GW2 will do great, because the company making it seem to know what people want IF and its a big IF they can deliver (and seriously I remember all the broken promises of GW 1) then they will do well.

However it will not matter to wow subscribers, and right now blizzard is more interested in retention and attracting enough new players to offset the few who leave rather than building up more fans from scratch.  It will sell well because of its model and the polish that it seems to be having applied to it.  However, if it had a monthly subscription I dont think it would do anywhere near aswell.

Stop calling games wow killers, at best we will get games to give blizzard competition, which is a good thing trust me.

Think the game will do well actually, perhaps not compete to WoW but still do great!

Then ofcourse we got Rift, not sure about that one though... !?

And we got Star Wars The Old Republic coming up and that game looks quite promising.

    Well, we'll see...

Been slowly dropping eh.  While TERA and TOR have slowly climbed and Rift skyrocketed since the betas have been going.

Yes, this game will be the WoW killer!  It will have way more subscribers than World of Warcraft!  Oh wait...

GW2 hype started going down at the same time of Rifts sudden hype rise. Hmm, what a coincidence. But don't worry, it seems someone is working to fix the situation.

GW2 have not announced anything new in a long time. Wait until after thursday when they reveal the guardian with vids and so on before you check again.

Rifts rise is from Trion handeling the beta better and better, and the fact that many people are surprised that someone is releasing a game that isn't broken. They lost a lot in the start of the beta with how the initial handout of VIP keys but now have a lot of people been able to try it out and the score have been rised again.

What's with all the comments re: subscriptions?

I mean if you are broke, a student, unemployed (or all of the above) then I understand... but I've always thought of the limiting factor in my MMORPG play as time, and not money (since these games take so much time compared to a typical console game, for example).

If GW2 is better than WOW, why play WOW at all - and waste valuable hours you could be spending in GW2? (And spend the saved $15 on your GF or something!)

Nah, hype doesn't rise that high and that fast just because a game isn't broken.

If you don't have to pay for Guild Wars 2 monthly, then you can keep your subscription to WoW as well!  Meaning, this won't be a game to topple WoW.

Agreed. While less money never hurts it is not the reason I at least choose a game.

But alting a second MMO have itäs points, even if I plan to alt with WoDO since it differs so much.

The thing with time Vs money is that you usually lack one or the other. I know people who choose to be poor and work part time or even stay unemployed to game, they havbe very little extra money but just sitting home like a sack of potatoes is rather cheap. And few of the people thinking like that have a GF, surprising, huh?

Why pay $15 for a game you don't play anymore? (Assuming GW2 > WOW)

Not just but it is part of it. Another part as I said is that it dived because many got upset about the early VIP beta keys.

Of course it also is because a lot of people like what they see, if they hated it the game would plummet.

But a solid game actually goes far, that is why Wow won against EQ2 (well one of the reasons at least) that released almost at the same time, EQ2 was broken and buggy. While a good coded game doesn't need to become huge no broken game can even get big.

I assume the poeple on this site play multiple MMOs... but I don't think they represent the 12 million players (most of whom are "casual") that play WOW. I know 45 year old accountants with 2 kids, 25 year old PHD students, and many others, who only have 3-8 hours to play an MMO per week. There's no way they'd be able to play 2+ mmorpgs. I think the majority of WOW players are probably "casual" in this sense (and not the type to quit work for video games)... and I think that's important --> most WOW players only have time for 1 game.

What does WoW have? 2-3 million subscribers (real numbers, not propaganda numbers) ?   How many dents do you think the game can take before servers start to merge?

In all fairness, Cataclysm is claimed to have sold almost 5 million. Since that happened last month, I'd assume they have at least that many subscribers.

So a player chosen rating (normally based off hype) makes it a WoW killer? For one, NO ONE here knows how the outcome fo the game will be and has really even played it (exception of few who have at the con's). Let's wait until a beta comes out before we judge.

Agreed, not sure how a hype meter on one site makes it an official wow killer. I guess i should tell G4tv that.  Somehow i don't think they will take this as proof, it's just a player rating on this site.

Gw2 does look good, but I don't see it as thenext big thing either.  It will do well, but i dont see it toppling wow.  To even say such a thing is likely to bring every person onto you picking your game apart. Why would you want that? you want people to like your game not tear it apart until it's in tattered rags on the floor.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Who gives a shit?  WoW could have 50 million players and continues to stay online to 2050, I don't care WoW doesn't appeal to me anymore.

For awhile I enjoyed it, now I don't.  What's up with everyone wanting something to fail because THEY don't like it.

people care because they want everyone to stop playing WoW and play the game they like/think they like instead.

    Blizzard did. Would they lie?

That number can be easily verifiable through their vendors (WALMART, Best Buy, etc). Also, making a false statement on their financial reports and shareholder publications would be a criminal offense.

So I'd say that it's probably accurate. They'd have much to lose if they were to be lying, and very little to gain.

If GW2 does kill WoW the onyl thing that will change on these forums is that people will be bemoaning aobut how everything since is a GW2 clone, hoe GW2 is why MMORPGs suck now and guessing what will be the GW2 killer.
