They're only 6 years behind schedule. I guess I was wrong and this is a well managed company with realistic design goals and resource management. They're definitely going to stick to the new timeline, and nothing will be pushed back.
It is breathtaking how people repeat a mantra of "expected delivery Nov 2014" from the Kickstarter page which was already obsolete before the end of the Kickstarter in Nov 2012.
As if the naysayers ignore everything since day 2 of the Kickstarter in 2012.
Have fun
It is breathtaking how people ignore the reality of Roberts saying the game would release in 2015 or your money back. And the subsequent feature creep that they obviously had no idea how they'd deliver.
Remember hothead Roberts saying that Star Marine would be 'out in two weeks, a month tops!'?
Hey, I know you enjoy the process and what's available in SC now, but the Emperor has left a trail of promises and pyschobabble at least 7 years long. A lot of folks will be gone before the game reaches the fabled '100 systems on release'.
Hopefully in 3.9x you won't get killed by having coffee spilled on you.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
I have only a modest interest in playing this game, but I hope it releases and is a huge success. Because if it doesn't, I am going to get carpal tunnel typing "I told you so."
Of course, it will look like a DDOS attack from all the other forum members also typing "I told you so."
You'll be fine.
I've been typing "I told you so" for about 5 years now to the doom-sayers and their laughing at their collapse theories while Star Citizen keeps getting all the features they say would be impossible while new backers keep joining the servers while breaking funding records year.

Bolded part is completely made up by you, dunno if consciously since you've been clearly drinking from the SC Hatorade spiel for some time now.
As for changes to release dates, we've been through this before many many times. Estimates are just that. You just have to get your head out of the SC hatebucket and look around the other kickstarted mmo's to notice most of them also miss their estimates.

I can tell, I just don't see the difference really. I mean a regular capital investor gets pay back with interest, shares, etc. What are crowdfunders getting? A ship? Big deal.
That is what crowdfunders do not see.
A ship? Seriously you lost any reputation by caricaturing 3.8.2 playable now not counting quarterly patch to come and Beta (SQ42) by end of the year.
while new backers keep joining the servers while breaking funding records year.
I don't care about that. They have already raised enough money where they should to be able to make and finish the game. I don't get SC supporters, who boast about funds raised. So what?

The thing is - how much money will it take to finish this game? SC has raised enough money to develop software and publish 4 Pixar movies (Toy Story franchise, for example). That is an insane about amount of money to raise w/o ANY END POINT IN SIGHT.
That some people ignore it and claim that there is no "end point in sight" is quite telling in its own right ...
Have fun
Ok so what is the current projected release date for the main game? I clicked on your link and it seems not to make that clear. Call me dumb. What is the release date, that a dumb person can understand?

When its ready ... now, that was easy, was it not ?
If you are looking for an official, current release date ... there is no official date.
Which any person, even a "dumb person" can understand. The person may not like it, but i assume they can understand the concept of "no official date given".
And what is still left to do .. you see on the roadmap (link see above)
Which means ... yes, there are still quite a few things to do. And 500 people are hard at work doing it. They let us know in great detail what they are doing, through multiple channels. And we backers give them the necessary resources to do their work (well).
while new backers keep joining the servers while breaking funding records year.

What you or I care is irrelevant. Personal whims have no place in game development unless you are the CEO/ProjectLead.
The continuous statement of record breaking funding is pertinent considering that for years we've had to endure trolling haters and cynics in general basing their doomsday theories on CIG running out of money.
The game is actively being developed nicely, there's a playable version that already provides visuals and gameplay that you cant find in any other title. Also, it will be ready when it's ready.
So, just making sure I don't miss it. $300 or so million dollars raised (and counting). 500 employees supposedly working. And no release date, correct?
That's great. Enjoy the game.

Yeah that's how it works when you have time and money, you first make the game and only when your satisfied with your product you announce a release date.
Acting like there aren't other games who've been in development for longer than Star Citizen and without a release date is being deliberately obtuse.
I have only a modest interest in playing this game, but I hope it releases and is a huge success. Because if it doesn't, I am going to get carpal tunnel typing "I told you so."

Try this quote on for size:
"In March, on a stage at PAX East, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games Chris Roberts said it would be released in three weeks. Five months later in August, he told GamersNexus that it was “a matter of three, four, maybe five weeks.” Today, more than a year on, Star Marine still isn’t in players’ hands."
That some people ignore it and claim that there is no "end point in sight" is quite telling in its own right ...

Still says no release date. I rest my point. They have been pushing things back for years and after a while, it seems all they want to do is take money w/o producing a game (and an alpha test is just that a test NOT A BLOODY GAME).

Or you could listen to the gaming journalists that were on site and were quite impressed.
Those that report that the team is hard at work. Producing impressive results.
Remember that BBC "Star Citizen Scandal" story recently ? It turned out to be one big promo video.
Some things "seem" to you. Other people ... like gaming journalists that actually have been THERE ... "seem" to have a different opinion.
But i guess you do not really care about their opinion. You obviously have much better sources of information, have much deeper insight into the true state of development of this project. Amirite?

But they have no release date, they have been pushing things back for years and the current client is an Alpha one. Come on man, nothing about that "seems," don't be dishonest here.
Besides, there have also been plenty of critical articles by gaming journalists about SC, they "seem" to have a different opinion. But I guess you do not really care about their opinion. You obviously have much better sources of information, have much deeper insight into the true state of development of this project. Amirite?
And don't give me a canned " this is what the fans wanted" response. Because the problem with that is that everybody that does not agree is automatically not a fan according to some weird logic. Only yes sayers apply please.
I like SC, I play SC. I also think that it is horribly managed, completely overtime, has been given a card blanche for some weird reason, is way too expensive, isn't the saviour of computer gaming in any way shape or form, and is being made by a complete douche. I still like it but when Roberts takes a crap in my living room I don't take my clothes off to smear his feces all over my body while thanking him for giving me what I want. THAT is how many of these posts come across.

>>> Besides, there have also been plenty of critical articles by gaming
journalists about SC, they "seem" to have a different opinion. >>>
I read most of these critical articles.
What struck me most is
a) most of the authors were not gaming journalists, just someone voicing his personal opinion piece via a medium like "Forbes" etc.
b) almost none of these authors was on-site talking to the team. Because those that did uniformly wrote "It is a challenge, it takes long, but they are working hard...."
c) most of these articles just keep regurgitating information that other similar articles claimed, with little fact checking with the developer team
>>>> But I guess you do not really care about their opinion.>>>>
I evaluated these opinions. Considered most of them shaky, based on bad journalism style and lazy fact checking.
>>>> You obviously have much better sources of information, have much deeper
insight into the true state of development of this project. Amirite? >>>>
Yes. It is based on true gaming journalism (like gaming magazines established over decades, with journalists that know hot air from hard working teams) and following most news coming from the developer team itself (which is quite a lot actually, including in depth articles in Jump Point magazine).
>>> I like SC, I play SC >>>
Good. Me too. I seem to enjoy it more than you do. You might want to consider playing it with a good team of good friends.
a) most of the authors were not gaming journalists, just someone voicing his personal opinion piece via a medium like "Forbes" etc.
I know you are a serious person who doesn't mean to be funny. But this is funny.
Forbes has been a respected journal since 1917.
Until a few years ago.
When they started to accept opinion pieces without fact checking. Just to fill the ever growing demand for online content.
And i am not talking only about Star Citizen.
Forbes articles are now in a wide range of quality. Their usual quality of decades ... down to the downright shitty fake-news gossip dribble.
Have fun
PS:
A comment about Forbes (from "The Guardian")
".... Forbes had clearly used the Times to help create an illusion. In fact,
illusion is what the Forbes business had largely become. Forbes was once
the business magazine of the high-trouser country-club set, a rock of
free marketeering and bible of mid-size company executives, worth
several billion dollars. Then, along with other business magazines after
the dotcom crash, it began slipping. And slipping....."

Competing publications saying their competitors are bad at journalism!? No way!
I think the only real distinction that can be made between articles is The one between positive ones and critical ones. The positive ones get applause, those writers are in the know. How do you know? Because they affirm what you want, they understand and are on board.
The critical ones get slandered and their sources/writers/motives discredited, they don’t understand, write for the wrong people. How can they not? If they had the right information they would be positive too.
Its a cheap tactic and makes sure you are only surrounded by affirmative sources and can ignore/make fun of/overrule others, you are right and they are not. You become your own echo chamber and lose a lot of objectivity. Your change in tone and attitude over the years is unfortunate proof of that.
As for me enjoying the game, I definitely am and a I am no space sim lover by any means. I think they are building something great which still has a long way to go but most definitely isn’t a scam. Everything surrounding it though? The endless barraging of people who hold different opinions with endless, meaningless numbers like the amount of money raised or the total number of people working on it? The mocking and snarky attitude of many? The ridiculous hyperbole? The high fiving and bum fondling when somebody is shut up or shut down? I can do without all of that. Its just a game, without a release date and features that have been pushed back for years, why can’t that simply be acknowledged?
