Sure but whats your point. Its still possable to have a journey after character max isnt it. I dont see the point it just makes for unbalanced PVP.

    THERE. IS. NO. CHARACTER. MAX.

There is no "balance". There isn't meant to be. Everyone is at their own level of development, and this will never change.

You'll never "get there"....there is nowhere to "get".

There is NO max level.....there is NO magical line that you cross and suddenly you're at "end game".

This is another example of theme-park mentality at work.....people are so used to rushing to cap, so that the "real game" can begin.

Darkfall does not work that way. If you rush to "catch up" all you will do is frustrate yourself...because you CAN NOT catch up. The people you are trying to catch up to are still progressing...meaning that you're treading water.

Accept the fact that other people have played the game longer, and just have a good time. PLAY THE GAME, and you will advance naturally.

Actually every skill caps out eventually. Stats cap out. HP caps out. You can catch up. And if you "play" the game you will be even farther behind. Someone that started playing the game the same time i did and "played" the game would be lightyears behind, and months into the future they would be into a different galaxy.

There is a magical line and that is different for each person. That magical line is when your probability of winning based on the level of your spells/skills is at a point that you are satisfied with. At this point you no longer need to continue your huge PVE grind. Theme park mentality applies just fine because darkfall isn't a sanbox game.

You're forgetting that there are.....a SHITTON of skills in Darkfall. While you're busting your ass to get 2 magic schools to 100 intensify, the people ahead of you already have those schools at 100 intense, and are working on 3, 4, etc.

While you are busting ass to get 100 mastery in your melee weapon of choice, there are players who are on their third weapon already.

By the time you catch up to where they are now, they will still be way ahead of you. And then AV will add more skills.

Even if having that many weapon skills/magic schools maxed mattered, it still caps eventually. You don't need 4 maxed out elemental schools and 3 different weapons with maxed mastery to pass the magical line and be done with your huge PVE grind.

Hmmm, treading water indeed. Well said and great post.

My Great Axe stopped treading water at 100 six days ago.

Hmmm strange I dont know where I picked up a theme park mentality since I have never played one. I played UO, AC darktide, Shadowbane, and SWG. Srry I dont understand your themepark comment. All good games where new players could catch up.

Nothing personal.....just people in general these days are so used to the "race to level cap" mentality. The in the odd case of a game where there IS no cap....they simply don't know what to do.

Some continue to try to race there....either never realising that it's simply not possible, or retreating into denial when people try to explain it to them.....as you can see from this forum.

I've got a couple guildies that I'd love to introduce you to.

Ah, and let's not forget people like (clan name removed for tact), who love to chain-cast surging nukes on you with 100 intensify. They'll kill you and your friends before you even see their tags.

You try to melee something like this, and they'll mow you down from a mount with 100 1h mastery. Unhorse them, and you face multiple r60 keened weapons at mastery. Try to run and you'll get arrows in the back....or more surging nukes.

THE POINT, is that more skills leads to versatality. The more skills you have, the more choices you have in battle, and the more unexpected your actions will be.

You can NEVER catch up. Yeah, EVENTUALLY you can have all the skills in the game RIGHT NOW maxxed out...but by then there will be more skills to "grind".

It's like a junkie "chasing the dragon". No matter how close you get....it will always be out of reach.

I think you forgot about the magical line. The 4% of people that I encounter with all that bologna you mentioned don't matter, mostly because I never see them but more because the amount of effort to get the extra skills maxed isn't even worth it due to the infrequency of encounters. No matter how hard you try you can't use a 2 handed sword and a 2 handed axe at the same time. You can catch up in this game just like you can catch up in any game.

If you elect to play the swim game I would highly suggest playing another mmo while swimming because it can get dull rather quickly watching your characters head move up and down.

YOU chose to play Darkfall. YOU decided that you must have your swimming skill above 50. Unless there is some invisible hand forcing you to play the game, STFU or move on to some other MMO.

    Do you play Darkfall?

The reason I ask is you would know that I wouldn't be swimming to increase my swimming to 50.  I'm trying to get my STATS to 50.  At 40-75 stats you unlock new abilities.  My swimming has been maxed out for a long time.  I enjoy this game but thank you for the recommendation.

I played Darfkall from release through December 2009. I do not play DFO any longer.

I realize that swimming increases stats also, but why the need to rush to the top of the skill tree? Like I said before, no one is forcing you to do it -- it's your choice if you want to rush through your skills. The game developers never hid the fact that stat development takes TIME.

The problem with games like Darkfall isn't the game itself, its the players that can't stand it if they aren't "uber" right out of the gate. Its the same mentality that causes WoW players to play for two days straight, getting to the top level. I don't call that playing a game, I call that an obsessive/compulsive disorder.

However, I applaud your creativity in writing a post that attempts to distract the readers from noticing the fact that you are WHINING.

Rush to get there? I dont think you get it if you dont put that kind of time in you will never get there. The game is obviously ment to be grinded. Why are you guys soloing in a group focused pvp game?

Social skills people!!! If you cant find a active clan that plays when you do and is willing to group up then its your failure as a mmo player.

Lets stop blaming the game shall we?

    [Mod Edit]

the only reason be swim is because you CAN do it afk, even then its barely worth it. to get 50 stats from swimming alone will take you 5 years. the gains for swimming are RUBBISH. besides they already nerfed it, it used to be good for quickness but now it just sucks.

play the game how it is supposed to be played, level your character by pve. this way you will get the skills you need and know how to use them plus lots of money! skills are more important than stats.

macro spells like buffs sure, but afk swimming, especially when not afk! is a total waste of your time. if your at the keyboard and want stats and dont want to pve ATt LEAST HARVEST!. you can do this semi afk too and it will get you 10x the stat gains plus make you alot of money!

Grouping in this game would be overkill and soloing is just fine.  I've been playing over 7 weeks and seldom see groups of players roaming around.

Because the game offers you the freedom to play like a retardet you shouldn't do it, Consensus was just helpfull enough to give you tips how to raise your efficiency in game. AS for me i am not that friendly and advice everyone just to ignore you because you simply CANT play that retarded how you describe and you are totally dishonest about HOW you play the game.

Watch VR accelarated charecter advancement and learn2play.

That goes for others intrested in the trial too, visit theinformation stickies and watch the tutorial vids from helpfull people and be able to beat the hell out of OP in case he really believe in HIS way of being efficient lol

Overkill? I would rather group up with my buddies in DF than swim all day trying to be some solo good at pvp.

All that prep work could be avoided by just playing the game with other people.

AV designed this game as a group focused experience, why dont people play it that way?

Is it that hard to find a nice clan? can't make two to three friends that play during you prime play time?

Ask  any sane person if they would want to pvp on day one with a couple people or swim for weeks just to solo pvp and be a sheep anyway. see which one they would pick lol.

Sad thing is your gonna get destroyed anyway, once a group comes down even with newbs your going to get destroyed.

I know people like this in Eve, they stay in safe space making isk adn waiting on skills then they lose that nice jacked up BC to a newb in a rifter.

How is the concept of harvesting for str/vit instead of swimming not true?  If you're going to play the entire game semi-afk you may-as-well harvest.  Plus you could sell the mats you get for real life money.  Who cares if you get banned since you don't even play the game.

    "misdirection"??

Yeah.....ok. Look, it's OBVIOUS that you and a couple others around here would just LOVE to scare off potential players by making them think that the game is grind 24/7, or swimming into walls for day, etc.

However, thread after thread of this nonsense is FULL of people who actually play the game (and many of us for a good long time) telling you that this is simply not the case. Many of us have gone so far as to give you advice to help you develop your character FASTER than the methods you claim you "must do".

You hve chosen to play the game in an....odd manner. But you don't HAVE to play it that way. Trying to convince others that the game must be played in your strange way is kinda weak...and a bit trollish....especially when you claim that vets trying to be helpful are "misdirecting".

I'mm step up right now and say this: if anyone is "misdirecting" around here, it's you.

macro spells like buffs sure, but afk swimming, especially when not afk! is a total waste of your time. if your at the keyboard and want stats and dont want to pve ATt LEAST HARVEST!. you can do this semi afk too and it will get you 10x the stat gains plus make you alot of money!

    All of this is untrue.

This type of misdirection might have worked before the $1 trial but it doesn't work now.

How is the concept of harvesting for str/vit instead of swimming not true?  If you're going to play the entire game semi-afk you may-as-well harvest.  Plus you could sell the mats you get for real life money.  Who cares if you get banned since you don't even play the game.

Hi and I hope you are still enjoying your time in-game:)

Go hit a tree and time it, next go swim and time it.  After doing those two things factor in your time in-between trees and running to and from the bank and you will have the answer.  The answer is the swim game is more productive.  You will find that when he says harvesting takes 10x less time it's just untrue.

Yeah 10x is untrue, but you can get roughly the same gains by harvesting plus if you do it for as long as you're planning on doing it, you'll be rich and be able to max out armorsmithing and weaponsmithing, which would be great if you ever get around to, you know, playing the game.

    Lets see...

I played Darkfall for 4 months after release.

I afk swam EVERY NIGHT back then, and gains then where higher than they are now.  Stopped playing when my str was at 50.

I came back 2 weeks ago and started harvesting.  My str is 60 now.

    So what's faster now?
