Well such is the life of a beta tester. You are at the mercy of the dev's, and rightly so. We just have to sit around and wait for them to drop gaming goodness on our silver platters. They are out there living off pop-tarts and 3 hours sleep not getting paid enough just to be a part of video gaming. Ahh I envy them
I really would rather be a player than a maker though. I used to work at Microplay a video game chain here in canada. I must say after working there about a year I stopped playing video games. It was like, I talk about video games all damn day and when I got home I had just had enough. Watching TV and videos and just doing yardwork became 10 times more relaxing. All that talk and working around the games spoiled it for me. I'd much rather just play them than work with them, it sort of kills the magic for me.
I truly enjoy the entire video game experience. From purchasing to installing to that first day figuring out the UI. Same with movies, I don't like hearing about the stuff that goes into the making of it until after I have seen it, it kills the magic. I judge every movie and game on its own merits with no thought to who produced it or what went into making it, but judging it solely on what it does for me. I care not for innovations or new fangled ideas: if it is fun and exciting then I will enjoy it and ignore small glitches or problems and love the game for its faults as well as its successes.
Anyways, proud to be part of the RV beta and am gonna test it like a faithful employee. When it gets here it gets here, I'm not gonna bitch because it might be a bit late. After all it's a video game and they never come out on time unless they are shipped too early.
I admit to coming into this thread late, and I didn't read all the messages. But I'll throw in my .02 anyway....
Perhaps the game isn't READY to play yet??? The contest is for the beta of the game, as of right now it's still pretty alpha...... it probably wouldn't be prudent to have a bunch of people come into the game expecting to play with all the features intact already. I'm sure the Devs don't want people coming out of the experience and bad mouthing how unplayable it is, kinda like what's going on with Irth Online at the moment. Irth let too many people in an 'open beta' when the game was still really in alpha stage, and they've been paying for it with all the bad word of mouth from a lot of people. I hope this trend of letting more people in earlier doesn't continue going down that path, it seems pay to beta is just around the corner in words, in actions it's pretty much here already.
Back to Roma Victor.... be patient, trust me, as with any game, early alpha stages aren't what the majority of people want to experience. Not much to do, no one online, and crappy graphics with not much implemented is a far cry from the 'open betas' from major games that happen just weeks before release. RV has a ways to go before it's ready for human consumption, let's all visualize how great it will be when it's finally ready, and we get a chance to dive in and save Rome from the Barbarians, or show those Roman scum what Freedom really means, (depending on what part of the coin you're on)!
Actually ThePhoenix, the game is currently in the "Commercial Test" phase. For an example of some of whats available, read http://www.roma-victor.com/community/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4616 for several examples of functions in the game a little over a month ago, shown throw Commercial Tester quotes.
Thats because RedBedlam was and still is testing Roma Victors (Torture) Ability Its not yet shown in the skill tree so dont look. They needed real people to test it this specific Torture ability has a tree of its own
Torture-
Fire Torture
Water Torture
Tuna Torture
and the most infamous and ultimate "Waiting Contest Winner" Torture (note may cause flame, potential suicide, and impatienceness)
BTW this may or may not be true lol Can anyone clarify it? Haha just kidding .... I hope i seriously hope it comes tomarrow im suprised how 48 hrs becomes 4 days a simple we cant let you in till next month would do.
Ugh, jeeze you jerk-offs. Some of us didn't even GET in the game, so quit your bitching. I appologize for the language, but it frustrates me when there are those of us that have been waiting, and are continuing to wait, with absolutely no word from the Devs WHEN, if EVER, we will get to play (RUN ON SENTENCE!) and you people have the NERVE to sit there and whine that you won't get to play for another couple of days. I say play because I KNOW most of you out there will play the game. Not test it. Don't kill me for it.
I will have to wait 'till LATE AUGUST to get anywhere with the game, and you'll only have to wait 'till early August to very late July.
ya that's nice that those people can do that Dolli. Good for them, how about they be themselves and we'll be ourselves? MMM k?
Stop trying to impress your morals on us, because I frankly don't see any logic in what you're saying. Those people weren't told they were going to get beta accounts like 3 weeks ago, and still haven't received them. There's a huge difference, because as far as those people know they never will so there's no point in them stressing out about it. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I used to be one of those people, and I didn't care if I got a beta but things are DIFFERENT. Now stop throwing your ideas around before you look at the big picture.
At this point we don't know when we're getting in, and neither do you. Both of us could end up waiting just as long but there's a big difference between your circumstance, and ours. We won something, we got not just a priveledge but written word that we were going to be beta testers with the implication of soon. That makes a person a lot less impatient when they're given actual times, etc... and they don't follow through. It's a huge tease. Drives a person crazy.

I've been trying to defend me and the Roma Victor community against people like you saying a lot of us have been waiting for years and will indeed test it... But I can't help but wonder what you're doing in the Roma Victor contest thread if you get so sick of them saying they can't stand the wait? Isn't that illogical, seeing as you're actually actively seeking to get frustrated?

I wondered when this thread would degenerate into a bitch fest. I think we're there lol it's a video game, they are always late. Just be happy you even get a beta slot; sounds like some people are just gonna use this as their game to play which sucks. We're to be testing it please remember that. If it takes another month are you gonna post here every single day saying "another day goes by and nothing *sniff* *pout*.."? If you're that bored and impatient I suggest some volunteer work, it will make you feel really good inside.
Could someone give me the readers digest version of the story? I went through a few pages but didnt see anything worth bitching about. I love gossip, so lay it on me (of course only gossip relating to my question regarding this thread)!
In the begining Red Bedlam said, "let there be Roma Victor" and there was Roma Victor, and players saw this and knew it was good.
On the second day MMORPG.com teamed up with RB to give their loyal members a chance to participate in the late beta testing and there was much rejoicing.
Time passed and the contest winner were eventually named. Then began the great waiting. Redbedlam came to the rescue and provided emails saying that soon sometihng would happen and there was again much rejoicing.
Then after a time more waiting was done, presently RB came to the hallowed ground of the MMORPG.com RV forums and spake unto the faithful with soothing words that "in a couple of days we will have the coomercial test page up and thou shalt be able to log in by pressing the great MMORPG.com button" And there was much rejoicing.
Then began the second great waiting...
And now you know.

I thought I'd pop by and update you guys as much as I could. I've received word (me being in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />US and KFR being in the UK means communication is a bit difficult) that KFR is up to his forehead in preparation for something big. He is working on both techy and business details at the moment and since there is only one of him, he's stretched a bit thin. He's knocking down the issues one by one and shall emerge from behind his monitor victorious.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Sorry about the long wait, but in the end, it will be worth it.

Days Delay
You're wrong. It is "days' delay".
