If anything it is a hybrid of F2P and B2P... more like an extended trial.. they get a lot of the game but, no hot, no specializations, not new content, etc... unless they buy the game. I like how the raids will use the masteries and DE tech. That seems cool.

Dont see no specializations in there. Only no Revenant.
"We believe in buy to play." Uhh, no. If they did, it wouldn't have gone F2P. That statement makes no sense. B2P and F2P are different models for a reason, they either allow or restrict access based on their model.
    Is the expansion not B2P?

Dunno, your comment is just narrow minded on purpose I guess.

If a 2nd expansion launches, that will also cost 50 dollars. And you will get this one as well. Dont really see how that is not B2P.

Maybe he should of said buy to play expansion, but then I guess you would found another thing to focus on;)

i had my fun by playing the heck out of GW2 while it lasted so i am fine with what i paid for, but the moment they started their shenanigan with HoT i stopped and let it go and here we are, now coregame is free. meaning there won't be as much support as before after they release HoT. among other things. PS: it's funny that most call SWTOR F2P even though you need subscription to access latest content, but with GW2 some people don't call it F2P. (my point is for both games you need to pay to access latest content) i am not agreeing or disagreeing with them, but just saying.

    my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

Yea and they still want to call it B2P what a joke , its free to play now with download content that they want to call an expansion to trick you all and get ya to fork over $50.00 and then also have ya spend money in the cash shop on fluff. Enjoy..

I'm curious to see where raids will go, but not curious enough to throw down $50.

Huh, base game went free and you now only have to pay for expansion. So with next expansion, am I to assume that this will go the same? You then only pay for next expansion and get the current content +HoT for free? So early adaptors paid three times by then, and the ppl who pick up 2nd expansion (with early content included), once. Sounds like a sub to me :p You are subbed untill next expansion, if you want to play that one too, you need to resub (pay for new expansion) :p Smart. Maybe a dickmove towards your early supporters though. (offtopic: where did my whitelines go? do I need to use HTML code or something? :/ )

You people are quite disconnected with how things are. Just as usual on MMORPG.com though. The F2P move is done to boost the population in sPvP eventually since they are amping it up in HoT with leagues and progression. They are lowering the entry for PvPers (who mainly nowdays play free (e.g. LoL/Dota 2)). Gw2 never needed population boost for the open world. Every map was packed with players. And the LFG system was filling your party within a minute. Get your facts straight :) Let's not forget that there is only one dominant team over at NA and that discourages new teams. Kinda like what Mercedes is doing in Formula 1 atm. On a sidenote, once HoT players move on the new maps, to avoid current Tyria becoming a ghost town (like idk, every other MMO before), they're unlocking that content to anyone to have it packed. Guild Wars 2's revenue has been strong compared to other NCSoft titles, so they didn't really needed the F2P in order to "save the game" as some of you would interpret it undoubtedly.

...and an other MMO goes down the drain with an overload of bots and goldsellers. Long live F2P games *NOT*

    At Launch yes.

Although I like GW2 very much , but when leveling alts later on there were like 2-5 players in every zone at any given time. Anything BUT packed.

Most players were just leveling their characters through WvWvW following the zerg.

"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"

That is in case you take the zones besides the human starting zone into your statement as well.
Many players do not get past this zone as they just did the train running events continously.

Plus the other players were just leveling their characters through WvWvW following the zerg.

I'll go forward and claim that you have been out of the loop for quite a while about Gw2. You know, they employ the "megaserver" tech that TESO uses so the game always find you people to roam with. I'd be impressed if you actually manage to find a map that's not filled with players with that thing. ... Also, ANet dealt with the champ trains in starting zones last year. P.S: On the megaserver part, the only game mode where your server choice matters is WvW. All other game modes are somewhat "combined"

Even if not, its basically how gaming works nowadays. You either pay full price and play at launch OR wait bunch of months until discounts/summer sales/humblebundle.

Remember those guys that paid 100$ for a mount in TESO? Yeah, you can get that for a lot less no

That's how I got to enjoy Shadow of Mordor for ~8$. Pretty much a year after everybody else but still

Quick question, thinking of trying out this game as well, seems like good incentive to pay one price and get base plus expansion.  The T rating however is holding me back.  I play ESO currently and it has a very mature storyline.  Is GW2 primarily marketed to a younger crowd?

Think of when you're watching movies like The Lord of the Ring = GW2 vs. watching The Game of Throne = ESO

    Make sense?

It's not quite fair for players, who had bought Gw2 Core game. They made Gw2 core f2p and they didn't gave players who bought the game anything for it. I feel cheated right now. In addition, we have buy expansion too, if we want to more content.

That is great way to put it :) I happen to love game of thrones, but enjoy me some lord of the rings too.  I'm probably going to try it out.

    Lets see.

    3 years of game.
3 extra character slots. 10 extra bag slots.(2 bags x 5 character slots). 1 extra character slot if you pre-purchase HOT.
No requirement for app or sms security.
    No chat restrictions.
    No mail restrictions.
    No TP restrictions.
    Access to guild vaults.
    Log in rewards.
Ability to change in game gold to gems.
    1 veteran reward outfit.
    2 Living World Seasons.

The play for free is basically an extend trial for the PvE side and a way to attract PvP players that are used to play free games like LOL and DOTA.

    Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

2 Living World Seasons. - We can't play living world without buying an expansion is useless. We can come back there, but it doesn't make sense. No chat restrictions. - none profit No mail restrictions. - none profit Ability to change in game gold to gems. - F2P players can do it also, but with limits No requirement for app or sms security. - apart from comfortable profit, it is useless. In fact we have no useful profit. ArenaNet has cheated us. We have to buy an expansion which includes core game (which we have also) and doesn't give a payback for a core game price. Is it fair ?

I played Living World Season 1 & 2 without buying HoT.
No, F2P cannot change gold to gems.

I see you don't require map chat and think 3 years headstart, collecting hundreds of gold in laurels,3 extra character slots, 10 extra bag slots and 1 outfit aren't worth it.

    Yep, it is fair.

Now that you know that when the expansion #2 hits, you can get HoT packed with it, you can wait 1-3 years to get it for free. And if you wait for expansion 3&4 you can get 4 expansions for the price of one. You just need to wait 6+ years.

    Meanwhile I'll be playing it.

welcome to mmo life. WoW and FFXIV also have cash shops. Arcane is just a troll, he said he never got into the game yet here he is trolling its community with hate comments. He clearly doesnt play mmos, not sure why his opinion matters... oh wait, it doesnt.

SMS authentication is required for new accounts.
Not only that but free accounts can only mail (no items/gold) friends and can only whisper once every 30 seconds.

Bots have no way of moving the loot to other accounts and cannot trade gems to gold plus they have limited storage (tops 60 slots).

It seems Anet really took all the proper precautions. There will probably some exploiters but that will require a bit of effort and should be limited.
