I give it a solid B. Without any preconceptions of what it "should be" or trek nerd wankery (half the shit they complain about with the IP tends to be overly examined or flat out false), the game itself is fun. It's clear there is much they still want to flesh out, but the ideas are solid, the current game is fun and should last quite a bit, and overall it's a decent game. How quickly they keep up with content, how they use their "cryptic store" and such are going to determine if it moves itself to a B+/A, or if it is going to merely stick to being a C+/-. The story content is what is keeping it fun/fresh for the most part, and if they just let that fall to the way side and make randomly generated crap from release on out, its going to get boring quickly. Bugs I'm not even concerned about, as I haven't had any that have even been an annoyance let alone a game breaker for me, and they seem to be working on them rather quickly at the moment. Once again, things depend on if they will continue their current pace or let things linger for months on end. I was tempted to vote it A anyway just to counteract the expected trolls who are going to vote F regardless over some bitter agenda against Cryptic.

well said and pretty much exactly what i was plannin on saying, you just beat me to it.
I would give it more, but too many unknowns at this point, the combat is awsome, without a doubt. Now I just hope they can add a little Klingon content and I will be good to go!

I gave it a C but its closer to a C-. I have been playing a while now , for the last few weeks of closed beta and now in open. Its a fun game overall just very buggy still. It also lacks depth for long term play though hopefully this will change as time goes on. I have enjoyed my beta time with the game but I wont be pre-ordering or playing at release. i think the game needs more time and work spent on it before I am ready and willing to pay for it.
I plan on waiting a few months and seeing how the game develops and possibly for the free trial to come out then picking it up.
I gave it a "C". It's just a space shooter. The lack of crafting necessity, the failure to properly capture the IP, and the bad instancing are just some of the reasons behind my grade.
You do realise there is crafting but not everything is activated in beta they are more worried about getting quest right and combat, i do believe crafting and more areas will open later in beta.
I realize there is crafting in the game, but there is no reason to do it. Like Champions, it's just tacked on to say, "Yes, we have crafting." Since it's about two weeks from launch, I think what you see is what you get with crafting.

Which personifies the shallowness of game-play in general i think. People might have a pre-conceived notion that this game will play like many mainstream mmorpgs, but though the 'elements' are there, doesn't mean the content your accustom to is there.

If crafting isn't a core element in a game, I'd say just leave it out. Having a tacked in minigame to try and woo some of the crafter crowd just won't cut it. Crafting is an all or nothing system that can't be added later. Even games that have fully fleshed out crafting systems wimp out and won't give decent equipment just from crafting.
STO's crafting could of drawn a page from galaxies engineer. Allowing the crafter to make ship upgrades, or even ship plans for new ships. All I saw was a few expendable items.
This game has a lot of "game-breaking" bugs. I know it is in BETA for all of you who think that is a solid defense but the server wipe and head-start program launches in 10 days. I highly doubt the worse bugs will be patched by then. When I say game breaking bugs I am talking about:
1. The friendly bug in ground PVP - you spawn in and everyone, even the enemy are friendly to you. You cant shoot anyone, all you can do is run and try to hide somewhere. Even when you die, you come back the same way.
2. Ground PVP is all one-shot kills, it all boils down to who clicked on their special button first. As a science officer I can freeze you for several seconds and then take my time finishing you off. A tactical officer has damage specials that can one-shot you as well. The winning team in ground PVP is the one that runs around together in a big mob spamming specials. Once you start losing, several of your team quit and leave you outmanned and your team loses even faster.
3. Many long mission episodes are broken. There are some episodes that can take over 30 minutes and have multiple parts and the last part is bugged so it will not complete. You have to just leave and restart the mission again, 30 minutes wasted and no reward for your efforts.
4. Some missions dont scale down and you have no idea which ones will. I have jumped into missions and been attacked by battleships in my light crusier and I have been on others where the mission only spawned lighter enemies based on how many where in my team. It works great and it really helps when you dont have any friends on but I cant find a way of knowing which missions will do this.
On the plus side, the space combat can be very tactical. I played with someone last night and we were able to take on several much larger ships together in our light crusiers in a battle that seemed to take over half an hour. Having four different shields and power levels really has a big impact on how your ship handles and the tactics you can use.
I also like the space graphics. I have just about everything turned to high and some of my screenshots are just awesome. The detail on the ships and the explosions are very nice. I enjoy the sounds as well. I have been know to fire off a torpedo into a target with full shields just to hear that noise a torpedo makes.
For me, its a done deal. I''m a star trek fan and this is the only place to get my star trek groove on so I purchased the lifetime sub. I'm both happy and sad about things in the game but I was expecting that at this point. In a few months after it launches, I will be able to tell you if I regret the lifetime sub. Right now, we are only seeing level 16 and lower content so there is a lot we have not seen. I only hope when I get to it that its working.

Instances, quests, auction house and it is solo focused: All the things i hate in MMOs. I am not sure why i gave it a D and not a straight F.
"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."
I gave it a "D". It really doesn't seem ready to be released yet. I found lots of bugs just through three days of playing. I found combat to be somewhat tedious. Space battles were just about circling around, and ground combat was shooting at the same uninteresting characters over and over. There also didn't seem to be much of an MMO part to it. It was like a bunch of people playing solo games in the same environment.
The only thing saving this is the Star Trek license, which will make people want to try it and give it the benefit of the doubt. It's a game to possibly check out in another 6-9 months.
Lots of fun and challenge in game for my satisfaction. Can't wait till Deep Space Nine open ups. This website is notorious for its negativety so i am not surprised by C and D scores.
As a closed beta tester my only comments that I can be arsed to make about this game are:
Its a travisty; a mockery of the Star Trek IP and overall just a failure of a game.
F- Cryptic fails hardcore.
Level of interest in excuses by game developers and fanbois as to the terrible state of game development. --- Previous Games: E&B, SWG, GW, COX, EVE, TR, LOTRO, CO Currently Playing: Nothing - WTB sandbox games!

Do you realize the same poll ran on the Star Trek Online website resulted in 300ish testers saying that the game was a D? And that was when I gave up on this game about a week ago. For all I know the thread is still going.
This game so fail isn't not funny. People holding their breath for Cryptic to "right the wrongs" and "fix all the bugs" or even "add more content" clearly don't know about how Champions Online when down.

I gave it a C with the chance of being raised to a B. However this game will never be an A no matter what they do. Cryptic games are designed to be quick to make and shallow as hell. They are fun for a month then its on to the next game.
I give Fallen Earth a C also......... however it has all the potential in the world to be an A+ title.
Just some reference.
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World
It's not a terrible game. I think they'll clean up the technical issues just fine. It's just not enough for me for the price they are asking, especially when they are clearly setting up the game for microtrans. If they lowered the initial price and the monthly fee, I might actually consider it.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
If they can clean up the bugs, make the ground missions and combat more crisp then it will move to B. It is a fun game but due to the nature of the content they had to make some compromises that may be problems for the hardcore.
