"Standard", "Heavy", "Very Heavy", etc, are just words, they do not necessarily mean anything.
That some people leave after the free month was to be expected, and i doubt BW will be surprised about that. Also i think, that they will still have a nice bolster of subscribers, which enables them to further develop the game for a looong time
BW/EA obviously did not do their financial calculations based on a 100% renention rate
Oh, btw. Can anyone name five major western MMOs, which are not considered a "failure" by the...internet community? Besides WoW?
1 Full server – 0 Very Heavy – 27 Heavy – Rest Servers Standard.
I guess those are low numbers comparing a few days back.
Every day more and more ppl get to lvl 50. Every day they realize that there is nothing to do except the same old grinding. The only thing to do is running dungeons and later raids. PvP sucks and there are only 3 warzones. Crafting is generic and boring. World is dead and there is few to none to do out there.
The end of free month approaches…
I somehow thought of the boss in Naxxramas/WoW saying:
It is premature, TOR won't die but you will start seeing a bleeding of subs starting either this month or next month how bad this bleeding only time will tell. Bioware need to seriously improve the game and their customer service which is worse then the actual bugs in the game.

Doesn't mean much maybe people just are playing less often instead of 12 hours a day they playing 4 after they spent 3 weeks glued to pc. I could care less not playing the game because it looks like a piece of **** but thats just my taste I am sure some idi...people enjoy it more then others. Whats the use with all these posts about whether or not people like SWTOR or not ,or will continue to play it in 3 months? Are you in some hurry to find out? Do you need to have it fail to validate your not liking it?
Every time I come to this site for last 3-6 months same posts about tor.I bet half the people reading this could argue both sides 10 different ways.

Yep lets blame the players for rushing through the content. That's all there is to it right?
Two games that I'm somehow absolutely certain that I'll be playing for an extended period of time, TOR and GW2, have developers that have chosen to strongly emphasize levelling content. Because I've known that fact about these two games, I don't feel terribly foolish choosing to take my time enjoying that levelling process. Mileage of course will vary, but surely being fully levelled within one month should be considered at least fast if not extreme.
I agree, we shouldn't blame anybody for playing a game the way they want to play it. You might, however, understand that we may not be entirely sympathetic with the predictable result of making a race of it.
That is the biggest problem with these new games since WoW, they are very easy to play even children can play them (one of the biggest reasons games like WoW have a big Sub. base) and everyone just runs through to end-game in a matter of weeks and even days then bitches cause there is nothing to do. That is why i wish i never left EQ, you may have only gotten half a level or if it was a good hunting spot a full level, but you felt like you accomplished something and since it was group based you socialized for the entire time you killed stuff. Nowadays it is all about insta gratification, who can get to the end fastest, and solo play unless you want to raid.
i seem to think children are better gamers though, they can be taught the language of games hehe, unless your meaning 2-8 year olds then they need a slap lol
Just like any MMO that launched in the last 5-6 years (especially hyped ones), TOR will see a drop in players after the first month or two. That is absolutely inevitable, because a lot of people will have jumped on the hype-bandwagon or will have been dragged to TOR by friends. They would not have stayed anyway.
The usual crew of "beat the game in the first 3 weeks" will move on as well. They always do.
The real question is where the sub levels will stabilise. My guess would be somewhere between 500K and 800K...
Of course, TOR will keep on adding new players as well. I haven't bought the game yet, but I will later this year.
Oh, btw. Can anyone name five major western MMOs, which are not considered a "failure" by the...internet community? Besides WoW?
Well I think it's genrally acceptable to call a MMO that have continuously dwindling populations since the inital launch>end of first month period a failure. I haven't checked but other then small temporary boosts for xpacks/larger patches I think no recent MMO fit this except WoW and EVE.

Eve and Wow can hardly be considered recent
There are actually many more than five. UO, AC, EQ, DAOC all predate WoW and carried significant numbers for years (although those numbers are not in WOW's league...carrying 100K+ subs 10-15 years ago was definately NOT a failure. Granted, the last two major releases were flops (WAR and AOC)
I still think that Bioware will have their 500K+ subs, probably quite easily. I can only speak about what I hear in guild chat, but a significant portion of our (very large) guild are happy, and subbing.

EVE, A tale in the desert, UO, AC, FFXI.
While A Tale in the Desert is not considered a failure it is by no menas a triple A mmo or nearly on same level of financial success as your other examples. Also, where is EQ?
Its still topping the pc games charts in many countrys . So dunno how much of a drop off you'll see in month two .I'm enjoying it enough to subscribe but I will alternate it with Rift on a bi-monthly basis .
I'm finding it fun and not bored at all yet but you see I only play it 2-3 hours a day average . Like most people I would think .
I can understand if you play 12 hours a day and have got to level 50 already you might feel burnt out .
Then again you may not and want to play an alt or do the numerous things available to do at max level .
I think if most of the people that hate it have probably stopped playing already along and those thinking of leaving probably playing a lot less .
Yet we still see a huge number of heavy or very heavy load servers and you still have to que to get into some . To me this suggest the drop off will be a lot less than many people think . In fact there may not actually be a drop off at all given its selling so well still .
So what. The next content update is inbound. People will return.
Edit: That's how gaming works, you blaze through the existing content, have a blast, do something else, and return when new content is available.
Something wrong with a lot of people "blaze" through the initial game in less than a month and then it can not hold their attention. Makes me think the game is to blame if it is a known fact that people "blaze" through content.

Release wise no, but growth wise they are recent wow only really stopped growing what 1-2 years ago? EVE is still slowly slowly gaining more subs as far as I know.

Like they returned to Rift-Warhammer-AoC-Aion-Lotro etc?
Name a game that the subscribers turned back after they canceled their subscription.
Very few to none and SWTOR is heading the same direction.
EQ 2 for starters Mr. Doomday.
EQ 2 is free2play. That's got nothing to do with players returning. It got something to do with loads of steam users wanting to check out what all the fuzz is about. I bet most of them are just creating an account, playing it for a few mins then log out and never play it again.

Given the fact that EA had already said it was going to Brick and Mortar it's box sales and limit digital sales after the launch. You may well be right. Let just say the VGcharts numbers are close to reality.
If they had 1.4 million initial users (dec 20th activation) and then sold 140K post launch per week for 3 weeks, then even when Jan 20th rolls around and they lose 30-50% to the lookie lues crowd, that still would leave 700k-900K initial sales subs, plus the additional 500K new sales that won't lose their free month till Feb and onward. So that's 1.2 - 1.4 users, even though only 700-900K will be subscribtions.
What will really be telling is what happens at the 3 month mark, then at the 6 month mark. Because if someone had a gun to my head witha crystal ball and told me to pick a number that my life depended on, I would have to go with 800k at 3 months, and 575K at 6 months. EA will no doubt keep the doors open with those numbers long term.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

Why do people keep calling it the free month ?
Damn good question akshually.
Thread should be called: "The end of the most expensive month approaches ... do you plan to stay for discount gaming hours?"
My brand new bloggity blog.

can some one tell me one game besides eve where you dont do the same raid over and over. or the same BG
my mistake you do that in eve as well, eve just has a 1000 little complicated things you can also do.
