I see two types here, the people that love it and the people that hate it. This is what I was expecting.
However what I'm saying is both will become one. Not entirely but close.
Reasons ?
- It's been years since we had a real mmo. Players are starving.
- Many have never experienced an mmo. The classics are old and dried up from back in 2004 and beyond. You would have to be crazy to expect something that old to catch the new generation of players. To make matters worse their now cash grabs.
- Everyone would in brace a living world.
- Many like the idea, but despise Everquest, Vanguard, SOE along with the entire staff from past failures. But they will come around the quickest if the games turns out to be good.
- Many post on this site are hateful and harmful just because. Time and time again their is more bashing than agreeing. People seem to love ripping a post to shreds, looking for that weak point and going for the main artery. It's what people do.
- No one likes easy, short games. It's part of the lie I was talking about.
Why do you think people want a MMO like this when you say classics are dried up and that this is just another try to remake EQ and Vanguard?
Need to get a clue...EQ was popular for being one of the first 3d MMO's...not because of gameplay or the mechanics..it really was popular because there was not much else to play which drew a lot of players.
This really couldn't be more wrong. There have been doctoral thesis quality posts, blogs and forums dedicated to EQ and older MMOs where people have broken down exactly what they liked about it and why it fostered an entirely different environment and was so enjoyable and addictive. You should probably go back and read some and "get a clue." Specifically there was one earlier this year called something like "Call it nostalgia all you want" and dozens of people gave very detailed lists of why they enjoyed EQ and what specifically made it better than modern games.
How is he wrong though? In 2004 oldschool gamers who were playing EQ and it's peers left those games in droves to go play WoW. It would seems that even in the vaunted oldschool player base there was a majority that chose a far less punishing far more solo friendly game once they were actually offered a choice.
Just because oldschool games had an "entirely different environment" doesn't mean a great deal of their success couldn't be attributed to not having to compete with WoW.
However, it has been so long since there has been an alternative to the WoW model that there could be significant pent up demand for something different. I certainly felt more than a twinge of nostalgia after watching the Tree of Savior review that talk about grind parties rather than questing to level.
EQ in 2004 is not the EQ most people are referring to. By 2004, EQ was almost identical to vanilla WoW, only WoW did everything better.
You also seem to be missing the point. Pantheon doesn't need a playerbase of half a million to be successful. Regardless of how popular WoW is, to this day, EQ is still the game that comes up in every other thread in general. None of its rivals then or now can change that, because contrary to what people have convinced you of, nostalgia has nothing to do with what people miss about the game or the genre in general.
I guess it's time to make a very long story very short.
Pantheon is the only mmo being developed with a real interactive social environment. This style of mmo had been lost for so long, its actually NEW .........This is why everyone will be playing it.
Fight the urge all you like, but it will be the only real mmo. This is all based on all features promised.

So do you have to pay a sub to join the game in alpha or whatever current stage it is in? When I go to the game's webpage I can't find any information on pricing/fees.

Hi YashaX,
We have pledges available that come with a range of benefits, some of which contain Pre-Alpha, Alpha and Beta access.
You can find more information by heading to this Wiki page on our site and having a look through all the available pledges.

Great thanks, somehow I missed that when I was looking through your site. So from what I can gather there is no current alpha/pre alpha testing, but if we pledge (from $100 up) we can play alpha/beta without also paying a sub?
Also the higher pledge tiers are quite interesting- we can actually contribute to design elements on some pledge tiers?

Yes, same here thanks, I'll be in for at least the $100 one come closer to alpha/beta. However I would like to see the game mature a little before jumping in.

Heh who is missing what point here? Re read the title of this post:P Everyone will play? And then you say they do not need 500k...which was my whole point. Heck the niche size may be better than that now, but i doubt it.
It is a niche game. Trying to get "everyone" to play a niche game will not, i would say, can not, ever be done, nor would it be good for the game.
Back to my point of niche games are fine FOR the niche. Which is what EQ, vanguard, and this one, if ever released, will be. EQ was "popular" until there was other good choices...then people started leaving quite drastically, until the devs started trying to change the niche into something else and ruined the game for quite a bit of the niche market that was happy with it.
The market for this type game is a lot smaller than most think is my opinion, obviously not of the OP nor you maybe. But again my point stands. Try to change a niche game to get more of "everyone" will ruin a game as fast if not faster than just making a game for a small niche and keeping them happy.
And one last thought...how many servers are there that the new company put out of the time locked Eq? With all the "doctoral thesis quality posts" and so forth, i am sure there are dozens...oh wait...so the demand for all the pain of that type game play and mechanics does not appear to be that large after all.
I guess it's time to make a very long story very short.

You're welcome
Unfortunately, Pledges only contain website subscriptions. Since our game is going to be Subscription based, handing them out would not be the smartest move on our part
Yes, some of the pledges include the opportunity to play a part in contributing to the game with things like naming items, creating quests etc. which are all subject to approval before being implemented, of course.
If you purchase a pledge that contains Alpha, you will be able to play Alpha without any further payments until it ends, then once the game goes into Beta, if you have that also included in your pledge, same again, you can play it unrestricted until it ends without incurring any extra fees but once the game launches, you will need to pay a subscription to continue after a possible small free trial but those details are still being worked out.
We will however release more details on this as we get closer to the Alpha, so it is clear for everyone.
I guess it's time to make a very long story very short.

The political correctiveness of this web site is amazing. The twist of words by posters are amazing.
1) Everything I say is based on developers delivering what they say. My opinion on this ?...I think they will try as hard as possible based on meeting the funding goals.
2) This is the only chance we will ever have to see a real mmo again.
3) Twist on words. " I would like to see the game mature a little bit first ", You seem to had missed that part. I would guess on purpose so you can Twist on words.
4) I'll not waste 4 paragraphs, going into extreme detail, when all that is required is two lines. Just to please people like you.
I should stop right here and not buy into " a play on words ". But I'll bite just this once !
I'm not the type to alpha test VERY early stages of development of any game. Others like it, I don't. I would expect many bugs and broken gameplay. This is not my cup of tea to do that !
Later, when the game matures MORE, I will. I would expect bugs and broken gameplay, but at least at a better level.
And most of all, if the game is going as planned, I'll help support it financially. $100 ?...Well, wayyyyy more than that if the game goes in the right direction. $100 is nothing !
So, Is this detailed enough for you Hatefull ?......Or is it giving you more ammo to pick apart using " a play on words ".

I'm not saying everyone will play and I said nothing eluding to that. In the OPs last thread on the exact same topic, I explained that a game like Pantheon will never be a game that the masses play. However, it doesn't have to be in order to be successful.
The point being made that I responded to was that the popularity EQ had was only on account of no real competition early on and that Pantheon will need to somehow achieve that level of popularity to be successful. Both of which are conjectures not sustained by facts.
Classic EQ was nothing like WoW. It would have stood on its own merits regardless if a game like WoW would have launched on the same day, especially early when the two games were drastically different.
It should also be noted that EQ launched at a time when most people didn't even have an internet connection and it still managed to make back the initial investment about a month in. That is huge, and something not even WoW can boast. Those are the important things people should bear in mind while considering Pantheon's viability.
Not if you like PVP and not if you dislike grouping. Hopefully these things and other features the game has will keep many people away.
Yet here you are, a few minuet's after the Op was posted.....See you in game
This whole topic seems like a troll bait.
And no i won't even get anywhere close to this game.
Not Troll bait........It's about the only mmo. Maybe you like the Quick-fun-fun-games passing themselves off as mmos. Just select one of them on the list of over 200.
When everyone is switching over to the only mmo on the market, I would guess you will too, unless you REALLY like quick, cheaply done, small easy games with auto everything.
Hay try this !.....Jump into a dynamic event. Run to the bathroom, take a number two, come back, open the chest and get your blue epic.....now your a winner !!!!!!!
If the game ever gets finished, then i think that will be the time to discuss if its a game that everyone will want to play, at the moment, its just theoretical, and might never actually see the light of day. Hyping up a game that isn't even in alpha yet.. just crazy, yet we see it all the time, people hyping up games in development, and then years later, there is nothing to see still, and thats ignoring any controversial issues concerning funding and whether or not the money is spent in development or on 'whatever'. Truth is, assuming this game ever gets completed, by the time it does, the hype will have long faded and people will be chasing some other dream instead, they might not even remember the games name at that point, or even what it was even supposed to be about. Worth thinking about if considering investing $$ in the game, as with all of these kinds of things, have to be aware that at the end of it, you may end up with nothing to show for it. Its a gamble.
I guess it's time to make a very long story very short.

I know what you mean, but I think the OP is just really excited about the game, or at least what the game promises to deliver.
I hope Brad actually polishes the game before releasing it this time and doesn't go crying back to SOE (Daybreak) when his game fails at launch time. History tends to repeat it's self. Remember Vanguard?
I know what you mean, but I think the OP is just really excited about the game, or at least what the game promises to deliver.
Which is never the same thing but somehow some people don't understand that.
One day, a developer will successfully deliver on everything without having to make cuts of changes, and the world will end... not sure which will come first though.

There are "real" MMORPG's on the market today, you just aren't playing them. Nor does "everyone", they serve a niche market and do so quite well.
The designs this title has will never draw more than a niche, many players actually like to drop a deuce between getting their epics.

The difference is Pantheon actually sounds good on paper which is more than any other game released or in development has going for them. Not sure how people don't understand that.
And every grammatical error. It was tough to read so I'm going to assume his or her first language isn't English.
I love how these propaganda posts appear on the Pantheon forum from time to time. It's as if Brad pays people to go out hype his game. Mr. McQuaid is the reason I won't back this game. I do hope it's successful along with the vast number of other Kickstarter projects that I'm backing. But, Brad's methods don't inspire confidence in me as a consumer. The disaster that was the release of Vanguard and the hideous nature of his failed Kickstarter attempt left a bad taste in my mouth.
At the end of the day Brad McQuaid is going to have to do a lot more than flash his resume around to make this title a success.

Fair enough. At the same time, lets remember Visionary Realms hasn't asked for the consumer's money for nearly 2 years and their only focus is giving potential players something to look forward to.

I'll not touch this subject again !

I'm going back to bed.
The designs this title has will never draw more than a niche, many players actually like to drop a deuce between getting their epics.
