Wow, I knew you guys were pretty desparate to slam the game, but hacking the web page of a major game site so a user review masquarades as an official one? Pretty impressive.
HOOOOLLLLYYYY ...
Is it wrong that I honestly don't know if he's trolling or telling the truth of what he believes? Hmmm
Well, the reason why I thought that was I thought it was sort of funny when I looked down the GameSpot page it didn't show the review score on the main FFXIV page, on the aggregation site page, and I thought it was pretty wierd any official weviewer would write something like, "everything about the economy stinks" and "every aspect of the game is filled with dumb obstacles" because those are really unprofessional things for a real reviewer to write. Then I went into the actual reviewer's user page and looked down to the record of the things he reviewed and, oddly enough, FFXIV wasn't listed. The last blog entry he made was in June, and the last itme he was listed as online was 8/22/10.
So it's really fishy. Either GameSpot's site is just having major issues or this was some kind of odd hackjob.
I agree with that score. I might still check it out when it hits for the PS3 but I doubt it. By then CAT will be out, GW2 will almost be here, along with TOR and I'll probably be playing Aion here and there.

I think what most people are reacting to isn't something that's 'different', but the fact that it seems SE has taken a wheel and given in four flat edges, in order to make the act of rolling it more challenging. Absolutely, it is tougher to roll it, but is this really a step in the right direction, or simply an act of complicating matters purely for the sake of complicating them?
Perhaps it's just a matter of perspective.
What the hell is that crazy looking bald rat thing in your avatar?
A sheep on acid, I believe.
Whoops. My b-a-a-a-a-d. It's a sheep on methamphetamines getting tasered.

take your rose colored glasses off before viewing.
Okay, the video is a bit more convincing, despite the wierd conflicts to be seen throughout the rest of the site.
Having seen that video, I can see why it's fair enough he said everything he did. Though he exaggerates them a bit much, in my opinion.
I still like the game, though. It's a really wierd review, really, to hear him talking it's like the game is completely unplayable. That simply isn't true.

Hahahahaha...hahahahaha.. this is signature worthy. I hope for your own sake that you were being sarcastic.
Heso o kamedomo oyobanu -- Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Glad to see I've made a lot of the haters here very happy with my initial misunderstanding based off the wierd issue with the way GameSpot does their content distribution leading to that initial misconception.
Anywho, you guys have your first negative professional review. Seems I jumped the gun to assume the average was going to be 8.0 or higher after seeing the Cheat Code Central review's 8.4. Go pop a champaign cork, vindication is yours at last, it's party time for you.
I didn't get the "game is not playable" vibe. I got the "game is not desirable" vibe instead, which is exactly my sentiments. I really want the game to succeed, but I literally log on for 1 hour every other day to finish my leves, and then I log off. I ran around for 4 hours looking at the landscapes across the game and there is nothing interesting...a lot of the mobs are rehashed. I figured I was just killing the same mobs over and over again (marmot, cactuar, mercenary) to get to something more grand, but I was wrong...
I'm starting to think they implemented the 36 hour leve cooldown to try to slow people down so they don't find out there is literally no high level content. But I guess I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just unsubscribe for a few months, and hope they fix things.

Ok, I expected it to be bad but not quite that bad.
Yeah, they even gave it a 4.0. And I don't know how much it would affect SE's reputation.
Well, when you start to think about it, SquareEnix has been on a downswing for a while now. They really haven't released a universally accepted classic since Final Fantasy X, though I personally loved XII.
FF12 is awesome. I recently have picked it up and I enjoy it a lot. Sure it's not perfect but its a hell of a lot better then FF13.

I totally agree with the review and the score but it does NOT make me happy. I grew up playing Final Fantasy. I want to like FFXIV but it seems SE went out of their way to make it so terribly hard to.

I thought you may bring up the other rewiew. Go read it, as they also say they can't recommened people buy it. Their score (for whatever reason) doesn't add up to their review.

This Dude actually thought someone hacked Gamespot to post a negative review. Funniest thing I've read on any forums in the longest time. Blindly defending this game to the point he questions negative reviews, lol lol. Game is garbage plain and simple.
You seem to be the only fanboi left on these boards.

Here are the exact words from the review you use as an example:
We can’t recommend that you spend $50, and then $12.99 a month after the first 30 days, on a title that has as many flaws as FFXIV does.

I think the mistake SE made was they went out of their way to make the game 'different'. It's like they looked at FFXI and said "Ok, this works well and that works well, and we learned players like the way this works... so lets take all that and NOT do it, that way we will be totally different! And different is cool, right? Yeah!"
Also, from one of the interviews I remember the lead dev saying that the FFXIV team and the FFXI team had very different ideas of how an MMO should play, with the FFXIV team thinking they had a better idea and thats what they applied to the game.
