PVE hot spots will be contested and people will kill others so they can PVE themselves.
Is it only me who finds this concept...weird?
I find it stranger that people buy, install, log into, and play a game with PVP and then get upset when they are killed or expected to defend themselves because they just want to PVE.

A game "with PVP" imply consensual, otherwise it would be PVP game, not just "with PVP". Quite reasonable assumption.
There are people who would argue that any game that only has pvp much later in the game is no true pvp game.
There are people who would argue that the karma system is a barrier to pvp (I don't believe this but there are people who insist).
This game has pve up to level 50. If one wants they can stay at level 49 and never pvp.
It's true that it doesn't have a pve "end game" as far as raids but it does have crafting and horse raising and other "pve related" activities. And soon they will add actual dungeons.
It's pvp and pve.

The game has PvE and PvP. I'll play for the PvE like i do in all mmos. I dont attack other players so if i get attacked i will react depending on my mood.
If i feel like defending ill fight back even if i lose, i dont care. If i dont feel like fighting back (which is about 90% of my time in mmos) ill drop the controller (yes ill be playing BDO with a controller), drink some water, respawn and go somewhere else. If a griefer thinks he will get better at his class by killing a motionless toon he is in for a shameful disappointment.

If you want to PVE and I want to PVP, you won't be PVEing. You will be PVEing only if I am not PVPing, therefore making it a PVP game.

Well, if you want to level you are going to have to pve.
So there we are.
Luckily I enjoy open world pvp and pve so there is nothing weird about it.

Dunno...
We have PVE to PVP already and I would say it isn't very popular, in that context PVP to PVE seems absurd.
Well, I suppose for people who want to do one or the other I can see that point.
Since I enjoy both it doesn't seem weird to me. Still, there are people who never want to pvp and people who never want to pve but in games like this they might have to do both.

An element of danger is adds excitement to pve that it can only be compared to fighting a world boss for the first time.
No its not weird or a new aspect but it's one that's hardly used by developers.

You consent by logging in.
"With" doesn't mean you can opt out or don't consent, nor is that some official statement, but simply how I wrote it lol.
BDO has both PVE and PVP. Someone that refuses to do PVE won't be able to PVP and someone that refuses to PVP will either have to limit their experience or just die and be okay with that.
Someone that wants to farm, fish, tame horses or whatever and completely avoid PVP is free to do so, those that want to get past 50 and grind mobs are going to either fight back or roll over.

Yep, that is what I was pointing at. It does not make much to realize it isn't very fortunate design...
It's also not a new design since it's the same foundation Lineage was built on and that's been popular for the last 18 years. It's a design choice millions of people get and like. People play pve for progression and pvp over the resources and land.
Yes, in Asia. Lineage was very hard fail in west, because of what I wrote above. It is not my preference, it is how market in west is.

Western gaming and gaming in general have changed quite a bit in the last 15+ years or so.
"PVP" as a whole completely dominates PVE in popularity now. Maybe not FFA OW kill everything that moves, but overall, player vs player on some level is a lot more popular than grinding mobs only so you can grind more mobs.
Almost every upcoming mmo worth a second look either have or are focused on PVP of some form along with "sandboxish" elements. Companies seem to have wised up that other players and non-combat features are better content than just churning out PVE to fly through and then complain there is nothing to do.
BDO already has 500k pre-orders, even if that drops 50% and they don't pick up one more customer, 250k isn't too shabby for a mmo these days. Again, most upcoming games are aiming at smaller niche demographics instead of trying to hit WoW numbers and be everything to everyone.
Those that want to use a mmo to chat or play in their own little safe world have a few options, not to mention the whole single player library. For the rest of us, there are going to be a lot of choices to compete and interact with others.
