I was pretty excited for Guild Wars 2, until recently. All the videos they're pumping out looks like generic MMO combat with some pretty animations and different camera angles. Just tab targetting combat yet again, but with flashy lights.
In fact, all of this video is just eye candy, and you guys are gobbling it up. They talk big, but so does every MMO thats in development. I fear this is going to be like many of the others. They pump up the hype wagon and show off cinematic trailers and reel the suckers in.
"No grinding!" Uhuh
"The world is all about you!" Sounds like instancing to me. That's not an MMO.
I think some will be temporary and some won't, at least until somebody comes along and fixes it. If some creatures come along and destroy a bridge, it will stay destroyed until some players fix the bridge.
Most of the things they mentioned in video like one players action effecting everything around him/her, if you rescuse a village it stays rescused etc etc are only possible in instances. I have no idea how they can pull this off without instances.
They already said it, it's a cyclical but very complex chain of events, not instanced.
So things won't stay changed forever right? it will be temporary effect?
Yes, it will be temp-effect... O.o but that effect grant a for feeling achivement for sometime.
yeah I am sure it will be a long temp effect
I question how long it could really be. New people are leveling up and joining the game everyday.
You know all the whiners are going to come out and say well why can't I do exactly what everyone else has don e? Or why do I have to sit here and wait for this event to restart and such?
"The world is all about you!" Sounds like instancing to me. That's not an MMO.
Your wrong, only the personal story is instanced...think of it like WoW instances or raids, learn more about the game before you assume its not an mmo....have you even read one interview?
Actually, the village is bound to be attacked again - as it would be in reality - but the next time it's attacked it may be bandits instead of centaurs. Even if it is Centaurs, no where is it said that the same baddies couldn't attack again. All the content is being designed to keep you immersed, not "Centaurs every 2 hours". If a bridge is blown apart, you can wait by and protect the repairers from threats in the form of harassment and what not. Every event is a chain reaction, it gives the feeling of "Man I have to log off, I hope these guys/girls will be able to hold off the marauding brigands that were attacking those workers.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan

Well spoken. Gameplay is the key as always.
But the artwork is amazing/incredible/stupendous, nonetheless, and the sense of scale coming from the video really does put you in a frame of mind for adventure.
I like the environments almost as much as the chars.

Depends on what you mean by "temporary", there won't be a reset timer in which things magically return to how they were before.
If you saved a village from a centaur attack then they will eventually attack again, but they can get to the point of capturing the village and making it into a centaur outpost if there's no players to help defense, then someone will have to help recapturing the village. Reminds me of Tabula Rasa and the outpost controls, the Bane would keep sending waves of attackers and vice-versa when the ATS (think that was the name of the human faction) was the one attacking.
It gets pretty complex if there are events that need others as conditions, especially multiple around the same place, including random ones caused by the weather. Also there are others triggered by exploring such as finding a magical relic that triggers an event hidden in a sunken temple.
From the way they described it it can stay like that for a good while, enough for one to level up an alt character in a very different environment conditions than the main one.

Your spewing uneducated misinformation, a large percent of the trailer was actually gameplay, that is characters using real skills that will be available upon release.

WOW, just wow. My jaw fell on the table. If they can deliver all that then I'm sold. Ready to throw my money at AN. OH WAIT IT'S FREE TO PLAY Well I throw my money at them anyway, just to support them.
well this is just a trailer! even F2P browser games like Ikariam and Travian looks fun and exciting in a trailer lol! Tthat dragon in the end prob wont come flyin towards the party from high above, land, growl and squirt lightning sparks from its mouth as u approach.. It will probably stand in a corner blinking back and forth a coupple of times due to lag and then suddenly dissepear cause of a bug lol..
The bridge falling down might happen, then next second your screen will blink and the bridge will be back up again.. its not like theres gonna pop up lil gnomes from the ground starting to rebuild it.
I have to admit. Earlier videos restricted the showing of environments and characters to the point that I was worried that they weren't even close to completion. This puts those fears to rest.
I am officially buying this game, regardless of the fact that my computer can barely run GW1.
looks cool, but I haven't really read up on this game at all.
The original guild wars was more like diablo where you go into zones by yourself or with a party, there was no consistent world other than towns and such. Is that changed in guild wars 2? i always liked the pvp in guild wars 1 but other than that it wasn't that great.

As stated before, almost all of this video is actual gameplay.
And concerning the last paragraph, go read the blog on the event system....
Can you guys learn a little more about the game before you post stuff thats 100% based upon your assumption?
The world is fully persistent, only your personal story will be instanced, everything else, such as the event system and normal quests will be open world. And since you mentioned pvp, there will be no world pvp, all forms of pvp will take place in the mists, which is an instanced large WvW area
MMMkkkaaaay, really pure epicness. Was not very interested before, but now I'm super hyped. This just shines... oh yea. I hope this stays with no monthly subscription fee.
That video was amazing I love how they managed to keep the GW1 artstyle very recognisable while at the same time improving it greatly! I loved GW for its looks and the music from Jeremy Soule. Its awesome that they keep the same combination
The latest Anet blog 'Walking the Walk' tells us what we see in this video will be playable at gamescom the weekend after next
This is gameplay footage, the world we see is what we will be able to explore, by the end of gamescom we will know for sure how much of this is hype and how much is reality, Anet would not be that stupid as to promise and not deliver, finally we will know for sure.

If GW2 does not cause Blizzard's subscribers to decline, I don't know what will...hehehe.

This is the beginning of the end for the rest of the MMO universe. They will all bow to GW2.

I'm probably one of those people who just get wet.
