Has anyone noticed that ever since this rediculous video was posted, Darkfall hype seems to have sunk in the last few days? I don't know when Darkfall is going to be released or when Open Beta or even a reasonably sized Closed Beta is going to start (it is clear the closed beta is extremely small right now, practically the size of an Alpha test), and I really think the vicious fights over it all is stupid (on both sides).
The existence of Darkfall is on the fanboys' side now, but the argument of Darkfall being any better (or even as "good"...or rather, how bad they are not...as they all stink on a non-comparative level) than all the other MMORPGs out right now is very much on the side of the Darkfall haters at this time. Does that mean it will actually be bad? No. But no above-average gameplay mechanics or features has yet to be demonstrated in any way, and I think a lot of people realized that with the release of this silly video.

There seems to be two different meanings being used when speaking of the word "sandbox." For example, Darkfall's *concept* was interesting to me because I thought it was a sandbox game, and by sandbox, I mean being able to shape, affect, and influence the world and its inhabitants any way you wish, as well as be affected by the world and its inhabitants any way they wish...with only minor limitaions both ways to make sure no one is permenantly suppressed by others. So basically, I was interested in seeing a few, though certainly was not expecting all, features that would be part of this:
Creating a guild, building a structure, voting someone into office, chopping down a tree, setting up a camp, taking control of a squad of NPCs (or merely hiring some guards), setting up a shop, crafting any item which is placed on the world, setting up a mining area, creating a physical trap to ambush someone, etc...
Now i really wasn't expecting even one of these features to be in this video...but I thought at least we could see continuity at all, showing their so-called crappy interface (that has already been announced will be fixed, so why do they feel the need to hide the old one) even with the simplest things...and not a bunch of jumping around every few seconds...
But, now I have realized...one half of the community (my half) is saying "sandbox" in the way i mentioned above. The other half is meaning sandbox as in...well...literally a sandbox. An empty world where you are free to run around on different assortments of sand and do nothing. That guy earlier hit the nail on the head, "Seinfield of games."
Hopefully, the Darkfall devs believe in the other sandbox definition as *partially,* though far from entirely, came into reality from Raph Koster's original SWG (from description, i never played it, was waiting for bug fixes and a real GCW that never came before CU and NGE).
P.S. Yes, absolutely, the game will fail with the current horrible graphics...a higher graphic budget that will actually make structures, camps, bases, politics, player-controlled NPCs, or any kind of player affect on the world, actually visible, and not transparent, is really important to me.

Its the fanbases kneejerk reaction. Anyone with doubts are trolls. They don't need any criteria other then that you have opinions different then theirs. Perhaps thats a over generalization on y part but i'd say that it fits for at least 25% of the fans that post here.
Not aimed at you Ripper but I always find it funny when the rabid fanbase thinks a smaller player base is a good thing.(small playerbase FTW !) Sure keep telling everyone with any doubts to leave. The game will do just great with you and the other 100 rabid fansbois. Sure makes for one hige but empty world, and who will the fans gank they just told everyone thats not their friend to leave?
Vanguard fans already tried that route and guess what, it didn't work so well. I'm sure Aventurine will love fans telling most of its potential customers to get lost because they are a "Unwanted" / "Burden".
Its pretty much like I've said before the rabid fans do much more damage to the game they love then any trolls. Potential players may read a troll post saying the games vaproware but that won't stop them from trying it when the game goes live. Personally, I'm pretty new to the Darkfall thing. It sounds promising, but there's very little actual news about a product that's allegedly going live this month. I was hoping to see something really cool in the video, but didn't. Frankly, what I saw was the Seinfeld of game videos - a video about "nothing". It's disappointing to somebody who wants to see more and know more. Yes, I know it was created and edited by a third party, but it showed so little that it was essentially worthless. Why did they bother to put it out at all?

There seems to be two different meanings being used when speaking of the word "sandbox." For example, Darkfall's *concept* was interesting to me because I thought it was a sandbox game, and by sandbox, I mean being able to shape, affect, and influence the world and its inhabitants any way you wish, as well as be affected by the world and its inhabitants any way they wish...with only minor limitaions both ways to make sure no one is permenantly suppressed by others. So basically, I was interested in seeing a few, though certainly was not expecting all, features that would be part of this:
Creating a guild, building a structure, voting someone into office, chopping down a tree, setting up a camp, taking control of a squad of NPCs (or merely hiring some guards), setting up a shop, crafting any item which is placed on the world, setting up a mining area, creating a physical trap to ambush someone, etc...
Now i really wasn't expecting even one of these features to be in this video...but I thought at least we could see continuity at all, showing their so-called crappy interface (that has already been announced will be fixed, so why do they feel the need to hide the old one) even with the simplest things...and not a bunch of jumping around every few seconds...
But, now I have realized...one half of the community (my half) is saying "sandbox" in the way i mentioned above. The other half is meaning sandbox as in...well...literally a sandbox. An empty world where you are free to run around on different assortments of sand and do nothing. That guy earlier hit the nail on the head, "Seinfield of games."
Hopefully, the Darkfall devs believe in the other sandbox definition as *partially,* though far from entirely, came into reality from Raph Koster's original SWG (from description, i never played it, was waiting for bug fixes and a real GCW that never came before CU and NGE).
P.S. Yes, absolutely, the game will fail with the current horrible graphics...a higher graphic budget that will actually make structures, camps, bases, politics, player-controlled NPCs, or any kind of player affect on the world, actually visible, and not transparent, is really important to me.

Its the fanbases kneejerk reaction. Anyone with doubts are trolls. They don't need any criteria other then that you have opinions different then theirs. Perhaps thats a over generalization on y part but i'd say that it fits for at least 25% of the fans that post here.
Not aimed at you Ripper but I always find it funny when the rabid fanbase thinks a smaller player base is a good thing.(small playerbase FTW !

Vanguard fans already tried that route and guess what, it didn't work so well. I'm sure Aventurine will love fans telling most of its potential customers to get lost because they are a "Unwanted" / "Burden".
Its pretty much like I've said before the rabid fans do much more damage to the game they love then any trolls. Potential players may read a troll post saying the games vaproware but that won't stop them from trying it when the game goes live. On the other hand When the potential player reads from the fans that "Darkfall needs to get rid of the burden of too much following" it certainly makes them wonder if they want to play with hese kind of people. (doesn't much make for a warm and fuzzy community)

Ohh! A "Clean playerbase" made of only "True Gamers". I feel all tingly all over. Please do tell what you criteria for this clean playerbase of true gamers will be? Maybe bar anyone thats ever played WoW, or block anyone that ever doubted DF would be the greatest game ever?
Woe to the unclean for they will not be allowed to play in DF?

It seems to co-inside with about the time-frame that we learned a certain someone learned that they have friends in a certain Beta, and they became a bit more true to their name-sake. But that could just be a coincidence.

Anyone else notice the bow animations. Who shoots a bow like that? Not trying to dog the vid but just curious has anyone shot a bow like that? And was the arrow straight?
