Warhammer was so fun and promising for the first 20 level or so. it was everything a open world pvper would want. it was like WoW on steroids with better graphics, collision detection, public quests, etc, etc. somehow, after level 20 it just tanked big time. cc was just rediculous. class imbalance was atrocious, zones were poorly designed and felt funneled, quests got boring. the worst part about War is just how fast it all fell apart after level 20. so sad because it was so fun at lower levels.
SWTOR. while i wasnt' expecting all that much from it i was still very shocked just how fast i got bored of it. with all the hype and money this game got i'm still incredulous as to how little soul this game has. nothing but cut and paste from other games, and not even a good cut and paste.
I used to play the PnP game, and I'd hoped that the MMO would allow you to build your powers in a similar fashion. It was Cryptics first game, so all we knew is that some of these guys were from CoH, Diablo, etc. Surely they could make something pretty cool, no? CoX 2.0 at least?
Guild Wars and LOTRO. First one because of many things like male characters look so feminine, not very impressive combat, poor animation of spells, bad story, worst kind of pvp i ever saw in any mmo, bad sound, one of the worst graphic around, simply one of the worst games i ever played. LOTRO becouse of bad pvp or better to say in this game there is no real pvp, that monster play is just retarded. Ok i am little disappointed with SWTOR because of end game, leveling and story is awesome but on the end is something missing. Well, i forgot SWG, game with maybe best crafting and best star wars feeling but combat was so bad and stupid
I have to say that for me it probably was Rift. I know many people here love that game and it is a great game overall, just not what I thought it was going to be. I was soo looking forward to the dynamic rifts and after a while I was sick and tired of seeing them show up and actively ignoring them. I was looking foward to making Rift my next MMO at that time but unfortunately it was a big let down for me.
My no1.Dark and Light ,followed by that 150million dollar debacle SWTOR which as had that much negativity it defies belief for this so called AAA game from one of the best dev teams on the planet.
Reasons not be cheerful about DnL
Well i was one of the SOG's who was bamboozled and hoodwinked by those so called devs at NP3 apart from the game been a complete mess and server wide crashes, customers charged wrongly on their subs,oh and the lawsuit that should have killed the game with some mercy and not prolonged a bunch of excuses the best being sorry no updates or server fixes as the whole of Reunion Island as been hit by a flu bug or as they put it a biblical plague. So if you did play this Alpha and pay for it,you will understand why this so called game went into Mmorpg folklore and infamy.

I take it your not a fan of arena pvp?
How anyone can be disappointed with lotro pvp is beyond me.The game was never meant to be a mmo that was big on PVP,the devs never promised anything beyond what their is.
If he look for PVP in lotro then he really was mixed up and looking in the wrong place.

but it is there or maybe not? How you would describe monster play? Well i miss that part and good pvp should be in every mmo
Tie AOC and LOTRO. Simply because the games orginally talked about (albeit Middle earth online was going to be made by perpetual if I remember correctly) were vastly different than the games we eventually got.
Both sounded awesome in early design previews, neither turned out like that.

Shadowbane, i hate the devs. they prmoised the world acted like it was in the game but it was just coded awfully.
Then WArhammer, while warhammer was not an god awful mmorpg (like shadowbane was) it was made by mythic and supposted to be the progeny of DAOC.. But it was WOW, with evented locals (good), bad background systems and engine (graphics, movement, combat, you name it), with some pvp areas tossed in and wow style pvp areas (just more of them). The daoc was all but 100% absent .. utter failure of what could have been the game, because mythic just KNEW what everybody was ALREADY PLAYING, and thought they wanted a clone of that. (Though i knew war would be this way b4 it released, so earily disapointment)
Other than that i have called failures quite squarly. Dam did i argue on these forums about ff14 , fanboi attack (Just listing its weakness could get you hammered by replies). No non wait listen here is the reality. Just like now people should be attacking GW2 on the lack of equipment value and further muted class system (instead of further divided/role type class system). Nope they are worried about someone buying gems... so dumb.
I loved the eariler concepts of tabula rasa,.... Lord British was sucessful at meanting 0 of them. Which was evident very earily.
PS- shout out to Earth above and beyond which was a FANTASTIC game at its core, with some love, investment and time the game could have been amazing. Always wanted a combat system from that game and the rest from eve ... top notch game it would be.

Aion for me was a bit of a disappointment too but not that big since I at least got close to lvl 40. But the grinding was terrible...
yes yes Only thing I really enjoyed was crafting which was also a grind and I had to grind to afford to craft more on top of the crafting grind. Beautiful world though!!
I think I would have to say Tabula Rasa. I didn't purchase the game having won a copy from this site. The burn came from the waiting as long as we had to for the game to be completed and then it just not being super fun. Granted I didn't play a long time but I thought it could have been more. Would be a perfect free-to-play title I think.
Close runner up is Asheron's Call 2. Thought that game just sucked.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Aion online simply because ncsoft doesnt know how to handle mmos like arena net does A lot of no animation hackers, glide hacks, gold buyers and so on thats why it went free to play. Even tho aoc would be on top of the list at least its making progress on updates, aion just keeps Sinking.

Title of thread and the question asked is "What MMO was the biggest disappointment for you?" GW1 is not an MMO.
My theme song.
Warhammer Online. was expecting EVE in Old World. got crippled WoW.
i would have to go with 1) Warhammer, 2) SWTOR.

1) SWTOR
2) LOTRO, but only everything after Shadows of Angmar. LOTRO was a lot of fun before the expansions and complete overhaul
3) DCUO

Lineage 2 ...terrible terrible ugly grindfest.....
And then guildwars......Installed it....played it for a week, then realised it is just a polished singleplayer game...
Ow and Age of Conan....even bought a new PC for it...Grrrrrrrrrrr
