I feel bad for them. I really do. I hope they all find work soon. Unfortunately change is sometimes painful.

I wanted to try this game because it seemed charming in the lead up to launch, but I said no more Theme Parks and I meant it. The last MMO I bought and played was SWTOR.

It is kind of nice to know that my boycott (and others like me I'm sure) is having an effect on these games.

We are avoiding them in DROVES.

( Note to self-Don't say anything bad about Drizzt.)

An acerbic sense of humor is NOT allowed here.

Hardcore raiding, slow tedious level grind, are what killed the game for me in 2014. I
Slow level grind? Are you kidding? Did we play the same game? I played it casually and I was leveling my character every other session! If anything it was way to fast. Gaining a level only meant you got to see that heavy metal style "Level Up" along with the narrartor saying something funny. Back when I started playing MMOs a level would take 5 days or more and felt like an accomplishment.

I hear people whine about "carebears", but saying you're not leveling up fast enough shows where the real problem is.

How long are bad MMOs supposed to go on for?
Well how long has your favorite MMO lasted? I'm sure whatever you like sucks, at least by the logic you presented here.

Maintenance mode like City of Heroes?
If they did that, I would still be playing CoH and wouldn't consider other games like Wildstar. I'm sure if companies could, they would disable older games they made to "convince" you to buy their new ones.

This is a great day for the MMO anti establishment. We need less Wow clone/themparks and more sandboxy innovation.

I agree, create a game with the depth of SWG, surface combat, player cities & houses (not instanced but in the normal game world), in depth crafting with resources you have to survey for, and flying combat either in space or atmospheric or maybe under the sea. But make the crafting an essential part of the game not just a time killer, where looted resources are needed to create the best weapons, armor or what ever. This way even those that don't wish to craft can reap some of the rewards by selling the resource to the crafters. If it would be run better than SWG was it could be a killer MMO.

Any thing other than another WoW theme park clone.

Give me back SWG at sunset and keep adding to it and I would pay twice what it was costing.

This is why I would never consider working in the games industry even though my dream has always been to work on video games. It's an extremely brutal industry for line employees.

I don't see Wilstar being around long enough to make it to Steam at this point. NCSoft seems to be gearing up to close the game.

The thing is, it is bad games that are suffering. If you are passionate about games, then fight for it. Wildstar had an abysmal combat system that was just unfun and was never going to be fun. I can gaurantee most of the developers behind it agree, but they just let it slide, for whatever reason.

I love the combat system. Opinions...

No idea about the leveling pace in this game, but no game that would take 5 days to level in, is going to survive in 2016. The playerbase of MMOs has changed, the no-lifers spending 10-15 hours a day playing are mostly gone, and people with real life issues that requires parts of their attention, has taken over.

What we need is neither. We need something new. We need a third party of MMOs. Trying to make an rpg without a story is ludicrous, as most rpg pools indicate story as the most important aspect. You got themes and sands churning out games with "lore " but no "story"

    Good. The game sucks.

I'm probably going to get flamed, but screw it. If you are buying anything NCSoft publishes, you are a fool. Out of all of the "big name" publishers they are the worst. They will not even blink when it comes to staff reduction, cancellation or shutdowns. Be it a good game or a bad game. Even games that are making them money are not safe. They are the EA of MMOs and their greed outweighs any commitment they have to players and fans. If you like to play MMOs for the long haul, look somewhere else. Also to show where I stand, I never really liked Wildstar. However, I did like COH and thought it was unique, so I hate them for shutting that down. Anything they publish is treated with extreme caution by me.

There's still a very small chance that WildStar enters maintenance mode and keeps cruising along with absolute minimal support.

There are a dozen games out there still running like this, no reason why WildStar couldn't be one of them unless the player base is really that critically low.

Yeah, but who wants to be part of that? Most people expect content pathes. While this announcement may not effect the NA playerbase at all, it certainly will not garner them anymore fans. Both new and existing players will be shy to sink more time into what might be a dying game.

    This is pretty sad.
Wildstar is one of the funest and most original games I played in a very long time. The F2P model was also surprizingly not P2W.
