If it launches as it is(unlikely), it's a "D", maybe an "E". If they squash most of the bugs, and eliminate having to redo the whole episode when you have to abandon the final segment because there aren't enough squads/pickups/etc on the map(or your team doesn't beam down), I'd give it a "B-".
The bugs usually come at the least opportune time, as do the server boots. Usually at the end of a mission chain that takes 45 minutes to complete. Most of my bug reports end with the comment, "Is this a social experiment?".
Why? Other than bugs and lag... how much do you really expect it to improve? I think everyone is addressing legitimate "content" concerns.
Edit: Corrected punctuation... yeah... I'm crazy like that.
Because not everything that will be available in game is available now. So I'm going to wait until I have actually played the full game, not part of it.That's like giving me a sample of food and then asking me to grade the entire menu.
Isn't this the open beta and the game is set to launch in, what, two weeks? Keep saying that major changes or additions will happen before then, only fooling yourself if you believe it. And if anything IS rushed into the game in that time frame, do you honestly feel that it will be benefitial?
You're playing what you're going to get at release, love it or hate it.

If that is true, is it not going to be tested with the general public? And what exactly isn't in the game that will be in for launch and not added at a later content patch/update/expansion? I'm not downing the game in general, but the whole "it's beta" defense doesn't hold water when it's so close to release unless they're pushing it back longer than a month or more.

The whole Genesis system, Deep Space Nine, social hubs, level cap 16 etc.etc. Until I can fully play all this, I can't give the game a grade.
So far from beta I can tell where they spent their time and effort, and where they kind of half assed it. The biggest enjoyment out of this game is the space combat and think they should have really concentrated on that while ignoring ground for now. I think that ground combat really murders the game play for me. If this would have been a space only game it would have gotten a B+ to an A- as it really has this aspect down well.
I believe that my biggest complaint and reasoning for giving the game a lower score is for the clunkiness of ground combat and the very boring tasks and lifeless worlds that you land on. If you are going to make this apart of the game there really needs to be more effort into the detail of the landscape creation, and to the wildlife and inhabitants. This truly needs to be developed if they want to solidify themselves into the market as a real player.
Space combat is great, and creates a lot of interesting options with abilities and weapons at your disposal that you will recognize from the series. I say bravo at the ship design, ship battle damage detail, and the over all options available for a ship.
The controls are simple, the interface is straight forward, but the skills are a little obtuse with their information. This is their downfall as the concentration isn't clear. Now if you are a fan of the original Star Wars Galaxies tree you will love this however as it is set up in a very similar manner.
I would give it an F on the basis as I myself can not put a single skill point into the trees. My 2 friends who played it with me however could. I logged on to their computers with my account and still could not. I reinstalled the game at first thinking it might be a poor install failure. I later realized that it must just be the character or the account due to the odd behavior it has had and the inability to put points into it on my computer or friends comps. A character bug this bad that prevents you from pretty much progressing in the game is a huge critical failure on Cryptics part and pretty much will cause me to uninstall and never buy the game. I think if this is a wide spread bug on characters such as this that they will see an underwhelming launch.
I voted it a "D". Not because I'm a trek fan boi or upset with Cryptic but because of the countless bugs I've run in to and how boring and linear the game-play is. This is Star Trek and all I've done is gone out and shot at things. There is nothing about diplomacy, there is no talking to any of the NPC races, instead you come in guns blazing and shooting the shit out of people. Furthermore, there is NO exploration in this game. None. There was at no point where I felt like there was any exploration in the game at all; unless of course you were trying to find your mission way points through space, which was horribly directed and left you with your thumb up your a** wondering where the hell you were suppose to go. Example:
-"Take this sample of [insert something sci-fi here] that you got off of a ship you blew the hell out of the sky without even talking to the occupants, to Base 120391-293 somewhere in space" -*You head into space and look at the galaxy map, where the base you are looking for isn't listed and you can't search for it because there is no search function even though this base is owned by the Federation you have no clue where it is and none of your resources can tell you so you scream out in Zone chat "Where is Base 120391-293" and if you're lucky, someone may answer. -If no answer then this is the exploration you have to deal with, and its not pleasant. As much as I like the general idea/concepts, they're poorly implemented. Ground combat, while fun, is horribly fragile. God help you if an enemy gets up in your chest because you're not going to last more then a few shots, and the AI that accompanies you is SO dumb that they get stuck on ledges, corners, bodies, pebbles, you name it. Whats worse, is you can't get through things without them. Lastly, space combat is probably the most redeeming quality of this game. Unfortunately it also lacks any real luster. While working the shields and trying to turn the ship so that your stronger shields are facing the enemy is fun, its also... meh. Its the same thing constantly. You don't have "warp power offline", you don't get "plasma leaks" or things of that nature, its just very... anti-climatic. Furthermore, you'll be able to take down a fleet of ships and then you come across one large ship and you can't do shit. Whats worse is you leave the mission for help and its a gamble whether it will reset or not and if you can both get into the same instance to defeat the ship together.
In all reality, the game could be better and I realize its only in beta, but lets be honest here... its a month from launch, what can they really fix/make better in that time frame?
Another clueless person.. dude, they turned all that stuff off so they can stress test the game and server. You do not deserve to be in BETA, you wasted a beta spot.
So the concensus seems to be that the game in its current state is an Average to Below Average gaming experience. Lets keep our fingers crossed that Cryptic will work to improve the game.
if they listen to the player base the game will advance to above average status and be successful. However, if they keep it as is now and don't advance it properly then the game is gonna fail pretty bad.

I'm speaking from CLOSED Beta experience. I know what they did in open beta.
EDIT: Also, you make a good point. They turned all that stuff off that is now untestable for how long in open beta? And the game is how many weeks away from going live? I don't think I'm the clueless one here.
"And after blizzard takes over the world, they are gonna gather a bunch of lemmings, sit on their fat asses near a cliff, and watch the little fuzzy bastards suicide dive into the ground below. . . . . all just for their own entertainment."
I would actually give the space portion of the game a B, but the ground portion is so simplistic and awful even though it's not where you spend the majority of the game least far as I got lowers the grade of the game as a whole for me.

I have no idea what all this beta babble is about,i saw nothing that made me think Beta,it is just a game that does not suit me,i see nothing changing past beta, that is your game you will see come launch.I did not see any flaws other than it's design witch does not meet my standards or suit me,witch ever way you wan to take it.

For the right people it will probably be fun. In many ways it feels more like "a game".
Might just be my issue but though I had fun I was a bit loathe to go back and gear up or even pick stuff to level up. I think part of this was because I wasn't immediately clear on what I should be striving towards as far as equipment. Another thing which I didn't like but it might just be my failure to understand the game was that when I was leveling up I would get options but it seemed like I would have to level one area in order to get to the next option. Yet in some cases I wasn't really interested in that particular area and wanted the option after it.
In any case I did have fun and loved the custom alien I made.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I gave it a "C". It's just a space shooter. The lack of crafting necessity, the failure to properly capture the IP, and the bad instancing are just some of the reasons behind my grade.
So the concensus seems to be that the game in its current state is an Average to Below Average gaming experience. Lets keep our fingers crossed that Cryptic will work to improve the game.
I really hope they do for those that plan on getting this game and staying around for the long haul, but I'm a bit sceptical of this company. They haven't really done much with CO far as I've seen. Granted it is still early in that game's life.
Hope so anyways for those that plan on subbing.

I have given it a B. Keep in mind i have only seen a small part of the game upto level 16. I have encountered only 2 bugs so far in beta, which i reported so they can fix. It was better than i expected and for me its been a fairly bug free experience, which i understand is not the samefor everyone. Once they launch the exploration generator and have a few more races i think it will evolve into quite a nice game. If your not sure join beta with a pre order you can cancel otherwise waith a month or 2 till after launch personally ill be sending klingon warrior's charred lifeless bodies back to their mothers, as soon as it launches. hmm i wonder if klingons have xmas cause if they do i could kill them in front of thier families xmas day.
The game is just an arcade. I give it an 'A' as an atari asteroids replacement, but would have to down-grade that for being over-priced, and an f as an mmo or mmorpg for its complete lack of anything remotely resembling anything that should be expected from an 'A' title in 2010, aside from being able to log-in and see other subscribers doing nothing.
Its a c-d as is. But it could be a lot better by launch and shortly after so...
Its still to mutch like Champions online though... even the star trek sound effects sound like they were pulled from CO...

You do realise there is crafting but not everything is activated in beta they are more worried about getting quest right and combat, i do believe crafting and more areas will open later in beta.

Dude, there's just not much else to the game. You don't think they are hold back major content so they can perfect it in one week before release, do you? That's crazy talk. You can't do much to major content in just one week of a work...you could get SOME bug fixes done, but not much beyond that.
Why do some people always think there's some sort of awesome content that the Devs hard holding back a week or two before release? At that point OB is largely just good for advertising the game and witholding major features is just shooting themselves in the foot. Well, in addition to the fact that not having it out there earlier to test is also shooting themselves in the foot.
Yeah, there are more sectors to show, but those sectors will play just like the current ones do (which, unsurprisingly pretty much play identically).

Nothing special to see here. I'd actually give the space combat a B-, but then the ground I'd give a D... so I guess it evens out at about a C.
