As someone who hates eve you seem to be bringing it unwanted attention :P Try starting a flame in the eve specific forum, you'll piss more people off and only fanbois and trolls that are already thinking of the game read that forum.

My guess is the steep learning curve?

IMO the only thing EVE has going for them is graphics.
Everyone who plays EVE Online is so blinkered all they can say is "EVE EVE EVE! GRAPHICS GRAPHICS GRAPHICS!"
When IMO the game is a huge grind for the right skills and money to buy more skills to upgrade them which takes months and then to save more ISK and buy a ship worth a damn.
Just not my game.

Let's just play along with the OP:
Eve is the s4x0rs cuz as a n00b you cant catch up with the veterans !
Eve sucks because the fanbois who play it insist on posting in
virtually every topic how Eve is better than all other games.
Eve sucks because it's a cult where once you start playing you are brainwashed
into thinking you have some sort of higher maturity level and high level of intelligence.
Eve sucks because the people playing think that anyone who wants arcade style
action is an idiot.
But most of all Eve sucks because the one interesting geographical
feature (planets) is unusable and pointless.
And exactly what ship do you need to be flying for it to be worth a damn? Contrary to most other MMO's out bigger is not always better in EVE. Each ship has a role and it is useful in that role, there is no one ship or type of ship that is the be-all-end-all of EVE.
I guess it's hard to shake that assumption since so many other MMO's are so gear dependant though.
