It's really not an uncommon thing for a developer to send its fans out to vote in a thing like this. It's free advertising for them, and generally whomever is hosting the poll wants those eyeballs checking out the site. Maybe some will stay. I'm cynical enough to think that's the whole reason for doing it most of the time.
Eve's like most everything in so much as some people love it and some people don't.
It's unlike anything else in the manner it has started-slow and grown steadily over time. Everyone else shoots straight up, peaks, and glides back toward a sequel. That's a pretty ineat trick.
Regarding the original post in this thread, sometimes I get to feeling that WoW and Second Life are the only MMOs journalists can name, so they do, in the same sentence. Just one to three times a week, and without a hint of realization that those things are unlike one another by a lot.

all point out that WoW is a better game then EVE, yet these so called "readers choice" awards keep pointing to EVE. in fact, even the most loyal EVE fans said they would be very surprised if EVE would be nominated for "best PVE". But EVE got nominated for best PVE, "Beating" titles that are fully BASED on PVE, such as Everquest 2 and Final Fantasy XI.

If you care so much about all that and are so sure that the only reason wow didn't win last time is that no one knew go post? our "sticky" was brought up by a player(as i've already said). this is the same thing i said hours ago and after all your squirming we are back to the same place. congradulations you've wasted an hour or two from both our lives just to end up on the wrong end up the stick right back where we started.

shh i've already been through that with him dont' let him hear you and wiggle away again. while fighting on the forums is a waste of time if you chose to partake in it it's like playing chess on jello. often the other side moves peices that don't actually exist to try and further back up his point or tries to beat the jello around to make the field shift and wiggle so you lose track of the game at hand. this is at the end stage that sadly takes hours most often where he's out of jello and his pretend peices are now knocked from the game board. Anything that he could argue with that isn't in responce to what i hope i will be my final post will allow him more jello to wiggle and a new player to shift to in an attempt to not come out at the short end of the stick no matter what actually happens to the game.
Yesterday on the eve forums some guy somehow ended up trying to fight with me over weather or not mercs would get killed more or less often with the support of us troops that arent there if low sec was iraq....most impressive i must say.
Then another poster said

no where in the entire post had anyone made mention of a barge.
i've been fighting everything from dragons to space pirates on the forums for years when i felt strongly enough about the topic and it often ends up providing many good laughs along the way.

But this also doesn't serve "better vs. worse" comparisons. Eve's old 4-hour tutorial, complicated complexity, and brutal PvP penalties would turn off most WoW fans. But neither can they be labeled as bad, when those are the very sorts of things that Eve fans like about their game. And why should they care if WoW players don't enjoy the things they like about Eve, anyway, eh?
Clearly, the survey isn't useful to determine popularity nor to measure quality. There must another purpose being served...
Maybe it's just a team vs. team game itself. Not WoW vs. Eve but WoW players vs Eve players (et al).

You're not the only wow player and we can't sticky either. for loving wow so much i don't belive you have no account try again.
And the only thing on the main website is back in the news somewhere which no one reads. and even if the entire eve active playerbase saw it more people would see a post on the wow main thread within a few hours than THE ENITRE ACTIVE POPULATION OF EVE.

I undrstand your point completly. you believe that the only reason eve wins and wow doesn't is because our mods grabed someones post and made it a sticky. one again go make a wow post(you or someone else) and leave it there through the forums primetime if you feel so strongly that this is the case. if they care enough it will stay on the front page(once again as i've shown) and if not bump it a few times yourself instead of bitching here?
Who knows wow mods might even sticky it like ours did?

Which as i've stated i'm glad off. eve is not for everyone and i would not enjoy having everyone play eve

go make your own post that's where ours came from. you can make it someone else can make it. if the players care it will stay on top if not bump it a few times. the mods might even give you a sticky of your own. go find out?
