Acting like there aren't other games who've been in development for longer than Star Citizen and without a release date is being deliberately obtuse.

Tell me about one with this much money invested in it that could not even articulate a projected release date after this many years?

Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 for example.

We have no idea how much money Ubisoft has invested into Beyond Good & Evil 2, but it's likely lot less than Star Citizen. Ubisoft usually doesn't make that expensive games, and Beyond Good & Evil 2 is unlikely to be exception.

I think that the only game development project that might be more expensive than Star Citizen is atm GTA 6.

Considering the time that a sequel as been talked about (2007) an that they have been working and reworking the game since then while putting the expenses under R&D it's easy to assumes it has costed a hefty sum.

The Last of Us 2 has been in development since around 2014 with multiple delays, severe staff crunch and concurrent money injections from Sony to keep development going.

Business as usual in cutting edge business of game development.

Ubisoft is developing other games besides Beyond Good & Evil, and we know its devs spent time at least with Rayman Legends. Business as usual in big game dev studios is that they shuffle their resources around.

As far as we know The Last of Us 2 has really been in active development for the whole time, so it's another game besides GTA 6 that might have cost even more than Star Citizen.

Common misconception about SCs development cost that people look at the whole amount of money andm it "that's how much they spent on developing this game. False.

In this case the crowdfunded money payed first of all the building up of 5 studios fully with all the infrastructure, computers, software licenses, etc.
Plus it pays for the development of 2 games not just one. So SC itself is far from being the most expensive game.

    >>>> features that have been pushed back for years, why can’t that simply be acknowledged? >>>

Oh, it HAS been acknowledged many times.

The CONCLUSIONS drawn from that fact differ. Backers like me see and read about the technical challenges that needed to be overcome, the setbacks, but also the triumphs, the "WOW!" moments. We acknowledge that such things happen, comment on it in hundredthousands of posts, and ultimately continue to support a project we think has merit. Until it is finished. When is it finished ? When it is ready.

Others declare it as signs of scams, ponzi schemes, corruption, embezzlement, mafia money laundering and what-not. As signs of the irrefutable doom and collapse of the Star Citizen project. That this collapse - predicted since 2015 - is not coming any time soon has irked quite a few naysayers so much that they forgot all rules of conduct, getting themselves permabanned. In a lot of forums.

It has been said that i am just surrounding myself in an echo chamber bubble. The very fact of me posting here and reading information posted by critics is proof that this is not the case.

That "The Guardian" writes bad things about "Forbes" .... IMHO this is more than simply badmouthing the competition. Personally i think it describes the development of publications like "Forbes" quite well ... that the need for insane amounts of online content has inevitably forced them to lower their standards. They need quantity, no matter the quality.
