LOL!
It saddens me that new people will be considered noobs just because they use common terms used in other MMOs.
I hope the community is better then that.
If EQN is anywhere near as unforgiving and difficult as EQ 1...
Most of todays MMO goers wont last long anyways.
Aye you did not farm EQ
EQ farmed you !!!
Difficult how? I never played EQ 1. Hard mobs that required a group? Hard to understand how to play? Hard to play because of poor UI? What was difficult?
We can only hope...
So...you just want yet another niche sandbox that isn't accessible to most just so you can be in your elitist group of player type?
WTB 8 x CRT to craft epic HGTK !!
Hard leveling.
Exp loss upon death and corpse retrieval with all your gear on said corpse.
No close respawning after death unless you bound yourself nearby. If you died on one side of the world, forgot to bind there, and were last bound to the opposite side of the world? start running or begging others for help.
Uber items were HARD to obtain, when someone was showboating something, chances are high you didnt see it on every person that walked by.
Most of the classes needed groups to xp.
No hand holding.
Nothing to tell you to "GO HERE".
No maps(except player made on the internet)
Skills had to be worked on to be effective.Anywhere from your chosen weapon type to swimming.
No mounts, only run buffs destributed by certain classes.Only certain classes could teleport to fixed locations, which you would have to pay a fee unless they are feeling nice.
No
we want an MMO that suits our taste for once.Which is obvious that todays players wont like. With SOE saying EQN will be going back to its roots,I know im crossing my fingers that its true.
Well, without going all nostalgic and posting an epic series of novels...
You didn't start with a tutorial in EQ, you just spoke to your guild master (class) and turned in a note. It helped you understand interaction a bit, if you weren't familiar with it from MUDs.
From there you went around town, spoke to different npcs with whom you actually communicated. There were no quick popup dialogues you click thru ignoring the story. Communication.
None of that was required of course, you could just head out of town with your short sword, rations and water (or milk and muffins), and go adventuring. Mobs were unforgiving from the get go. You were as likely to be killed as you were to kill the wildlife in starter areas, and it only got harder.
You hit level 4, got some new spells, perhaps a new ability as a melee. You only thought you got stronger though, because from there on out you quickly learned to seek the help of others to go anywhere or kill anything. Without movement speed, you weren't kiting mobs as a caster. A mage or necro could handle themselves, but otherwise you were flirting with death by trying to solo.
So, you made friends, and the world felt real. Everyone seemed to need each other, and were friendly (as opposed to the hostile or indifference you experience with players in modern games). You could go explore, but the indigenous wildlife was not very accommodating. When you went anywhere near hostile monsters and animals, they'd come after you, and you did not outrun them. Down the road with certain items or buffs you might, but not early on. It was rough to say the least.
The game continued in that spirit all the way to the end. It was not a solo friendly game, though certain classes had ways of managing on their own.
Fixed some of those! Otherwise a good list

Ask Rangers, Druids, or Shamans for SOW.
Ask Enchanters for Crack/Clarity (caster) or Haste (melee).
Prove your old school by talking about items like FBSS, Fungi Tunic, SSoY, Lammies, GBS, FBR, etc.
Make a macro using /p "Incoming %t" if you are a puller and use it for every MOB you pull.
Ask your monk to feign death to split pulls. If they fail, yell at them.
Tell your enchanters to mes or mez. If they fail, yell at them. If someone breaks a mes they weren't suppose to yell at them. If you break a mes make sure you say it was an accident or you did it because you know what you are doing.
Always "dual box" or hydra box multiple accounts if possible. The more accounts you have the less noob you'll look.
Ask Wizards or Druids for "ports". If you are a Druid or Wizard port people around for a fee paid upfront.
Talk about how long you had to camp Ragefire to get yourself or another Cleric in your guild their epics.
When you enter a dungeon shout "Camp Check". Always call the best camp or immediately find the person with the best camp and ask to put on the list.
When you get people directions just give them the loc. If you don't know the locs memorize it. You should have at least 200 locs memorized to not be considered a noob.
If you are a Cleric charge people for ressing them, after all you took the time and mana to cast the spell, right?
If all else fails remember the most important rule: Always be an eltist jerk to people who never played the previous Everquest, because you did you are entitled to be an ass to people who didn't. If they demand any modern MMO feature that wasn't present in the original EQ or complain about the outdated features then make sure you go on a rant about how much better this is and how much more social the MMO is because of said feature.
Regardless of what's going on, somehow relate it to high level characters you had in EQ 10+ years ago. Work in how geared they were as well.
If you're killing crocodiles, talk about how it reminds you of raiding with your 60 monk in full VP gear during Kunark.
If you didn't actually play back then, don't worry! Just google whatever the best gear was during an old period in EQ and talk about how awesome it was when you had it.
Groupmate 1: "Inc 2 beetles"
You: "Should be no problem, I would have split that with my max geared SK though"
*group kills mobs*
Groupmate 2: "Need to med"
You: "NP, I didn't have to med on my shaman after I got torpor and cannidanced"
*group kills a few more mobs*
*few minutes of silence*
You: "FULL RAID GEAR ENCHANTER MAX AA'S!"
LOL for my FBSS I sat the spawn for 3 days solid no sleep minor bio breaks.
Sandbox x
Cashbox v Sandbank ^
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already
I agree. The OP seems one-sided..sadly.

I wish, You know it wont be like this anymore though, To many hand holders out there that will cry after the first minute ingame. So like every other MMO developer out there will take the WoW hand hold approach. I wish it was going to be like EQ1 ( Best MMO period - Death meant something, as dying you could "Lose" your level - every level was earned!)
I for one would love to see hard core MMO come back where you really had to use your brain again in an MMO, but its very doubtful.
Actually would be somewhat refreshing to bring back the n00b mentality that was so prevelant in early Everquest LOL
Couldn't keep track of how many times I died or feigned death cuz players simply didn't know how to handle multiple MOBs and everyone was on the same learning curve which was quite refreshing and adventurous for all involved
I really think you meant you didn't want wannabes from other MMORPGs who brought along much of the terminology from being in Raids and such
Don't want to burst your bubble though your going to have to come to terms with the fact that most of the MMORPG gaming community has a past and they approach new MMORPGs in much the same manner...
Simply said there isn't as much imagination, creativity, intuition, instinct going on as there used to be as there are limitations in technology and it seems like every new MMORPG on the block borrows from the past with a few improvements here and there
Roleplaying really isnt going to truly exist until it is truly a part of gameplay and a part of every players decision and experience in the participation in a particular MMORPG (including Everquest Next)
Most of the difficulty people experienced could be chalked up to the fact that there was no huge network of gaming wiki's to give players guides and answers on every conceivable fascet of the game. Players had to figure it out on their own or through other players via word of mouth (text?).
In addition raids were huge and lasted HOURS upon hours!. I never did get to raid back in the day, I was to nub and only leveled my main to 48. My husband on the other hand has raiding stories as a healer that involved having about 20 or more healers trading off and timing their heals for raids that were upwards of 6 hours. Ugh sounds painful..
I guess the op is a WOW born player cause there is no way in hell that list is what makes you a noob in EQ. You are a noob by your actions not by how you talk and if you came to me with talk like you have here i would instantly put you down as a WoW or FPs player and not a real EQ vet.
Everybody is gonna be a noob when EQN comes out but some will be silly noobs with no brains on how to play a challengeing game that you cant zerg every mob. Well at least i hope it will be challengeing lol.
