MMOluva pretty much summed up skilling, be bored and do the same thing over and over and over again.

Then you can go and fight other cookie cutter players in PvP, OH JOY! ^^

Ok so that says a lot about how you perceive this game. It's also a terrible analogy.

Look this isn't a career, it's a game. You can have all the fun you want in the beginning, or you can "save yourself" in solitude grinding away until the day finally comes when you feel you're ready and adequate. The choice is yours.

If you want to reach the "ultimate PVP" as quickly as possible, man you signed up with the wrong game. This isn't Planetside, they never claimed it was.

P.S. I heard SOE was planning some sort of huge update/sequel for Planetside. Keep your fingers crossed. That game will probably be right up your alley.

I'm having a good time playing Darkfall but production is dictating that I play in this manner until certain game goals are reached.  I'm playing the way I am because it is the fastest way to PVP.  Swimming 12-15 hours a day has been a nice break from the 5,000+ mobs I've killed in PVE.  After my swim is complete I'll regain my enthusiasm to continue my 4,000+ mobs of PVE that remain.  After this work is complete I'll hopefully be able to experience this great PVP that has been awaiting my arrival.

Why not just team up and pvp in you clan from the start? Why not just play naturally and have skills come as you play more? Why artificially work the system when you can do the stuff you want and skill up?

There are prerequisites to getting a degree in industrial chemestry, yet none in darkfalls pvp.

Get a clan, team up and go kill people.

Who told you had to have the best stats to even start pvping?

I think you missed the point. And what happens when you don't have a team to join? Then you are stuck working on your huge PVE grind and you are just that much farther behind me in terms of stats/skills. I don't know where you got the idea that I want the best stats either. Its simply a matter of increasing the probability of success in PvP since the game isn't player-skill based. You have to increase your numbers. If I tried PvP'ing right now I will die a certain % of the time, this is a very high percentage if you are anywhere near new. The quicker you get your huge PVE grind out of the way, the quicker you can not have to rely on groups to PvP, and you only need to get to a certain point before you never have to PVE again. I will be done with this and PvPing by myself far before someone who waits around all day for a clan group to PvP, and grinds in the freetime.

Its a horrible analogy if you dont understand it. The point of college is the degree. The point of darkfall is PvP. Why would you waste time that could be spent toward those goals? If shooting mana missles at people for 12 damage, never killing anyone and getting killed seemingly instantly is someones idea of fun, they probably don't have the resolve to commit to an efficient grinding regiment. The point of getting the huge PVE grind out of the way as quick as possible is so that you spend more time being strong than you spend being weak and relying on groups to PvP.

this is what we've ALL been asking, in every one of these threads that the OP (and a couple others) keeps making.

It seems they are determined to make life hard on themselves. BUT.....that is their right....after all, it IS a sandbox game....there's no "right" way to play ;)

    Darkfall is PVE

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/271099/4217-Mobs-closer-to-a-chance-at-PVP.html

The threads I have made since my first day of Darkfall is merely giving those that have an interest a look inside on my personal Darkfall journey.  If a new player is thinking about giving this game a try after reading my threads I would hope that it would help them enjoy their stay in-game.  I think the readers have figured this out because of the PM's I receive about these threads.  All I'm doing is trying to explain my personal journey and nothing more.  If my threads offend your perception of Darkfall please refrain from reading or posting inside my threads.  People have stated that my threads are easy to recognize due to their fiery nature so they should be easy for you to avoid.  I enjoy this game and give my Darkfall experience unselfishly to those potential new players I hope to play with in the future.

I've never ran into a group while hunting in enemy lands. Also I get tons of regs and gold off of the people I kill, sometimes more than I would get if I ground on mobs. Also I've hunted people for runs up to 8 hours straight without ever dying and I wouldn't be participating in my huge PVE grind if I didn't know I could solo just fine.

No I got your very simple analogy, don't worry.

You need to use your time wisely in Darkfall. Part of my day consists of getting my skills and stats up, crafting the many things I need, making up ready bags, amongst other things. The rest is spent with friends and clanmates PVPing. There is nothing stopping you from getting into a good group (you should be clanned at this point if you're not already) and spending some of your day PVPing. Have some fun mixed in with your work. It's ok and it's......fun. Remember the whole game concept.

If you had a little more enjoyment in game seasoned in with some of those Chemistry classes, your sig might not be such a stab at a game you're paying for.

Then for your sake, I hope it's worth it.

I'll be honest with you though bud, you're missing out on the journey for some odd need to only realize the destination. And holy hell the journey in this game is fantastic.

BTW Aventurine will be adding skills to this game every now and again, so you will always be playing some sort of catch up. It's inescapable.

Join a mature good sized clan, go out and play yourself some Darkfall. Please come back and share your experiences.

When our Clan was in an alliance that held Gulghat for a long time we used to AFK swim under the bridges in town all night because their were enough people at the Church Bloodwall that if anyone got over the walls and past the towers that they would focus on them and leave us alone!

If you elect to play the swim game I would highly suggest playing another mmo while swimming because it can get dull rather quickly watching your characters head move up and down.

YOU chose to play Darkfall. YOU decided that you must have your swimming skill above 50. Unless there is some invisible hand forcing you to play the game, STFU or move on to some other MMO.

    Do you play Darkfall?

The reason I ask is you would know that I wouldn't be swimming to increase my swimming to 50.  I'm trying to get my STATS to 50.  At 40-75 stats you unlock new abilities.  My swimming has been maxed out for a long time.  I enjoy this game but thank you for the recommendation.

I played Darfkall from release through December 2009. I do not play DFO any longer.

I realize that swimming increases stats also, but why the need to rush to the top of the skill tree? Like I said before, no one is forcing you to do it -- it's your choice if you want to rush through your skills. The game developers never hid the fact that stat development takes TIME.

The problem with games like Darkfall isn't the game itself, its the players that can't stand it if they aren't "uber" right out of the gate. Its the same mentality that causes WoW players to play for two days straight, getting to the top level. I don't call that playing a game, I call that an obsessive/compulsive disorder.

However, I applaud your creativity in writing a post that attempts to distract the readers from noticing the fact that you are WHINING.

Rush to get there? I dont think you get it if you dont put that kind of time in you will never get there. The game is obviously ment to be grinded. I read an article where some guy did some math and figured that if he used one of the self buffs only when needed with no grinding it would take him over 2 years of playing to max one out. WTF.

You'll never "get there"....there is nowhere to "get".

There is NO max level.....there is NO magical line that you cross and suddenly you're at "end game".

This is another example of theme-park mentality at work.....people are so used to rushing to cap, so that the "real game" can begin.

Darkfall does not work that way. If you rush to "catch up" all you will do is frustrate yourself...because you CAN NOT catch up. The people you are trying to catch up to are still progressing...meaning that you're treading water.

Accept the fact that other people have played the game longer, and just have a good time. PLAY THE GAME, and you will advance naturally.

WTF.

Get there? Get where? I didn't know we had a destination. I thought MMOs were about the "ride". Silly me for playing MMOs for relaxation and entertainment.

Sure but whats your point. Its still possable to have a journey after character max isnt it. I dont see the point it just makes for unbalanced PVP.

Please, if you haven't played Darkfall don't buy into this.

Hmmm, treading water indeed. Well said and great post.

Actually every skill caps out eventually. Stats cap out. HP caps out. You can catch up. And if you "play" the game you will be even farther behind. Someone that started playing the game the same time i did and "played" the game would be lightyears behind, and months into the future they would be into a different galaxy.

There is a magical line and that is different for each person. That magical line is when your probability of winning based on the level of your spells/skills is at a point that you are satisfied with. At this point you no longer need to continue your huge PVE grind. Theme park mentality applies just fine because darkfall isn't a sanbox game.

You're forgetting that there are.....a SHITTON of skills in Darkfall. While you're busting your ass to get 2 magic schools to 100 intensify, the people ahead of you already have those schools at 100 intense, and are working on 3, 4, etc.

While you are busting ass to get 100 mastery in your melee weapon of choice, there are players who are on their third weapon already.

By the time you catch up to where they are now, they will still be way ahead of you. And then AV will add more skills.
