Hey Pix, how are you? I have avoided posting here for some time (I usually read and don't post) because well, I really didn't want to get involved. However, here we are all this time later and this garbage is still here on the forums. MMORPG.com has gained a repuation in the MMO world (its forums at least) as being a home for displaced trolls. Meaning a home for posters who have been banned from offical game sites.
I don't know if this perception is a reality or not. I mean, here I am and I am not banned from anyplace currently .
My question to you is kinda simple. Why are you posting this crap here on a fansite? These are legal matters that should be delt with in legal circles and not in some public forum. Seriously! What can any of these people, supporters or haters of you, do to help your case? Nothing. Its just opinions, speculation and crap.
Comming here and pleading your case really doesn't give you much credibilty. Also bragging about 'algorithms' you coded ten years ago for a modern cutting edge 3d graphics engine isn't all that impressive either. I think your doing more harm to your reputation than anything else. If you were a professional, perhaps you would know that such matters shouldn't be settled in forums such as these.
Do I believe your IP material was stolen? Well, to be honest, it doesn't matter what I or anyone else here thinks. Some of us are aware of certain contracts signed with professional companies that state that all intellectural properties created by the contracted become property of the contractor. I for one find this sickening because a retail company could claim rights if you created a cancer curing drug while you were employed by them. Even though the retail company (sells shoes) has nothing to do with bio medical interests. And if you started the research years before becoming employed by the company. Its a shady practice and I have known several to become victims due to it. IP rights are very hard to defend and its never a pretty or clean fight.
As for that engine the DnL uses that is so friggin amazing. Well, to be honest, its really not all that amazing. Sure the first dragon flight into the clouds is unlike anything ever seen in an MMO, but woopiee.
Pix, I'm sure you feel justified in your arguments and conflicts here. And well hey, thats fine. However, is it really in your best interest to air your dirty laundry here? I mean, the public doesn't actually have a right to know? It's not them you have to convince, its the courts. So how about you quit posting here in this lame public forum and get to business. If your as talented as you claim, get your ass back to work and bring us that ultimate MMO we are all waiting for. Or at least do your part in it. Sue if you must, fight if you must, but fight were the victories count. Not where you can simply gather a bunch of fans that really have no concept of what is really going on.

This situation is the epitome of the DNL gang insofar as it shows just how slimy and sleazy the Farlan gang is and just how far they have taken this farce to the public. Its not that ppl are claiming "their right to know" at all...they are claiming their support for the man who created. Period. Simple.

I have never been banned from one either. I've been on the internet since the early 90's and have never been banned. I come here because I resepct the opinions of the people here. I can come here and know pretty safely if a game sucks or not. It saved me money becaue I didn't buy DnL. Don't you wish you would have found us sooner? You could have saved some money.

Anyways, very interesting read and alot of good links to prove your case (unlike IK that just wants his 5 minutes of fame). Your work is amazing man, keep it up! My fav thing about DnL was always the dragonrides and using the winds on my glider.

But hey _Pix_, I have a question for you. When you met the heads of Farlan/NP3, what were the first impressions they gave you? Did they give you a line like they did the rest of us? Which pulled the wool over our eyes for a little while I might add. Or did you figure them out right away and that's why you left the project in midstream?
I also read that you were with Infogrames for awhile. People who have produced quality games. Several of which myself and my daughter have played.

First impression was they had a lot of money which is good when your goal is to develop such a game. DnL was a very ambitious project and I must admit it was quite interesting and I thought it was a good occasion to make VWT known to the MMORPG sector. Besides, they had a solid rep on this island, which is a small world in the middle of Indian Ocean.
So, it was really fine with me that they had such money to put on marketing expenses: we were supposed to reach an agreement to sell and communicate upon VWT (so V-world at the time). But they took the excuse of the clash with my former partner and the ensuing trial not to want to communicate on V-world/VWT at the beginning.
Now that I have taken the time to read the many articles and all that was put forward in the forums and interviews, I am quite convinced that they didn't want so much to develop a game, but that they wanted all the possibilities that the technology offered in terms of leveraging money, and this is what they are doing right now : they have been searching for the right people to help them finding markets and projects in Asia or Reunion Island to get funded on(the local University even works with them...). Dark and Light is just a minor project for them, except if they succeed in selling in China, but I am pretty sure they got many many other projects in mind.
And yes, I was among the old-timers at Infogrames: when I entered in 1988 we were about 40, when I left in 1996 we were about 1000. So you probably played games I worked on (Amstrad, Atari ,Amiga, SEGA, Nintendo, PC etc, adventure, arcade, simulation, etc ).
FYI Paret and Nazaret were taken on board several years after I was. They co-founded NPCube because I offered them to meet the Reunion Island people. They had set up Gamesquad company with L.Salmeron and H.Chardot a few years earlier (http://www.mobygames.com/company/gamesquad), and it was quite the right time for them to embark on another project, since Gamesquad went bankrupt in 2002. Chardot is now working on Reunion Island too. Little world, isn'it ? Of course, they both knew ( http://www.the-junkyard.net/interviews.php?action=viewinterview&id=39) and still know I am the inventor of the tech, but I doubt they declare that publicaly now. DnL's forums are "private" now : you can no more react upon what's written as an outsider now, e.g.a well-intentionned poster mentionning the fact that nobody has ever seen VWT running with several on-line players...which is quite surprising for a tech (still) used in an MMORPG... Still here. Still recruiting.) Kind of strange that AD thanked him for the info. Maybe he's more involved than just being the leader of the oldest light guild in Ganereth. Or perhaps that's enough for him.

And Mafate 2.0 is still making use of VWT and is still in utter violation of my IP and the copyright law attached to VWT. They are just counting on the lenght and the complications of getting a case in IP matters really to the point of trial. Counting on time to beat me.
_Pix_...So it is something that Farlan has been offering for quite awhile. Sorry, I missed that. They said that it would be implemented ingame in september. This was in July I believe. They failed to mention what year then said the reporter misunderstood or some such. Are you saying that if they come out with it before you win your case outright then they will be able to keep mafate 2.0? Would that mean that they will have rights to VWT through the mafate 2.0 engine? Or are they simply waiting to see if you lose. You said mafate 2.0 is a bunch of bs. If it is, then what do they stand to gain if mafate 2.0 is a work of fiction. You've probably explained this all before and I apologize.

If I'm risking anything by asking Pix these questions, I'm sure that he can tell me himself. Are you his lawyer or something? I'm a person that likes to see the badguys lose and the goodguys win. Pix has already mentioned alot about the legalities and I'm sure he's not compromising any touchy issues by responding to my questions. There is lotsa conjecture and speculation of what Farlan bloodsuckers have, can and will do. What it all means legally to _Pix_ are a few sensative areas of which it wouldnt be very prudent for him to speculate on in a public forum is all I am saying. The motivations of Farlan azzhats -- well, there are a few select ones which we all know LOL . Prolly with the arrogance and total lack of ethical behavior on Farlans part, there are prolly a ton more.

If you know any more of the facts or the do's and don'ts then please display them and I won't have to bother Pix anymore. But hey _Pix_, I have a question for you. When you met the heads of Farlan/NP3, what were the first impressions they gave you? Did they give you a line like they did the rest of us? Which pulled the wool over our eyes for a little while I might add. Or did you figure them out right away and that's why you left the project in midstream?
I also read that you were with Infogrames for awhile. People who have produced quality games. Several of which myself and my daughter have played.

First impression was they had a lot of money which is good when your goal is to develop such a game. DnL was a very ambitious project and I must admit it was quite interesting and I thought it was a good occasion to make VWT known to the MMORPG sector. Besides, they had a solid rep on this island, which is a small world in the middle of Indian Ocean.
So, it was really fine with me that they had such money to put on marketing expenses: we were supposed to reach an agreement to sell and communicate upon VWT (so V-world at the time). But they took the excuse of the clash with my former partner and the ensuing trial not to want to communicate on V-world/VWT at the beginning.
Now that I have taken the time to read the many articles and all that was put forward in the forums and interviews, I am quite convinced that they didn't want so much to develop a game, but that they wanted all the possibilities that the technology offered in terms of leveraging money, and this is what they are doing right now : they have been searching for the right people to help them finding markets and projects in Asia or Reunion Island to get funded on(the local University even works with them...). Dark and Light is just a minor project for them, except if they succeed in selling in China, but I am pretty sure they got many many other projects in mind.
And yes, I was among the old-timers at Infogrames: when I entered in 1988 we were about 40, when I left in 1996 we were about 1000. So you probably played games I worked on (Amstrad, Atari ,Amiga, SEGA, Nintendo, PC etc, adventure, arcade, simulation, etc ).
FYI Paret and Nazaret were taken on board several years after I was. They co-founded NPCube because I offered them to meet the Reunion Island people. They had set up Gamesquad company with L.Salmeron and H.Chardot a few years earlier (http://www.mobygames.com/company/gamesquad), and it was quite the right time for them to embark on another project, since Gamesquad went bankrupt in 2002. Chardot is now working on Reunion Island too. Little world, isn'it ?
Of course, they both knew ( http://www.the-junkyard.net/interviews.php?action=viewinterview&id=39) and still know I am the inventor of the tech, but I doubt they declare that publicaly now. You can read an interesting e-mail Nazaret sent in 2002 on www.pourieux.com

Well, I can't really say that nothing is coming from the "left field"currently, when I see what has has been written on the French forums lately . See... DnL's forums are "private" now : you can no more react upon what's written as an outsider now, e.g.a well-intentionned poster mentionning the fact that nobody has ever seen VWT running with several on-line players...which is quite surprising for a tech (still) used in an MMORPG... One more trying to imply VWT is not used in Mafate/DnL.

So is this scenario correct _Pix_? DnL couldn't possibly come out with mafate2.0 at this time? Wouldn't that violate copywrite laws? Or at least until the legalities of VWT is cleared up. I would think that they couldn't devise another new engine with VWT. Especially since you would have absolutely no involvement with this one. If that's the case then Farlan/Npcube is offering another blatent lie to the DnL community.
Also, lord Feste knows perfectly well who you are. Sounds like he was throwing up a smokescreen to someone who was inquiring about your involvement with the DnL project. He is a long time defender of DnL.(He does complain quite a bit though as well.) But he is continuously trying to recruit new people into his guild.(Mystical Awakenings, Oldest light guild in DnL. Still here. Still recruiting.) Kind of strange that AD thanked him for the info. Maybe he's more involved than just being the leader of the oldest light guild in Ganereth. Or perhaps that's enough for him.

3 bailiffs and I verified that what they call Mafate 2.0 is still making use of VWT last June. Mafate 2.0 is pure BS. See, they communicated on Mafate 2.0 since 2005... Mafate 2.0 is nothing else but Mafate including their "optimizations". And Mafate 2.0 is still making use of VWT and is still in utter violation of my IP and the copyright law attached to VWT. They are just counting on the lenght and the complications of getting a case in IP matters really to the point of trial. Counting on time to beat me.

_Pix_...So it is something that Farlan has been offering for quite awhile. Sorry, I missed that. They said that it would be implemented ingame in september. This was in July I believe. They failed to mention what year then said the reporter misunderstood or some such. Are you saying that if they come out with it before you win your case outright then they will be able to keep mafate 2.0? Would that mean that they will have rights to VWT through the mafate 2.0 engine? Or are they simply waiting to see if you lose. You said mafate 2.0 is a bunch of bs. If it is, then what do they stand to gain if mafate 2.0 is a work of fiction. You've probably explained this all before and I apologize.

I think we should leave the "coud of" "would of" "ifs" and legal conjecture to the actual legal workings. Other than showing how Farlan.NPfleece is so blatantly trying to cover it all up, what legally could happen really shouldnt be discussed in an open public , especially by Pix himself. Wouldnt be very smart of him now would it?

There is lotsa conjecture and speculation of what Farlan bloodsuckers have, can and will do. What it all means legally to _Pix_ are a few sensative areas of which it wouldnt be very prudent for him to speculate on in a public forum is all I am saying. The motivations of Farlan azzhats -- well, there are a few select ones which we all know LOL . Prolly with the arrogance and total lack of ethical behavior on Farlans part, there are prolly a ton more.

Dude! I agree with Cho LOL. I think what she is trying to say is....this entire thread , as well as a few others on this board, tell the whole thing. If Pix goes into it any more , jeez, even as a non legal person myself, I would have to say whoa, back up and think out these questions and answers lately.
