As a fellow straight male, I'm in complete agreement with you Bill! In the end I'm not sure it's as big a deal as people make it out to be. I know a lot of male friends that play females because their logic is "if I'm going to spend a million hours looking at my character's behind, it might as well be a female one". I played strictly males until last year where I created a few female alts in GW2.
I've gotten over gender locked classes awhile ago and started a Brawler in Tera and now I'm looking forward to trying the Sorceress in BDO CBT2.
I am male and tend to play female characters. The graphics for them are generally better as well is the animations, customization options and clothing/gear options. I find myself trying to come up with the best looking outfits and looks for my female characters which is something as a male I do not really bother with. I do dress up unless I really have to, but my characters are fashionistas.

I still find this to be a bit... strange and one lame ass excuse for playing a girl character, no offense to you personally Kano but it IS an odd way to look at it.
I, also, could not care less about gender locking classes. I've never once been playing a game and thought "I'm really happy with my female warrior" or "I wish my male rogue could.."
It's always seemed silly to me that in an MMORPG people could say "I just can't be an opposite gender character" but have no problem with magic, super jumping, immortality, flying horses, cat people, fairies, or any other aspect of the game.
I've always had issues with creating male characters that I like for an extended period of time. You either try and make them look "cool" or "manly" and they never quite turn out either.
Maybe I just suck at it.
I think it is down to the characters proportions. Like, making a male character with normal looking size and scaling is kind of hard to do, so you either make huge beefcakes, super ripped emo boys, or like skinny looking weirdos.
Like, I try to make "Sean Bean in Game of Thrones" and end up with someone that looks like they are wearing a tape-on beard and they are wearing one of those inflatable muscle costumes.
Where as making female characters, you can just go with the default body types and they always look pretty legit.

Far from a lame ass in my experience, the ass is usually very toit, like a toiger.
It's actually a pretty straight forward way to look at it too - it's right there on the center of the screen, sort of hard to miss.
Okay. I have to ask this (sorry in advance- its not flame nor trolling intended) Have you ever masturbated to a female char?
I will give you a honest answer from my side: Yes lol- which games, I wont tell but I can tell you one thing, that little kitten of Archer in BDO needs some serious "back-rubbin" LoL
If i am playing a game that is not visually beautiful and ehmmm..doesn't have..cough.. girl on girl ..cough..action i always play male. If the game is visually beautiful it is always female because when all the fighting and engaging stuff are done with i want to check my girl's a.....assets..ehhmm..cough..cough...

Again no trolling here, just had to ask!
BDO character assets are very nice.
MMO character - no, maybe if I played Scarlet Blade however.....
One thing that everyone here at MMORPG.com seems to agree on, with regards to Black Desert, Devilian, TERA, and other imported MMOs, is that gender locking classes is an unwanted practice.
I don't find this to be the case and it's quite irresponsible to be making such claims.
Was saying same thing to myself. For every gamer you find that doesn't like gender locking. You'll find one that does, and another who doesn't care one bit.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Gender locking shouldn't even be a thing nowadays. It's a complete joke.
It is expensive, it is far more cost efficient to genderlock within reason. Honestly I would rather have a genderlocked character with awesome animations that fit the class instead of generic animations that are the same across the board which is what you get otherwise.
It is expensive but if mmo start saying why we didn't do it cuz was to expensive then they will end up doing it in other aspect of the game just to make more money cutting cost then making game play better for all just for the few.
they have already started making a opposite gender for each class, i thought MMORPG would do more research but i guess not, they have release a few so far that i dont remember but male and female ninja, female blader/samurai and more to come..., you let me down did not even research the game
I play whatever gender I feel like at the time, but I always prefer more choices to fewer. Therefore, gender locking is not a dealbreaker for me, but definitely a strike against.
When I play an MMORPG I wish to project myself into the virtual world and become an epic hero so being a male I always choose male characters because like I said it just feels like I'm projecting myself into the world and wish to feel epic. Choosing a female character feels like kind of taking away from that immersion.

To be fair it's not exactly a male and female warrior or male and female archer but each is a different type of warrior or archer etc.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

the male/female ninja, male /female blader , wizard/witch, are the same , same skills, just different animation for different body type cant expect idk a giant super muscular warrior to swing the sword the same way as a lady ( trying not to sound sexist im 100% sure i failed) but different body type so different animation but same skills, and valkyrie and warrior are 2 completely different class if that what you are talking about for the warrior, valyrie is like a paladin and warrior is jsut ur generic warrior and there is no opposite gender of archer yet

I am not a fan of gender lock at all- I love women, and heck some of the character creations on BDO made me feel a bit silly down there if you know what i mean LOL. But I just cant play a mmo on a highly imersive level if I am not in tune with that char. And to be honest none of the male chars/classes apeal to me- I want a male archer!
I do too, but to be fair I heard they were coming (Male Rangers in BDO)
I don't mind gender locking. I am a male and prefer playing males because I enjoy role playing and can immerse myself better when I can identify with the character more easily.
I can't get excited about awesome new armor that shows my cleavage better. That's just me though... Lol I think that's the difference between someone becoming their character vs controlling their character.

I don't think that's the case. It's just been a hot button issue for a lot of people. Even if the classes have counterparts some they aren't exactly the same and for some people that bothers them a lot.
