I don't like how Tux was handled and I also don't like how DrDista and Anxiety were handled.....but I am not going to go blowup on the forums. It would do my community no good if I and other Senators just freaked out and essentially cause the rest of the senate program to go poof.
I think the whole point is, that if the Senator program did go poof, what would be the difference?
The SOE management didn't care much of the inputs from the old Correspondent system way back when, and as soon as it stopped being a cheerleading organization for the company line, the canned the whole thing. No difference here. It is hugely naive to think that anyone besides SOE management wields any influence over SWG or any other game. Hell, their own developers/dev team has next to no influence, as many former devs have styated in the past.
Both the old Correspondent system and the new Senator system are nothing more than a PR/Marketing gimmick, to make players think management gives a flying f*** about anything they want or say.
SOE doesn't care about their "community" either, I think we have seen how willing they were to throw that whole thing over the side before.
Although its not perfect, the current senate program DOES make a difference.
I can think of atleast five different bugs I Have personally forwarded to the developers, or brought to their attention in some way, that was fixed through an UPdate as a result. Additionally, they have gotten our feedback and input in most of the updates and its obvious our feedback influences their development (sometimes they frankly point it out that it made a difference in judgement on one aspect or another).
We would love to have MORE of an impact, but thats always going to be the case. The Development team has grown somewhat dependent on the Senate program to sift through the community desires and to funnel them in easy-to-read format. You remove the program, and I have a feeling it will be 90% harder for the community to get their wishes and desires known.

And the newfound "currant senate program DOES make a difference" is just that, newfound, Since Loche took over, I have seen more "listening" to the community/senate than the entire time since Helious. I watched Arcon's crusade over GU-3, or NJE, and seen what effect that had with Blixtev and his "tinfoil hats".
Imagine what the senate would have been like if Loche would have been the lead developer during all of Blixtev's time at the helm of the sinking ship. Maybe SWG wouldn't have been in the population spot it is today. Interesting enough that Loche has agreed to revisit Blixtev's faulty design in making "LS = pve (tank)" and thereby takeing 1/2 of the end game content out of reach, by design.
It would also seem that whatever strides that Loche is trying to make, the new community manager is trying just as hard to dismantle. He can have a major melt-down, with post after post belittling the community but TUX can't get by the filter? Do you actualy condone such practices? Perhaps it's not just us that needs to reexamine the senate and it's worth.
It is fine that the swg team gets some bugs fixed as a result of the senate. I wouldn't call that listening to the community though.
If the senate had some impact on something like the virtual card loot that looks like it gets more developer resources than the actual game does. This is just a guess, but I think people would rather have in game objectives that give rewards after completion than spending extra money on the hopes of getting a rare loot card. I bet that is a topic that isn't even allowed to be discussed. Am I correct?
Just looking at the recent actions of the swg team and it tells the whole story. Be a cheerleader or get removed. They don't care.
Yesterday servers were down for about 4 hours, to add a remote house packup and to make the death trooper tradable... except nobody cares about the remote house packup and the posters are still no trade and people are getting multiple nebulan-B ship holos. This is a continously repeated error devs has made in SWG over the years, this wasn't their first time.

Meh, screw the bugs. They pay QA people to find, replicate and fix the **edit**ing bugs. Some Senators think they really are "bug" finders...well...Red-Dwarf is, but SoE is too stupid to realize Red should be on their payroll. Being a bug reporter isn't worth my time...not as a paying customer. What possible enjoyment would I get in trying to find their bugs? I reported what got sent to me or what I found myself on TC/TCP...but it was most definitely not my 1st priority.
Hell, when I did try to "test" for bugs with the PvP Update, I asked to be promoted through the ranks to make sure the GCW Point payouts increased as they should...would they do it? Nah. So **edit** it. I do feel I gave finding bugs more effort than the help they gave me trying to find em.
The sheer number of bugs (and BIG bugs!) making their way to Live only exposes how far quality has dropped now that Hjal has been moved to a Dev position rather than QA. Whatever they have left for QA needs to be cleared out and they need to start fresh...because whoever is in there now obviously has NO CLUE what they should be looking for.
My guess is...while SWG may live on for years to come, the GCW Update will be too late and too little. They don't have enough of a base left to give a **edit** about it and what they do have they don't seem to give a crap about. The dirty little secret of Fan Faire's "GCW Panel" was that the slides that showed what they were working on was just a copy & paste from a post made in the Private Forum back in February or so (which was a direct copy & paste from a post in the Influencer forums before that). They didn't even take the time to re-type it. So please...don't hold your breath waiting for some killer GCW Update...SoE won't deliver it.

And...what about their plan to "fix" double socketed items? Wasn't that supposed to be a "priority"? Or what about Ent buffs/Buffs still disappearing after PvP deaths? Wasn't that supposed to be fixed in every one of the last major patches...for almost 4 months now?!

The devs pick and choose what issues they desire to tackle. I am sure some of those decisions are based on complexity, so the more difficult the problem, the more unlikely you will see a timely fix - if ever.
How does the virtual loot cards get handled on the senate forums? Is it a taboo topic? Maybe "asked and answered" and not to be brought up again or is it a topic still open for discussion?
Gauging the reaction to draakulls first friday feature it seems like players have some issues with the volume of loot cards and it would be something high on the list of senate discussion.

Ha ha, this reminded me of the thread I made in the Private Senate boards titled "Are we just a bunch of unpaid bug-monkeys". It was shortly after that, they then started the Game Updates to focus on professions. Yet the Game updates now have taken over the Chapters and are no longer going to focus on professions. This is sad because the game still very much needs separate teams for Chapters to introduce new content and Game Updates for profession specific changes and such.
Big deal - It's SOE after all. I can't believe people are still getting upset over this kind of thing. If you're going to play an SOE MMO you need to grow some thicker skin and just live with the fact that as a member of the game's community you have absolutely no say.
You know, statements like this used to really pi$$ me off, but to tell you the truth, I'm starting to agree with this mode of thought.
I LOVED Pre-CU. So much. But it is gone with no hope of returning (Emus are all well and good but it won't bring back the vibrant community).
SWG is truly dead (the latest vet trial proved that to me beyond a shadow of a doubt). Let Drakull and BadgerSmacker have it. I predict BS'll drop it the second TOR launches anyway.
My problem with that line of thinking is that if the type of behavior SOE constantly exhibits towards their customers is ignored, other companies may decide that it is okay to treat their customers in a similar manner. It isn't about players having a say in how the games are developed. It is about companies not treating their customers with outright contempt, as SOE constantly does.
I agree the best way to show SOE our disdain for their methods is to simply not subscribe to their games which most of us have done over the last few years. SOE can continue to treat people like crap if they like, you can't control that, but as we all continue to migrate away SOE will eventually run out of people to treat like crap. I actually have to admit each time I see a case of SOE being SOE I get a little smirk on my face, they haven't learned anything since the nge and SOE as a whole is slowly but surely becoming a non factor in the MMO world.
Draakull is an idiot. Took him less then a week to start rage posting lol...
After that and a few more rage posts a little while later, you could clearly see that his post quota got neutered. Did he even have a job before this?? I'm guessing not. He's just a gamer who suckered SOE into hiring him rofl. Elias was better then this guy.
i'm surprised he actually lasted till fan faire. I really don't see him making it to the end of the year.
With the Devs down another employee, since no one is replacing T2 as of yet. To me it’s a sign that things are slowing down over there.
I figured Kirstie was filling his role? She moved over from the EQ2 team around the same time that T2 was moved to the Producer role.
She did replace the Build Master tasks that T2 was doing, however he did a lot more than just that. And being the Producer will suck up his time away from being able to be hands on with the games code.
There are also some other lesser known Devs that have gone silent over the past year or so. Now this doesnt mean they left (or does it), but why hide from the game you support is my only thought.
They still havent replaced Elias's position either, so Draakuul , as much as people on here may not like him, has also been given a bigger plate, like that of T2.
Draakull got an assistant a few weeks ago, just about the time where Tux was booted I think (could be a few days before or after, I don't really know/remember). So that would likely be Elias replacement.
CancelAutoRun, and wasn't there another one too? - programmers that worked with Adeptstrain (adept was usually the most vocal on the forums of the 3, or was it 2?). CAR is still on the team but due to his role on the team its unlikely that he need alot of feedback from the players. He isn't a designer.
DevH and Shadowbrak has gone silent, but theyre still there too. I am not quite sure anymore but I believe DevH has been doing some minor work on a bazaar revamp and I know that Shadowbrak and DevH did work on the GCW Update prior to GU11. Hjal has been vocal on forums, but only when it was nessisary. He's really more into PM's.
Looks like more and more resources are being poured into the GCW Update now, after GU12. Initial reports from devs has been that its a huge update. Some backend systems has allready been pushed live and its resources so far also indicates that its a large Update. Work began on it this spring.

Please. You can pretend they're working on the GCW Update on the official forums...but that sh!t doesn't fly here Missy.
Name ONE THING they've done on it so far - ONE THING!?! (and be specific...none of this "back-end" bull sh!t)
While you and so many others tried to defend zombies, fairies, flying **edit**ing Ewoks and the other UTTER GAY FILTH Dotanuki added to the game, some people had the balls to tell them those things sucked and would cost them in the long run. You claim "we can't stop them or change their mind", but that's not true...we could have! We (Senators) had a duty to tell them what the PLAYERS wanted...not just sit up there and kiss ass like you do. We've gone over a year without any meaningful content.
Vinny, you make one hell of a top 5 list...but douche bags like you do more harm than good to the game. You actually said that PvPing outside of Restuss or the Static bases should be reported as "griefing". LINK
If you were even half the man all your female toons are you might be OK...but you're just a sorry little suck up who thinks he's important.

1st...don't misunderstand the "Private Forums"...they're a place SENATORS talk privately...very seldom do the Devs post there. You see much more from the Devs in public than we do in private. When they do post there, it's generally directly related to the update at hand, not to just "comment" on a topic. They don't just "engage in conversation" with us...they'll post a fact/question and leave.
The most any Dev was ever involved in there was HanseSoE with the PvP Update (and again on Engineer). While BOTH updates sucked, he did come in and make them sound good several times with pictures and promises.
TCG and TCG loot did come up, but it was no different than it is in public. Some love the TCG game, some buy all the cards...if I had to say, I guess I'd say more Senators play and enjoy the TCG than the general forum users, but it's really not THAT rampant or even that much of a topic discussed there.
This doesn't mean those of us who don't play or like the TCG didn't have the balls to say something, I think it was more that we were smart enough to see the TCG for what it was...a lottery. The lottery to me is just a property tax refund every year. I wish more people bought lottery tickets tbh. It's basic business...supply and demand. As long as there's a demand for TCG loot, SoE would be fools to not supply it. I find it reprehensible the way it works...but...I also don't support it with my $ while I bitch about it...something too many people do.
The ONLY way you stop the TCG is to stop making it profitable.
Now...keep in mind that my playstyle wasn't one of a "collector". There's NO LOOT I'll buy just to "have it"...it's a game, these are skins...no skin is worth working my arse off for. I feel bad for those players who are/were collectors, the TCG took that ability away from your average collector because there's virtually no way to keep up.
But again...the TCG ONLY succeeds because of the players. There's only one way to stop it.
Thanks for the reply Tux. I was under the impression that the senate forums were similar to the closed EQ2 test forums back when I was a tester there.
The EQ2 devs were pretty active in the game with us and in the forums with lots of Q/A flying back and forth. It wasn't just devs posting a topic and leaving. They would ask follow up questions about the whats and whys of things that were reported. We were just sort of a community of unpaid bug testers. We were never asked to input on what direction the game should go or what players wanted.
So this still has me scratching my head a bit about how the senate system works. If the devs don't actively get invovled in conversations with the senate, how to they get a feel for what the players want? Is it the same old posting of a "top 5 list" for the devs to read?

That's the real question.
Until recently, I wondered the same thing. But when I was talking to Rich and Linda from SoE, I asked them point blank "Who the hell tells the Devs what to add"? Turns out...THEY DO! They claimed they don't comment in the forums much, but they pass on the feedback to the Devs and they schedule the time.
So...what does the Senate do? Well...at one time we spoke as a voice for our respective communities/aspects on topics. We were there to speak up on things we felt would help/hurt our aspect.
Now? Now...well...it looks like they're meant to just suck up and kiss SOE's ass. If they speak out, they're out. Vinny is a perfect example of what is wrong with the current Senate.

I see that you have mixed up my personal opinions with my work as a senator and added a few points where you make stuff up. I also see that you haven't really understood the reasoning behind my post about server lag.
The large problem with the senate is SOE Austin has rendered it almost useless. Greypawn set up the senate and actualy believed it would be a factor in development, however, that went downhill pretty fast. Blix was not going to release his control, even to a small percentage. So ignore was his way of dealing with players, if they were senate or not.
Then, to top it all off, we had senators that had nothing more than Badger syndrome. Push their own agenda instead of the playerbase or just sitting back and becoming nothing more than cheerleaders for SOE, in general. TUX is correct, the senate, in it's current form, is just about nothing more than unpaid bug reporters.
Whenever the senate or a specific senator happened to disagree with SOE Austin, they were quickly drumed out, replaced, ignored,. Even the chosing of senators is held closely by SOE and if a player seems to be "excessivly negative", they have no chance in the senate, whatsoever.
I see that you have mixed up my personal opinions with my work as a senator and added a few points where you make stuff up. I also see that you haven't really understood the reasoning behind my post about server lag.
Ah! That must be where my mistake was made...see...I never did RP, I'm just not very good at "pretending" - something you obviously do well right? Whether I typed as "Senator TUX" or "Player TUX", it was the same. See, TUX is ME...Senator, player, friend, enemy, whatever...I was just myself online...I never pretended to be anything I wasn't. Speaking up for the GCW/PvP community always came from ME...not my title, not my position, not some false persona I was pretending to be at the time.
So, which part of your moronic post was "Vinny the Senator" and which was "Vinny the cross dresser" (seriously dude, playing all gurl main toons creeps me out)? Since you've NEVER clarified, I'll assume that "Senator Vinny" wanted to report players who were PvPing outside of Restuss or Static Bases as greifers and the conflicted Vinny was the one who just wanted us all to get along...right?
Ya see, some of us actually wanted them to IMPROVE the game Vincent...you are still more concerned about your "status" as a Senator. We weren't there to be SoE pitchmen, we were there to represent and speak for the PLAYERS! Not only when we agreed, but always. Sony is comprised of grown-ups who are more than capable of speaking for themselves - they've even gone so far as to hire a full time troll (Drakkull). HIS job is to speak for SoE...ours was to stand up and tell SoE what the community wanted.
Please tell me - who, when and where were YOU told to speak for SoE as a Senator? You WEREN'T! Rather than defending them for having **edit**ty servers and ignoring a huge segment of their veteran players, you should have told them what the REAL problem was...it wasn't "PvPers" douchebag, it was their lack of attention to PvP for nearly 6+ years, it was creating zones like Restuss...rather than having PvP spread out across the galaxy as it should have been, THEY **edit**ed up and started the whole mob mentality we see today...Restuss created the mobs, mobs lead to more lag. But no...instead of telling them the truth, you resorted to "labeling" and dividing the players more than they were by calling PvPers "greifers".
Intolerant suck-ups like you are pathetic mate. PvP is in nearly ALL MMOs...it's not new or exclusive to SWG. The BIG difference is, MOST MMOs actually support and develop with PvP in mind. To SoE, it's a nuisance.
I'm sorry dude, but pathetic social rejects like yourself drive me nuts. Intolerance and segregation is something I find deplorable...and both are something YOU push.
The intention was to get more server resources to servers that had problems hosting open world PVP in anticipation of a GCW Update or at least some kind of mechanic where PVP'ers could create a beacon controlled temporary sub-server - for example around player bases or other PVP hotspots.
The post tries to identify other types of "lag" so that the players can focus on reporting server lag when and where it happens in an attempt to bring more resources to the sub-servers that need it.
On Chim for example, there was two towns that where famous for their city pvp. They where located on the Lok and Talus sub-servers. They where unable to host open world pvp, without players experiencing slideshows and all the classic signs of server lag.
Personally, my PC is up to date and even during heavy pvp I don't get server lag, so I couldn't really care less.
As a senator its my job to represent players issues - so I do. It is also my job to secure that no more server lag will come to players that are allready complaining about it. Youre starting to understand my problem now? I want to support open world PVP both as a senator and as a player, but I can't because players are complaining about the allready existing levels of server lag. Without support from the PVP community to increase server resources on allready afflicted servers, there was no way I could support adding more lag to a community that was allready heavily affected by it - and more notably complaining about it.
No real effort came of it. Its possible we could have worked together for improvements. Unfortunately you spent the time getting personal instead of working constructively with me on how to get your community more server resources. Hopefully the next Rebel Senator will have a clue.
I have no idea why youre making this stuff up about me having some kind of special gay love about the Ewok Festival of Love. I hated every second of it and only spent about 10 minutes on it. Youre obviously lying here. I'd go as far as to say youre blatantly lying. I was very vocal in my expression of contempt about the update. Thats as a player btw. I wasn't even a GP senator when that failupdate was implemented so stop wanking about it.
GCW>Zombies. Yeah I hated their decision about that. Which is why I asked you to make a thread about it in the senate forums. Needless to say you didn't really give me a chance to express my personal opinion about it nor the community opinion about the matter. Luckily Dotanuki said that despite the player uproar they where not changing their minds so I didn't have to waste my time getting ignored.
The feedback thread I posted was because that, despite what you think and I know it goes against your opinion - there where actually players that looked forward to the update. I just gave them a chance to add some feedback as with any update prior to implementation and as promised I passed that feedback on to the team. Let me clarify: I as a player could not care less about Zombies - I wanted the GCW update first and so did the majority of the community.
When I posted links to the Starwars Wiki, I didn't post those links because I was licking their arses. I did so because it was on topic and because one of the issues of the community was Immersion (it was in the GP top5 list). The zombies are part of EU and as such is not an immersion breaker unless planted in the wrong time era. BUT there where zombie experiments going on during the GCW. Do I like that? No. Did it happen according to SW Lore? Yes. Is it my duty to represent the community thoughts about this? Yes. Both the good and the bad. I can't just take the bad, post those and then ignore the ones that are actually looking forward to it and say: "No there is no good feedback what so ever - it never happened". Did I pass on the communities thoughts about the Zombie preferences? You bet!
Your inability to wrap your head around those differences makes most of your posts very /popcorn friendly. I've never seen someone QQ as much as you about something we agreed on was lame. And Im still worried about your desire to misinform the GCW community about whats really going on with the upcoming GCW Update. Hopefully this will all be cleared up with the next Rebel Senator stepping in and we can proceed to get some facts on the table that the community can trust.

Lets take this piece by piece shall we?!
The 1st underline is blatantly false retard. PvPers were FULLY in support of more server resources...we were against ZONES and being forced into some corner on a server nobody went to. PvPers have as much right to play WHERE they like as anyone.
2 and 3 kinda go together...see, this is the part of you I despise...maybe it's because you're from Belgium or whatever, but your tone is unmistakably cocky. How freaking arrogant are you that you feel "I" have to work with YOU?! YOU don't get me resources for servers, YOU don't dictate where SoE spends their $, YOU don't come into the equation unless you'd like to debate with me about it. This isn't your call and I don't need to seek your permission to make my own community requests. Only SoE makes these decisions, not YOU Vinny. Sure, I'd love your support for things, but I really didn't feel the need to seek your approval before speaking for my community.

Huh? Not at all dude. I think it's weird that all you play are female toons and you're a Belgium dude...that's creepy, this isn't about gheywoks.

Uh...again, why would I care what your opinion is on it? And don't say you didn't have a chance to express your view of it...you've had PLENTY of chances! AMPLE opportunity! In fact, you probably have had more opportunity than anyone dude...so get to it, post YOUR thoughts! Dotanuki is gone, and the GAME, not their schedule, is what NEEDS to be the priority. It doesn't matter what they have scheduled Vincent...they need to focus on keeping customers, not meeting deadlines.
Dude, no matter HOW you try to spin it, they will LOSE MORE CUSTOMERS by delaying the GCW Update than they'll gain with adding in zombies. I don't care if there was one player who really wanted "zombies" added to SWG...it's stupid in a MONUMENTAL way! Seriously...jumping, warping, Benny Hill zombies huh?! LOL!
QQ? Meh...whatever. Call it what you want Vicenta. Uh...what exactly do you mean by "misinform"? Dude, when I was in the Senate, all we had were "possibles" posted by PLAYERS...not even Devs - Adept posted a Copy & Paste of Dot's post in the Influencer forum to ours and then, months later, the same post was released at Fan Faire as their "slides" on the GCW. The posts I did make on several topics were "stripped" due to length. Not only did we have NO OFFICIAL WORD on what was happening, you pretending we knew more than we did is just odd dude.
Again, the "back end" stuff is just stupid Vinny. Invisible updates that nobody knows about...uh huh. Reminds me of that story, "The Emperor's New Clothes". If they are, great, if not, we don't know. I'm sorry mate, I don't buy the "behind the scenes" BS. I hope the GCW Update is GREAT and everyone comes back to play SWG...but I don't even think a 30-day trial at release will get my hopes up.
Dude, too little, too late is what stands out to me. While you accepted their worthless schedule, I wanted to change it.
Face the facts...between October 2008 and now, they've worked on only ONE "big system"...Chronicles. Everything else was "updates" and fodder between their BIG UPDATE. That alone speaks for the condition SWG is in. It'll be almost a full year by the time it's released. ONE year and all they're adding is a "make your own collection" tool...holy crap!
Hopefully this will all be cleared up with the next Rebel Senator stepping in and we can pretend to get some facts on the table that the community can trust.

This is something I see so frequently in soe games I have to believe it is a purposeful tactic by soe. The part where you mention a senator "labeling" people is what really sticks out, as if going against the hive mind is a criminal act on the forums. Both from the mods and from the players.
Airing any dirty laundry or complaint risks getting the poster branded as something from a long list of choices. None of which is a customer with a grievance.
One part of the community just refuses to place any amount of blame on the developer and instead seems to deflect that responsibility somehow to the players who are unsatisfied.
It is just baffling how far some people will go to chastise and drive away their fellow community members over some mistreatment that is rooted with soe. They simply will not face the reality of the situation.
Lol this is such a deja vu for so many of us here. You know, when we did our best to make a bad situation work, and then felt silenced, banned etc., and found ourselves here wondering wtf had just happened :P. I guess the SOE/SWG drama machine is still churning out the same results: division, confusion and frustration...oh, and more former players.

Tux,
How does the virtual loot cards get handled on the senate forums? Is it a taboo topic? Maybe "asked and answered" and not to be brought up again or is it a topic still open for discussion?
Gauging the reaction to draakulls first friday feature it seems like players have some issues with the volume of loot cards and it would be something high on the list of senate discussion.
Thanks.

This thread explains the purpose of my post: [Guide] Understanding Serverlag, and you
The intention was to get more server resources to servers that had problems hosting open world PVP in anticipation of a GCW Update or at least some kind of mechanic where PVP'ers could create a beacon controlled temporary sub-server - for example around player bases or other PVP hotspots.
Cant we all just get along. :-)

Huh? Not at all dude. I think it's weird that all you play are female toons and you're a Belgium dude...that's creepy, this isn't about gheywoks.

LOL!

Fix'd
