I didn't think that the tokens to be used for after exposition (the three month head start) ended was for EVERYTHING bought in the store.
It was my understanding it was only for select items. Guess there needs to be some clarification on that
Looking through the forums, the private forum info, news posts, and the Discord I believe that all store/promotions can be redeemed with tokens after the game launches.
Things bought with the EP currency in the long promised Exposition Store will need to be used in Exposition or will be converted to “story points”
The only items in the store right now are mounts, pets, and a wagon. (mounts being $10-$30 a piece)
Just so it's clear what (if it's true these can be claimed after launch) can be bought now and acquired post launch.
I'm not entirely worried about someone else having a ton of horses and wagons
You left out the ships, the armor that comes with the ships, the livestock as a farmer.. etc...
It's not whats for sale NOW. It's anything that was sold as an item in the store, and anything that will be sold there. The only exclusion is the Exposition Store which has literally been promised for years but has not materialized.
So please, when making something "clear" please be honest.

You make it sound much worse than it is, I am merely showing what, if someone were to buy into the game right now, could actually do
Don't want to mislead any potential P2Wers that think they'll have an armada if they pledged right now
Stressing about items (that were not cheap I might add) sold for a very small window just seems like making a P2W mountain out of a let's make some money mole hill

Again. ANYTHING they sell in the store. The only exclusion are things bought in the EP store which doesn't exist yet.
All you need to do is change that opening "could buy" to "could have bought" and you got it!
People have actually bought these. Is it that hard to understand? The items above (excluding things like agility colors I assume) are already purchased and players will have tokens that let them redeem them after launch to do things like create ships or manors etc.
and there’s plenty more on the way

In order to redeem these things after launch, you will first have to find a merchant that has them available for you to purchase. It is not a simple matter of using the token and the items appear from out of nowhere, just saying.
I'm just adding context. The only thing you, I, or anyone reading this right now at 846pm EST as I write this on Oct 12 2018 can buy are pets, mounts, and wagons

And to think the argument used to be that it was “Pay to build” because they would all be used to build the world in the Exposition (aka 3 month no wipe head start)...
Guess we know who was proven right on that argument...
And as someone intelligently pointed out on the official forums. This is all just a roundabout way for someone to buy in game “currency” with real money. Buy a “boat” now... cash in your token after launch and trade it to another player for whatever you want...
The community has has already proven to be full of fine upstanding folks that would never do such a thing right?

As a long time EVE player and always MMORPG underdog the concept of these games ever being fair in any manner eludes me nor do I understand why some gamers obsess about making it so.
I have always had to adapt to "unfair" competition, from not having as much free time, not rich enough to buy my wins, (besides being against my morals), to not being born about one generation later in order to have been far more practiced in gaming at a younger age.
Hacks, cheats, meta gaming, head starts, macros, the list of advantages I give away in every game is almost endless.
Any wonder I can usually shrug off most of them as long as they don't noticeably impact my personal experience.
I can agree with this post. And while I get no game can ever be really called "fair". Just people having more time will always be ahead anyway. My main point, I don't think everything should have the same advantage either. Something like map voting. Should just be one vote per backer. Keep making whales feel more special than everyone else, just feels weird to me.
At this rate, SBS is having a history of changing things simply for the whales of this game. Makes me somewhat concerned about any future changes.
In order to redeem these things after launch, you will first have to find a merchant that has them available for you to purchase. It is not a simple matter of using the token and the items appear from out of nowhere, just saying.
That really doesn't change much though. Cause unless all the people that have brought these tokens, are bunched together. The chance someone couldn't redeem a token at any given time, seems pretty dam low.
But even if they struggled for a week or two. It's meant to be a closed economy. If someone happen to have 100 animal tokens. You wipe out their animals, for whatever reason. Thinking you have hurt them. Nope, lucky they have all these tokens.
Which who knows what the future sales will bring to the store. I'm really failing to see why no one seems to care in the community. Unless it mostly comes down to "well there won't be many whales". Which is only true if the game explodes at launch. Or really you have a ton of the population with tokens.
But even if the game does explode, you think any new players will see it the same way? One thing building the world in expo, another thing all together to hold onto tokens for years. I would instantly be turned off "oh you mean all these early backers have stocked up on things I can't even buy anymore?" Yeah I'm out.
I agree to a point Torresk, except as the game progresses so do all of the Crafters with technology.
It wouldn't make much sense to hold on to tokens for years if the items you are waiting to claim are obsolete by the time you choose to claim them
Yeah for some it maybe. But not everything. Which even when they said, only NPCs would be able to accept tokens. So that NPC lost out on money. Then have a useless token.
Maybe I am over exaggerating. It's at least clear who and where these token whales would be. So it's really only one/two servers that are stuffed. Rest should be fine.
Of course I do have a slight concern that they could open up a cash shop after launch, selling tokens. Mostly cause they already changed from their view of "anything brought has to be used in expo". More so seeing how much money they can milk from people.
Keep in mind that all items will not be available for purchase in all areas, and there is no such thing as fast travel. Finding the items might not be as easy as you assume depending on your location and whether or not the items can be found there. Regardless, if you don't like the set up of the game, then don't play it... Easy.

LOL. I can't just say I don't like the way it's going. I have zero problems with how expo is setup to work. I just don't like how this token system is setup. Why don't they just give a 3 month time limit on them? That way anyone that brought them, that isn't in expo. Has easily enough time to redeem them.
But the go to line is "if you don't like it, don't play". Can't show a different view point. Even though SBS has changed somethings from player feedback. But I suppose, whales will protect their stuff. Gotta hold onto those titles as long as possible. Even if they put off players, cause not like CoE is a niche game at all.

That comment wasn't directed at you Torrsk, I perhaps should have been more clear, my apologies. As for debating for CoE in these forums, I gave that up a long time ago. There as so many facets of the game that are unlike the games that many of us are used to, that to try to debate why I believe this isn't something to be really concerned about would only lead into several debates that I have already had here about CoE and to be honest I don't have the time nor the desire to reopen those cans of worms. If you are familiar with the game and really take a good look at the complete picture this isn't really a big issue.

Arguably time is fair. Everyone has the exact same amount of time per day, 24 hours. No more, no less. How you choose to spend that time is up to you.

It's not really that easy. SBS added a clause to their TOS months after KS ended saying they don't give refunds.
What do you say to the backers that liked what they saw promised during KS, but hates every decision and change that has come since?

Why can’t a player just sell the item right back to an NPC? Or to another player? Then the ship, wagon, wartrison he bought becomes money...

Why would things like mounts, houses and ships become obsolete? And even if they did... you could just sell them right back to the NPC for whatever serves as currency. Or what about healing items? Might those that helped with the plague not rise in value when the plague comes? Someone can buy 100 of them. Have tokens that cannot be lost or taken in game, and then make a fortune cashing them in 6 months later when a plague starts.
Honestly this is one of the sillier ideas they are putting out there. They are try8ng to sit on the edge of the pool and just dangle their feet in the water. If you are going to sell cash items that can be used after the game launches then why close the store when it launches? I hate cash shops but this method just locks the advantage to those that buy early.
But maybe we are getting a bit down the rabbit hole as we have threads to talk about the pay for advantage stuff(We includes me).
Back to the maps. I simply hate the idea that once again, CoE is building a system that treats players (not just characters) differently. That someone’s vote can count 1000 times another players should tell you all you need to know.

Arguably time is fair. Everyone has the exact same amount of time per day, 24 hours. No more, no less. How you choose to spend that time is up to you.
One of the weaker arguments, most everyone has real life obligations which reduce their available free time.
Only if independently wealthy with no family ties would a person truly be choosing how to spend their 24 hours.
Using your thinking one could argue that total P2W is fair because everyone is free to spend as much as they wish.
What? Not everyone is a millionaire for...reasons. Same with time, we all have varying amounts of "free" time available to "spend' for ....reasons.

Time is fair. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to have real life obligations. I chose to get married and we just had our first baby in July. Now I don't play games much anymore because instead I choose to spend that time with my family and go to work.
Alternatively, someone else can just as easily choose to not get married, quit their job, live off of relatives or the government and spend every waking hour playing video games.
Either way, we still have the same 24 hours to spend. If someone wants to waste their entire life playing an MMORPG, and they're #1 on the server, is that not fair? They're sacrificing having a life outside of gaming to do that.
However, P2W is fundamentally unfair. Money can be gained through inheritance, chance, dishonesty, hard work, etc. People are even paid differently based solely on their gender or race. Your upbringing and education can have a huge impact on how much you'll earn later in life. It's not fair at all.

At this rate, SBS is having a history of changing things simply for the whales of this game. Makes me somewhat concerned about any future changes.
It wouldn't make much sense to hold on to tokens for years if the items you are waiting to claim are obsolete by the time you choose to claim them
Maybe I am over exaggerating.
The reality will be soul crushing for many as their level of disconnection from reality is probably the greatest I've seen.

What do you say to the backers that liked what they saw promised during KS, but hates every decision and change that has come since?
Then the ship, wagon, wartrison he bought becomes money...
