It's like any form of entertainment where people decide to create genres.
If you're a purist for rock & roll or even hiphop now a days; you're probably not invited into many conversations about music because you're going to be annoyed with everything created over the last 20 years that has blended various elements that comes along with going mainstream.
You dirty hipster you.
You can look at it more like.. If you enjoy MMOs think of all of the other games that have borrowed the mechanics of the genre? I have to level up to shoot someone with a sniper rifle in a FPS now. I have to level up to destroy bases in RTS games now. I think most of that stems from other video game develops wishing to see big MMO profits & payer retention like MMOs of olde used to enjoy.
Some of it is sticking around also because it's now proven that people enjoy playing games with other people cooperatively.
Minecraft is 4 years old and look at all of the growth that came from a simple building game that added a few MMO styled features to allow growth?
It's a cool future overall actually. You just can't expect things to stay the way they were.
I just want EQ1 with a brand new graphics engine and AAA production quality.
You mean Wildstar or FFXIV? They got trinity, new graphics, huge raids, a giant world, massive PvE content and AAA production quality. They are pretty much an evolution from EQ1.
No, he doesn't mean those, and by you saying that I would guess that you never played EQ classic.
The entire design philosophy is different in EQ1 to those games, not least the quest mechanic.
Sure, they might be an evolution, but they have evolved into extremely different animals.
All we want is EQ1 with todays technology (ESO graphics). At least sony could give that a try. We do that world with those rules. That game you had to group and it made it very social. Today we solo thru games.
