that perfect game.
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
All those recent themepark mmo's with half assed pvp battlegrounds and instance no name pvp was so bad.......SWTOR / Warhammer / Aion / ESO / GW2 and god know what more fail mmo's i played to get my pvp fix and never got it.
Now Archeage comes along with 1 big open world with no shit like ESO megaserver crap, no 1 big world where your guild carve out their own name against all the other pvp guilds.
Tired of same faction noobs camping pve elite mobs ? Control F and kick their faces in. Running 2 trade ships filled with packs and heading to Freedrich island into the lions den....sending scours ahead that report 40 to 80 reds......oh man it makes my blood pumping.
Finaly a real PVP mmo.
And btw it takes 5 days to level to 50 lol, faster if you know what you are doing. 2 days if you have your guild boosting you in Exeloth / Auroria.
Great mmo if you love pvp, be it solo / small group / medium group / or insane zergs where faction against faction clash it out for best farming spots / honor / epeen.
I am so amused by these post from players who have no clue wth they are talking about heads up for the clueless: dont play archeage if you dont got balls. Stick to carebear mmo's.

I got to get a little action in Wildstar in beta testing as well. The game was very well designed (albeit there was some laggy performance issues) but it was boring as hell. I just did not like the quests, art style, character development or PvP. But the point is that initial impression of the game. It was so drab and boring to me personally. Very much the same AA has felt. I've played other traditional MMOs that are very themepark that I actually enjoyed because of my first impressions. The games got me hooked and I was able to buy into the rest of the game.
I was so hyped about AA, but that initial sell just did not get me and it appears the same for a lot of other players. Farms, houses, ocean vessels, exploration, etc was all advertised. I've been MMO'ing much to long to eat the traditional MMO garbage to get to what the game is being advertised as.
Yes you can do quests or grind to level and that is where the similarities pretty much stop. The "grind" in archeage is crafting/farming at max level and it sort of happens in the background while you enjoy the PvP/Housing aspects of the game. Getting to level 50 is not a challenge, even compared to most Western MMOs.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

There are PvP MMO's out there and they only cater to a small part of the community (think Age of Wushu). 5 days of continuous play right? How many people play that much at one time. How many people will be in a guild like that and by a founders pack and sub too.
You like open world PvP , I like PvP that is more organized and less let's gank this lowbie because we are UBER.
This game will end up being like EVE, very few new players many old players in big guilds just throwing money down the rat hole. It is a game with caters to the few and ignores the many.
Theres some good and bad things with AA, Personaly this type of pvp / world control is better done in DFUW and thats just pay2play not pay2win. I really dig that you get 3 class sets with several skill options would really leave a good variety of builds in the world which is super cool but the whole 1 labor polint per min yet you can buy 1k labor points for cash makes me believe If I get into this game its gonna cost me a bloody fortune just to stay competative with others cashing and I really dont want that.
Theres some def positives to AA and I will likely play some in release pending when it releases but I dont think its wise to take the game to serious as it will likely be filled with bots and cashers which will only anger legit players.
I'm a little put off by the aesthetics of the game. I like the concepts, but the overall design does make it seem dated. I'm guessing it's the Asian market influence that just doesn't jive with North American/European tastes. I'd love to see a fresh game built by Trion that emulates the concepts of AA but does so in a refreshing setting that doesn't make it seem like an anime cartoon. Hell, I'd take a sandbox Rift 2 over AA. I would take DF2 over AA. I hate to be against a game that is still in beta, but knowing this isn't a ground-up beta, I'm not sure AA is going to stand up against the rest of the market for very long, with some next gen titles on the horizon.

It's no different when someone eats and says "Yuck."
^What he says. AA is not obviously for players of "instant gratification" generation, it is for gamers. you open your wallet once a month and play a sandbox game with a community; that is what this game is all about and no it is not fun to play solo questing. this game has been out in korea and surrounding regions for nearly 2 years and even there it is a very niche market, it will be a niche market game here too. i don't mind, i am more of a themepark gamer and it is not for me, i accept it but it seems there are people who can't accept it and they try to play the game like a themepark game. there is a thing called brain in our skull, it is very useful when we use it.

GAME TIL YOU DIE!!!!

I would love to play a game focusing on these aspects but man, combat, graphics and animations really sucks...
All Time Favorites: EQ1, WoW, EvE, GW1

Its not really an opinion, when you come in with a title such as this.
The title alone implies that anyone who likes the game is stupid. A true opinion would be to have played the game as it is meant to be played, and then to come and say I found that these features were not to my liking and why, and leave it at that. Don't imply that the rest of the world are morons for liking the game.
I honestly don't get why you feel you have to defend this person. Unless you are like him and feel that simply posting negative stuff about a game because you did not like it is: "an opinion"
It is not.

Or maybe you don't get it?
People have already said why they like/love the game. Many in great detail. Why is there a problem at taking them on their word?

Get real, if you don't like a game doesn't mean it's bad.
Entitled much.
I am so amused by these post from players who have no clue wth they are talking about
heads up for the clueless: dont play archeage if you dont got balls.

This game is not:
1. Aion
2. Lineage
3. TERA
This game is:
1. Archeage
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
There are PvP MMO's out there and they only cater to a small part of the community (think Age of Wushu). 5 days of continuous play right? How many people play that much at one time. How many people will be in a guild like that and by a founders pack and sub too.
You like open world PvP , I like PvP that is more organized and less let's gank this lowbie because we are UBER.
This game will end up being like EVE, very few new players many old players in big guilds just throwing money down the rat hole. It is a game with caters to the few and ignores the many.
GJ there Trion!!
