I might be a shitty MMORPG player, but I'm a fairly experienced humorist, and this was trying to emulate cracked.com's "punchline / captioned photo / segway" a little too hard.
True humor is finding the edge in a conversation when there is none. It's breaking the barrier between normalcy and surreality in a manner that still befits the context. Ragging on AoC because it's brown isn't really a humor point, it's just an observation. A good pun to make with regard to that game could be something as childish as "they marketed this game as having full-on boob nudity. More like age of BONE-an, am I right?" and it would have been funnier.
Also, yes, poop can be funny, but merely observing that poop is funny, however, is not. Everything needs a context. "poop is funny", sure, yes, but WHY is it funny? is it funny because you just made one that smells like tchernobyl? is it funny because you just fed it to an orphan? or is it simply funny because it happens to make the same sound coming out as it's name?
There, that was making poop funny. Hell, without even stretching it, you could have tied in two mediocre jokes for one grander punchline, implying that perhaps AoC's color pallette was "art from within", "true, natural inspiration coming from the inside". Or you could go the lowbrow route and say that the artists used turds instead of Wacom styli.
Either way, I am not trying to tell you how to do your job, since my area of professional expertise actually lies in the development of games, and not in humor (although I sincerely wish it did), and clearly you possess better qualifications than most if not anyone posting here, and as such more than deserve your column.
I am, however, implying that there is both a science and an art to being funny, and from what I gleaned from this article, the levels of humor here were "my first chemistry set" and a box of turd colored watercolors.
First off, puns are not funny.
Secondly, a great many people lost their lives in the Tchernobyl disaster, and the surrounding area is still irradiated to the point where the only things that live there are the horribly mutated animals that eek out a dangerous existence in the toxified forests surrounding Pripyat. Even as we speak, people who live in the nearby countryside are coping with horrible diseases and genetic disorders that have crippled them for the entire duration of their pained lives, which will undoubtedly be cut short by their agonizing deaths. Many of them are also orphans.
And finally, you describe comedy as art. This will make an incredible moment in my post, as I am inclined to agree with this statement insofar as I do believe there to be an art to making people laugh. I myself am an incredibly humorous individual. However, you sir are the one drawing with the "turd-colored watercolors" as you so eloquently describe them. You have no artistic skill to speak of, and everything you are spewing is very bland, and of course, brown.
Yeah. Hopefully it gets better. Who am I though...at least you get paid to waste your time on forums. The AoC color-palate comments seems uninspired...a comment made by someone who might not have read any of Robert Howards Conan stories. The color palate perfectly reflects the dreary, dirty and dark world of Hyborea. Something about all the rampant magic effects flying around , in what should be a low-to-rarely-seen-magic setting. would have been more fitting.
Don't listen to the guys who can't find any humor in this article, alright? Let's be honest here. They're all a bunch of mommy-loving, basement dwelling, NEEEERDS. So trust me when I say this. Your articles are fine, your humor is okay, and you should be a breath of fresh air on a website like this. TRUST ME, TRUST ME. I'LL TAKE YOU AROUND THE UNIVERSE.
Well I for enjoyed the article. Made me chuckle a few times, won't call it comic genius but I fail to see many of the people being overly critical doing much better.
What I'd really like to point out though is the comment "You kill off a character whose powers keep him from being killed off?" which I also had beef with but my fiance pointed out that he was in fact "the black guy".
So it seems some stereotypes are rock solid when movie writers will kill off the black guy even when he has super powers that allow him to adapt and survive any situation. Well unless the situation is racial stereotypes in movies, he obviously couldn't adapt to that one.

For reals though... I actually enjoyed the new Xmen movie because I try not to get my expectations up too high when it comes to adaptation flicks.
I have this feeling that you wear a clown suit to "work," and I am DEFINITELY not getting in your van, regardless of what "candy" you're promising. However, I will read your articles and look forward to reading the next one.....from a fair distance.

Poop.
So, if we follow your logic, it's not funny to mention, in ANY context relating to a joke, a disaster event... Guess someone needs to inform all of the jewish comedians in the world that their material is unfunny.
I found most of it funny their is one thing i would have left out at the end. Some humor is more offensive then humorous and i get that's the point of it all however their is a line that daring to cross could wind up leaving you with half the people walking away shaking their heads and the rest giving you the stink eye like you just crapped on their cupcake.

Well written! And welcome. By the way, you can get ride of digital herpes (much like the original version) by simply passing it along!
...right?

Proofreading isn't as important to me as it should be anyways.

There are at least three of you that are ruining humor for me. The author of the article, however, is not one of them.
Funny! Welcome to the boat, mate.

Welcome aboard, looking forward to reading more.
The King declares you a poor nerd!
Havok's always been Cyclops' bro; the order doesn't matter. Also all of these intro jokes were old; AoC being brown? VGCats did it better.
Now craft something more interesting peasant. The King has work to avoid doing.
O.K. I'll lighten up
I have all your albums.

On a side note, make me laugh, humor man.
I liked your way pf writing Coyote.
Hope to see more from you.
So much love in this thread. It's like Coyote's mom has a bunch of different accounts!
And *I*ve been accusing the man of blatantly stealing from Cracked for YEARS... stop stealing MY bit.

I tried to laugh...
Coyote!
nhavas likes his comedy like he likes his women... thoroughly dissected
I'm a little sad that you made me post here.
Also, very happy Coyote is back rotting the minds of innocent gamers. Cheers to poop!
