Did you miss the video section where they jumped to the satellite and fought the ships there? There was also a 4v4 fps on the station near the end. The pirates killed the marines and took their ship. Wondering if maybe you didn't catch those parts?
It's possible as all that was at the tail end of the corridor walking simulator; some people may have turned it off. Like I said earlier, the presentation could probably have stood a bit more gameplay and bit less aimless walking. Exploration is great but somethings only new once. And it's likely that everystation you visit will have that pointless(in some peoples opinion) corridor from ship selector to actuall ship. You know whats going to happen the 1st 10 times or so it's neat after about 100 different people are going to be asking at different stages "why am I doing this again?" You'll be able to cut/paste the same debate over SWTOR transfer stations into the threads hat will start popping up on the RSI boards. Over a 6mo time period I bet the trend lines match almost perfectly.
Yah it is possible people stopped watching and missed it.
It will be interesting to see how people react to it once we can play alpha 2.0. That should create some solid feedback for them at least.
Actually now you mention it, I do vaguely remember some blink-and-you-miss-it moment where some pirates killed some marines and stole a craft or something. I think Chris Roberts sounded slightly apologetic afterwards for the complete absence of any spectacle.
They just showed 20 minutesish of game play ending in a 4v4 and the pirates stealing the marines ship
Actually there was no 4v4 because they never saw each other, they just shot down empty halls, and the "pirates" ran around the other group and took the ship.
The FPS part was pretty non existent if you ask me. I saw someone shoot down the hall with a pistol and someone walking around with an automatic rifle. No one got shot and died at least from what i could see.
There was also no HUD at all. No map, no indicators for your team.

After watching this, it's apparent that The Escapist article could very well be right.
My take away. None of the employees looked all that excited or pumped for what they had to show. The whole thing felt very awkward in presentation to execution. Their demonstration was lack luster as noted above by many. It's not that what they are showing is necessarily bad, it's just that most of it still looks like a proof on concept. With some game stuff kind of thrown in at various levels.
Another bizarre thing was the amount of detail and info given to the motion capture. Really? Did the game get funded for motion capture? Not sure about that one but maybe it did. My point for bringing it up seemed like he REALLY enjoyed going through that part the most. The part where he was basically directing a movie and made a point to talk about that. Which falls right in line with the article that so many like to say is trash. His wife opening it up just set the tone for a really uncomfortable moment. And those tears at the end could of come right out of an Acting 101 class. The flowers at the end and making a point that it came from her team. All I can say is contrived.
Just remember that the fps shown was using the CryEngine. An existing Fps engine. That has things like crosshair built in. Let that sink in for a second and watch the fps demo (if you can call it that) again. 90million dollars folks!
It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. It's about cowards hiding behind a screen to they can bully other defenseless players without any risk of direct retaliation like there would be if they acted like asshats in "real life". -Jean-Luc_Picard

Watch the Press demo version of what they showed in Manchester. You can see more FPS fighting there than in the live stream (a better cutter was at work there it seems). Around 17 min mark.
1) Once AC 2.0 is released, and youtube videos start showing up of boarding actions, space combat, EVAs, and ground combat at the same time, are any of you going to change your minds? 2) How many people would need to be on the FPS area station for AC 2.0 to be considered exciting? 3) What part of the multicrew ships(Constellation,Retaliator) would you be most excited to operate? 4) How would you handle your ship being disabled instead of destroyed, then boarded? 5) Would any of you try to pull a boarding action on another ship?
I could list many more, however I will stop here.
The presentation for me, showed an unlimited amount of freedom, and unpredictability that many games do not have, in an ALPHA STATE intended as test bed for feedback from the players.
Well if they can get the crosshairs working using an fps engine it'll be a start.

I highly doubt that anyone who is harping on the game is going to change their mind on this website. Sorry to break the news.
I don't think it's even about the game for these people. They just need something to do. No different than alien abduction conspiracy theorists - people will believe what they want to believe, absent of facts. Like religion or anything else.
So yeah, the game could be hailed as the greatest game ever released and I think that the vast majority of people who have been shitting on it would continue to shit on it.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that these people are bitching because they care about the game or the "public good" (rofl) or any of the nonsense justification. They're just bitching because they just need something to bitch about. And it's not going to stop. Ever. Haha.

@salaciouscrumbs . Exactly. Which is what get's me in trouble. I would hazard to say most of the people 'discussing' this game have no interest beyond being involved in the drama taking place around it. Little of which has any foundation in reality.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
I will probably buy Squadron 42 when it comes out... I basically buy every game so it would be really unusual for me not to buy this I hope for the backer's sakes that we get a game to buy.
You know what the videos kind of remind me of? X-Rebirth. In that (actually underrated after the patches) game you can walk round in your ship, fly it, climb down the cargo ramp and walk round stations...
I'm getting sick of the drama about this game so I'm probably going to stop following it (slap me if I post about it again) but as I said I hope one day to be able to buy this game to see what they made.
I find it all a bit perplexing. It seems kinda premature for these kind of events. A big whoop was made of the cutscenes, but while they can enhance a great game they do not a great game make. Again premature filming them at this stage, even if the project is being fiscally managed with great precision costs increase and stuff runs over you'd have thought that there would be placeholders for this stuff until core components of the game where further advanced.
Oh and what was all the comparison of the scope of current cutscenes with those from decade and a half old DOS Wingcommander games? Surely better comparison would be with today's 'state of the art' like I dunno games like Witcher 3 or the imminent Fallout 4. I suspect these dwarf the 10 hours they have 'in the can'. I read somewhere F4 has 110, 000 lines of dialogue W3 more. The point is that this is icing (frosting for Americans) not cake.
As for the walking round corridors I'm not sure what that's supposed to illustrate exactly, I suppose that they have a (very) few assets dropped into Cry.
As I started with, I'm perplexed what the event is supposed to achieve. I don't think it's going to attract pledges from new backers so I suppose it's to squeeze more from existing pledgers. Or maybe (as the naysayers might suspect) it's a paid jolly up for a bunch of RSI personnel. Perplexing, really.

Well, it has attrached another 1.5 M$ and almost tenthousand new backers in the last two days. And growing.
The "(very) few assets dropped into Cry" are approx 30 of the best CryEngine programmers in Frankfurt (ex CryTek employees, core team members of the team that developed the CryEngine in the first place). CIG has outright bought the CryEngine... no licensing fees. Over the course of a year the CryEngine has been completely rewritten to a 64 version that allows millions of km instead of 8 km arenas (with same precision).
Wing Commander cutscenes were film/movie. Star Citizen cut scenes are done IN ENGINE. The "filming" in SC was motion capturing and facial impression capturing. Not the filming done like it was done for WC. The data from mocap and facap is being used for the core components. It IS a core component.

It is an impressive demo of thier tech. Hands down, no debate. It is alpha, it has work to do, sure, but it is impressive!
So anyone who says that "haters are gonna hate" are just doing that EXACT thing themselfs.
You can be a sceptic (which I most certainly am) and still see good things for what they are. The world is not black & white...
I went back and re-watched the FPS stuff (the only thing that interest me about this game) and I really do not see an issue. It's smooth enough (keeping in mind alpha), it seems to be all iron sights (google it if you don't know) I would assume based off the announced upgrade system that when you equip a scope you can get your coveted 'cross hairs'. Sort of excited about this project now, if they offer a 'Space Marine' only package I will most likely back.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
"Hey guys! One big clarification from CitizenCon: the Baby PU is NOT
replacing Star Marine, it's simply going to include a lot of the work
we've done on the FPS. We still intend to release Star Marine proper
(with Gold Horizon and the HQ game mode and all that.) In all
likelihood, you'll see Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 first and then Star Marine
proper shortly after that... and we'll continue to update with more
details on both as they're locked down. "
the other side (The Smarty) presents this as:
"Star Marine was quietly canceled at CitCon. Just as I said it was two
months ago when WKs were yelling at me for talking "rubbish" "
Its like watching a metronom. Stick goes right, Stick goes left, Stick goes right again ...
Yeah! While we are on the subject why can I not explore Boston yet in Fallout 4? WTH Bethesda!
This is a stupid comparison. I didn't PAY $150 for Fallout 4 yet. I also didn't pay for Fallout 4 because Bethesda just announced it less than a year ago (oh we KNEW it was coming but it wasn't announced). And Bethesda also didn't get side tracked by making Fallout 4 Arena... and Fallout 4 Squadron 4... and Fallout 4 the view from the vault.
Also, per their own ORIGINAL timeline... by the end of 2015 we should have all the modules to PLAY the game. With Squadron 42 4 months behind it.
Its kids like you that make it where we can't have anything nice. Most games are announced as they are about to be released. Star Citizen we knew before development which is why we have all you kids in a rush to get it out. You have no idea what goes into making a great game. Teso took seven years, Duke Nukem Forever took 12 years , So SC has only been in development for 3 years. This says something about the mentality of you kids these days. Not-So-Smart shouldn't be criticizing anybody's game until he releases one that is actually a success. Not to mention he is committing fraud with line of defense.
I've seen a lot of people say they're unimpressed, all I can say is I want to play the space sims they must be playing right now. What are they called?
