Really only two out there. EVE online, and Elite Dangerous.

Honestly when SC releases it will still be only a fraction of the space sim that EVE is.  It will be far shinier, but shiny isn't depth and social interaction.  EVE has that in spades.

SC is the CoD of space sims while EVE is more like the Red Orchestra of space sims, not as pretty, but far more tactical and deep.

Yeah! While we are on the subject why can I not explore Boston yet in Fallout 4? WTH Bethesda!
This is a stupid comparison.  I didn't PAY $150 for Fallout 4 yet.  I also didn't pay for Fallout 4 because Bethesda just announced it less than a year ago (oh we KNEW it was coming but it wasn't announced).  And Bethesda also didn't get side tracked by making Fallout 4 Arena... and Fallout 4 Squadron 4... and Fallout 4 the view from the vault.

Also, per their own ORIGINAL timeline... by the end of 2015 we should have all the modules to PLAY the game.  With Squadron 42 4 months behind it.
Its kids like you that make it where we can't have anything nice. Most games are announced as they are about to be released. Star Citizen we knew before development which is why we have all you kids in a rush to get it out. You have no idea what goes into making a great game. Teso took seven years, Duke Nukem Forever took 12 years , So SC has only been in development for 3 years. This says something about the mentality of you kids these days. Not-So-Smart shouldn't be criticizing anybody's game until he releases one that is actually a success. Not to mention he is committing fraud  with line of defense.

Don't think associating DNF with SC is a good point to make.
    Just sayin...

It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. It's about cowards hiding behind a screen to they can bully other defenseless players without any risk of direct retaliation like there would be if they acted like asshats in "real life". -Jean-Luc_Picard

    Roughly a million people.

    Have fun

Actually only about 25 thousand people care plus how ever many are at the con itself since that is all that is watching
Not true. Not everyone has the money or time to go to citizencon. Some of us watched live stream. Do us a favor and go troll elsewhere.
You might want to reread my post. I'll rephrase for you 25 thousand watching plus however many are at the con.

Thank you for agreeing with me though and then sticking your foot in your mouth.

I know some of what you wrote is a matter of opinion but did you really just use great game and Duke Nukem forever in the same post together? :P

On topic what does Derek Smart releasing a game that is or isn't a success have anything to do with being able to criticize someone else's game?

I totally agree on the Duke Nukem lol

As far as Derek goes, he is doing a hell of a lot more than just criticize a game. Here he is basically showing motive as well as admitting to previous blackmail, extortion and accessory.

p.s. Derek... if you know a crime has been committed, you don't report it, then you profit from it, it then makes you an accessory to said crime.

No, I can't agree with a lot of that.  For one, you can't just strip people of shares in the company they created.  It's not IPO, so there's no legal method that I know of for doing something like that.  I also would never be okay with taking portions of a company away from someone who built it.  Agree with him or not, Chris made SC what it is.  If it's successful, with or without him, he needs to benefit as the progenitor of the project.

Actually you're wrong. It can be done. It's legal. And I've done it.

What you do is  you offer them a deal and either buy their shares for a small amount based on what the company is valued at the time, or the give it up in exchange for non-prosecution of any uncovered wrong-doing.

And this has nothing to do with people who created a company keeping their shares. It's about the survival of the company and a plan toward a clean slate.

It happens ALL the time. Founders leave without any part of the company. And in most cases, if they refuse to take such deals, that's when very bad things happen.

Oh I saw that post. I have no idea if thats what Derek is going for with Star Citizen since I can't see in his head, just like I can't see in Chris Roberts head.

    [mod edit]

    You're very welcome!

I'm glad that you realize that a game with nearly 17 years of development, hundreds of ships, thousands of ship modules, trillions of ways to fit those ships, hundreds of gatherable resources,  thousands of products that players can build, a 100% player driven economy, and about a dozen other factors that I don't feel like listing at the moment, is going to be far deeper than Wing Commander + Call of Dooty in space.

According to Rob Irving, Lead designer of Star Citizen before he quit:

"The economy will be player-influenced, but not player-controlled"

"We're not making a market sim."

"We are not planning on taking crafting to the level of building actual parts."

"Haggling is a whole lot of coding/design/voice effort for a pretty minor bit of functionality" -So no auctions

"On why players won't be able to build ships (at launch):
    1) Ship manufacturers don't like competition.
    2) We need to keep very tight controls on how many ships are out there. Letting players loose in that world will cause very serious imbalances in the economy."

So yeah, considering that 75% of a space sim is actually controlling the world through players owning and controlling the markets and owning and controlling territory, then my former statement is absolutely still true.

But it will be shinier, I'll give you that one.  At least until Valkyrie comes out.

Eve is BY FAR more deep and complex than Star Citizen is hoping to be at launch. ANYONE who says otherwise is delusional.

Could SC eventually get to Eve's depth over time? Possibly. But for now Eve is still the KING of the Space Sim.

    Bar none.

Coming from a 14 year veteran and great fan of EVE Online ...

others call our game "Spreadsheet Online".

Our enthusiasm for EVE is shared by less and less people, number of players is declining and calling it "King of Space Sims" is optimistic but usually not recognized by the gaming press (MMORPG.com is an exception to the rule .. they LOVE EVE).

I hope - like you do - that Valkyrie will reverse the current downward trend !

    Have fun

Interesting.  I must have been imagining that online space sim I've sunk thousands of hours into over the past 12 years.

Vendetta Online? Although, that's 11 years old, but it's the oldest I know.

Been playing since 2003, some predate me by over a year and are still around.  We all have the alpha/beta badge.
