I enjoy EVE because of the tactical PvP and the diversity of ships, modules, and setups - you never know what you're going to run into. That guy who looks like a carebear NPCer could, in fact, be one of the best PvPers in the game trying to bait you into attacking him. In contrast, the guy camping the gate in a 200-million ISK HAC could be a carebear with no clue how to fit his ship properly for PvP, much less fly it. Tactics and intelligent fittings rule the day, and those who fail at either usually get shot up pretty quickly in PvP.
I also enjoy the graphics - they're a nice backdrop for the game.
I freely admit, however, that EVE is not the best PvE game out there. Missions are repetitive, as is NPCing in belts. That said, I don't play the game for the PvE aspect, so it doesn't bother me much.
In regards to EVE being boring, it depends on what you're doing. If you're out PvPing actively and not just camping a gate, it can be very, very exciting. In fact, a lot of people get an adrenaline rush from PvP due to the real risk involved; unlike other games, the death penalty in EVE is quite harsh - when your ship gets blown up, it's gone. If you're running missions, mining, or NPCing, EVE can be boring, depending on your tastes.
To the person who said you can't actually fly your ship, I'd recommend actually finishing the tutorial next time. You'll notice there's an option to manually pilot your ship by double-clicking in space in the direction you want to go.
Anyway, EVE isn't for everyone - it's a niche game, and only appeals to certain interests. Instead of trying to appeal to everyone, CCP tries to appeal to a specific market segment and has been succeeding admirably.

EVE sux bcuz u can't land on teh planets. I tihnk EVE wuld b sooo much cooler if u culd land on teh planets, and like, mebbe each planet wuld be a different MMO! So like u could land on teh WOW planet and get out of ur ship and be like yo dawg wzup, ha ha u got a horse and I gotz a spaceship! And then drop bombs on Ironforge, horde4life!

bigger is not always better in EVE. Each ship has a role and it is useful in that role, there is no one ship or type of ship that is the be-all-end-all of EVE.
Thats why 0.0 BS drop 1mil and sanshas servants drop 1k. Because 1mil is not better than 1k

Dont bother insisting that there are other things to do than hunt npcs since a decent mining barge costs 30mil, takes 2 months of skills & even in a mining specialised cruiser fitted with the best of the best of the best youre lucky to bank 3mil/day unless you intend on going into a pvp area.

Who cares how much isk 0.0 BS rats give you compared to 1.0 frigate rats? That has nothing to do with the effectiveness of player controlled ships. Hell I know players that can take out those 1.0 million rats easily in ships smaller than a BS.
If you want those nice bounties so bad in empire you can just do level 4 missions and you can kill all the BS's you want, just don't expect the same rewards if you're not willing to face the same risks as in lowsec/0.0.
Either way at the end of the day the fastest way to make money is to bring friends, what one person can do alone many people can do better and faster, that is afterall the whole point of an MMO.

im pretty sure that bringing a whole gang of people is 'bigger and better' than playing the game alone. Eve is a game where if you want something good - you get a small army together or grind til you cry.

Haha. I played EVE for a few months, actually. Interesting game, lots of neat ideas in it, and I admire CCP, but it just wasn't my thing. Required far too much dedication and organization, I'd rather just log into CoV and punch things in the face with my Brute

I've played and left EVE a few times. It's a very emersive complex game. Very Dark as well. The inherent flaw I just cant get past is the learning system. You will never be able to catch up skill wise to a player that has been playing longer than yourself. Join now and you'll be a noob and remain a noob to a large part of the playerbase.
The community is great and generally very helpfull. I dont know how many times during my first month of gameplay some veteran player would watch me chugging along in a substandard ship after being podded trying to rebuild to the point of using decent equipment again to find some unasked for ISK wired to me. Then again there are griefers just like in any other PvP based MMo. pod you just because you exited a stargate on "their" turf. Doesnt matter that You're an obvious newbie flying a baby frigate.
Good game, but feels too much like a second life at times. I work enough during the day, I'd rather not come home and get right back at it when I get home. I like to play eve on a casual basis, but eve isnt a casual game as far as skill progression. You need to make an actual time investment.
Some will love, others will hate, but ultimately to each their own
Players quit EVE, even those highly skilled vets. Also if you specialize in one area you can become just as skilled as some vet with 25mil sp. My char is nearly 18 months old and I've wasted 3 year old vets, because I specialized. Also my char is in the top 10% when it comes to the amount of sp she has because vets quit, no-one plays forever even in EVE!
As for the killing, that's what makes EVE fun in my opinion. I could never stand that accept duel crap in other carebear MMOs, with losers that had a "/end duel" macro mapped out to the keyboard incase they were about to get deathblowed (even though there was nothing to lose!).
But if EVE's not for you then that's ok, I'll just sacrifice a chicken to the DEVs and do a voodoo blood chant whilst drowning a kitten

That's not what I was told. I was told you sacrafice a former Earth and Beyond player everytime someone says something bad about Eve. Penn and Teller did a BS show in it in fact.
